You packed all the important information in just 5 minutes, even managed to add some cool tangent facts, thank you so much. Videos line these really help
In my opinion, I prefer the sound of the 2020. It just sounds more clear and less muddy to me. Everyone hears differently I suppose but it just has that right tone I prefer.
Those cinematic, high quality shots made me watch the whole video... and I don't even need a mic. You, sir, keep up the great work and will get the audience you deserve!
Was looking for a better microphone than my unbranded amazon one haha and stumbled across the AT2020 in my search. While searching how it worked and what I needed to set it up, I came across this video and now discovered the AT2040... Safe to say I think the 2040 would be a much better match for what im looking for and you also provided valuable information for me about it! Amazing video
AT2040 is a great sounding multi-tasking microphone, I consider buying this after watching several reviews. Thanks Mills for this review, it has helped me on my decision...New subscriber here.
I've never seen a windscreen used as a pop filter. They definitely have different materials for different purposes so I'm not sure how much it changed each microphone sonically. This video was super helpful though! The AT2040's we have tend to have a lot of noise bleed in our podcast, so maybe we'll try the 2020
Agreed. A windscreen does not function as a pop filter unless the air puffs are super light. It made no audible difference in this demonstration. It popped anyway. If you have noise bleed, you may wish to change out to some dynamic mics.
Yeah 2020 will be worse for you if you are having noise bleed into the mics currently using 2040s. Perhaps some room treatment will help, or positioning your talent differently or something. Dynamic mics will absolutely be better at an open room layout podcast type situation. Look at any of the ones here on RUclips. The Shure SM7B is a heavy hitting hero for a reason. You could try the cheaper Shure SM57, with the extra Shure A2WS locking windscreen, to help with rejection.
the at2040 was released about 2 months after i had purchased the at 2020 and i also happened to be looking for a dynamic mic but was on a budget haha and didnt feel like doing much research, will probably be picking up the at2040 soon as it will better suit my needs lol
Literally so surprised on how you don't have many subscribers. This review was great!! Maybe next time test out the mic with a keyboard sound test to see how much the mics pick it up since most people use cool mics for other than music n stuff (like me) but yes thank you! Just subscribed, keep it up!! I'll be referring you to some people who want good reviews :)
I want to record my written poetry professionally. Suggest me a good audio interface and microphone. But my room is not sound proof. The sound from outside comes inside our room. My total budget is $350. Many people told me to take a dynamic mic. Can I mix it after recording with dynamic mic? Like in condenser mic.
Yes. The black one is the MOTU M2. I also recommend this one. It's cheaper than the 276 and is better in many ways. If you don't need the built in 1176 compressor of the 276, I say go for the M2.
I have an at2020, have done for ages now but i need to get a mic arm, struggling to understand which ones to avoid, there seem to be so many around but i just want one that can clamp down and be able to pull towards me and away from me easily when i'm recording videos.
I just grabbed a cheap one on Amazon ($30-$50 range) and it has worked great for the past 2 years. The brand is Puroma if that helps. I will say that if I hit the desk pretty hard, noise travels up through the arm into the mic. I bet that happens with any arm, but I also haven't tried really expensive ones.
@@llllMills hi, thanks for the reply, it's mostly just putting my drink down on the table or something that bangs the mic but it would be much easier to have it right in front of me, i'll take a look at that mic arm and see how it looks, thanks.
The 2040 is such a huge disappointment tbh, its so mid heavy that its almost telephonic sounding, the 2020 is however a condenser microphone which kinda lacks in the low end a bit but is still very very acceptable when compared to the 2040, in the clarity section 2020 does better too, 2040 is again a disappointment
I disagree. The 2040 sounds great for $99. It all depends on the sound being put into it. I have a deep bassy late night DJ voice so the 2040 fits me perfectly.

are we just going to skip over just how freaking cool that headset for a mic trick was what the freaking heck dude
😉

Main purpose of my mic is for zoom calls and i tried several condenser microphones but it is too sensitive. So i got the 2040 and i am happy with it.
Excellent demonstration of functioning of these devices and the other products needed to maximize their use.

I use two 2020's for years now for recording and live. The most versatile mic in my collection. It's just amazing.

Dude, thank you for extremely clear, concise content. Just what I needed.
Really a great video, Mills! I have a condenser now and get way too much background sound. Dynamic it will be. Subbed

Hey thanks I appreciate it! And I made all the music 😉
Thank you! This video is great! I enjoyed that it was short and concise, by emphasizing on the main differences.
Just finished the video, this is the opposite of suck! Wish more youtubers were like you. Cheers!

Any audio interface in the $150-$200 range will do fine. Go for a dynamic microphone instead of a condenser. The Audio technica is $99.

Great vid friend. What audio interface are you using there by the way?
Thanks! This is the UA Volt 276. I have a video on that one too 😉
@@llllMills Is that different to the all black one you have in the video or is it better? I will check that vid out in a second. Thanks in advance.

Which one is best suited for picking up a double bass?
damn the headphone trick got me !! so cool
Thank you very much ! Thanks to you I could finally stream with a good microphone .
Headphone hack was great!
Great Video! I think i'll go for the AT2020 for my first xlr mic :D keep it up
Sweet and thanks!
very informative! Holy cow i learned so much.
What would be a correct audio interface for the AT2040?
I have a video about the UA Volt 276. I highly recommend it!
Love the content.
🙏
Support. Review SM7B vs RE20 next!
Alright then! Look for it in the new year
What is the name of the audio interface you used in this video?
This is the MOTU M2. It's a great, affordable interface.
THANKS FOR SHARING

Great video
Thanks!
What are the pop filters called, i want to be sure before i order if it fits xD
I picked up just a regular pop filter specific to the 2020. They're all pretty generic.
I pick up AT2040. It sounds fuller, not budier. I do not like the driness of AT2020.
thanks for this
