- Stars: Natalie Moorhead, Russell Hopton, J. Farrell MacDonald
Director: Fred C. Newmeyer
In this murder mystery, a sexy blonde movie star is found dead in her car after shooting the last scene in her film, "Falling Star." The suspects are numerous due to her free and easy lifestyle and messy romantic affairs: her drunken actor husband, her screenwriter boyfriend, her first husband, and the director's jealous wife!
A fine example of an old 1930s movie having much of the quality of a stage play filmed close up. Lotsa script dialogue, no special F/X, good story plot.
Great movie, thank you!
This film could be re-made as a mini-series.
I'll be so very, very careful Mrs Sibley. Love it!
A very good movie thanks for the post
Love these old movies - and yes! #loveoldmovies , the art deco! The only thing w/ this picture is the cops are irritating and about as good as the original cops assigned to JonBenet.
It's a Hollywood tradition to treat the police as inherently dull and inefficient. But they still call the police when they need them.
This film is rich in Art Deco designer interiors and fixtures. Some of the furniture and sculpture shown in this flick would be worth tens of thousands today!
You're right. I have a house full of antique furniture, and I'd love to get in there with a moving van and raid that movie set.
I thought the set were especially poorly done. Just watch the doors rattle when they are opened or closed.
A great film- love the decor and the ladies fashions 🙏🏻🙂
Were all reporters really that brave and smart back then? They are always smarter than the cops in these old movies.
Yes. This was before journalism school, which turned them bias and stupid.
47:20 Haven't seen the whole movie yet but thought I would take a break here to write this comment.
So, the guy calls on the phone and says he knows who the murder is and fears for his life but doesn't say over the phone who the murder is and makes the cops drive all the way over to his place so he can tell them there instead of just telling them over the phone.
I am going to assume that by the time the cops get there, he'll have a knife in his back.
Let's get back to the movie and see if I am right.
48:24 Okay, I was wrong. It wasn't a knife in the back. He got shot in the heart.
This happens so many times.I can't tell you over the phone, meet me tonight at the wharf. Why can't it be in a public place at six pm?
@@keithharvey7230 Yea, that's so funny.
I can't take five seconds to tell you right now over the phone.... So meet me in this dark alley in a rough neighborhood at midnight behind the dumpster in the dark corner of the alley.... and then I'll tell you what I could just as easily and much more safely tell you right now over the phone.
Hooked on the 30’s big time
It seriously feels like Deja Voo doo. I really resonate with that whole vibe. Always have !
Amen to that. A far better time to live than in 2020.
SPOILER...When the telegram boy found the body in the car, I was reminded of Thelma Todd.
Ditto
Predictive programming.
...and Todd just completed a film she was working on.
Yup I agree! So neat though!
As soon as I read the synopsis I thought of Thelma Todd. But she died in 1935.
So glad you're back!
Wow. Husband Andre is making himself look like a complete wuss. He's so overcome with jealousy that he has no control over himself? And he shoots at his wife several times, clearly a case of attempted murder, and no one calls the cops? Lol
Saw this on Tcm
42:35 Good night?
Are you kidding me?
There is still an unguarded dead body just outside the door. Are going to just leave it there all night?
She was only 31, but looks much older
48:57 Why did he walk in already looking at the floor?
Great, except for the Perry Mason style dénouement.
I just let the movie roll while I read the comments.
This reminds me of the actress that died in her car Thelma Todd. She was living a wild life. They still don't know what caused Thelma's death and its 2020
My only objection is that the director, the writer, and the reporter all look so much alike, it’s hard to tell them apart. At least the actor husband has a mustache.
I know, I am having the same problem as I am watching this and trying to keep the characters straight as far as who is who.
I thought the same thing Kate.
Do like I do. I watch these old movies so often that I feel like I know the entire cast and production crew.
@@leelarson107 Me too!
This can happen when you get three blonde actresses in a movie, similar scenarios.
Earmark to watch later esp for art deco interior design.
Thanks. I'll check it out.
A Excellent Video.... Highly Recommended.. Thank You Very Much For Sharing..
48:39 I wonder what that street would look today if you were to drive down it?
If it still even exist.
I don't know who was in this one, there was no list of characters. A couple of the actors were not very good, but most were excellent. Again, I really enjoyed it and thank you.
Natalie Moorhead! Very busy in the late 20s early 30s. One of the earliest platinum blonde femme fatales
I'm surprised that the blond star of this movie ever got into films. She's so unattractive and the fake accent she puts on is most irritating. I thought she might have been a man. To each his own though. She was married quite a few times so maybe her personality made up for her looks. I found one photo of her with her natural dark hair and it was a great improvement.
I live in CHICAGO, IL.
Thank You 😊
These are celluloid Time Machines.
Good movie!!!
10:34 That gun is still in the room. I wonder if it'll show up later as a "planted" murder weapon?
Yeah! a couple continuity problems, but a good film
@@Magnetron33 I agree.
And it just HAD to be a .32 automatic. Whassamatter, don't they know what a good old .38 revolver is for?
What happened to the opening credits?
thumbs down from me , for unending noisy static
Let's just say, in 1932, I would have been ticked off that I paid a nickel to see this....
Your nickel is in the mail.
@@leelarson107 A comment I wrote two years ago, and now you respond!
Would make a lot more sense if lead actress wasn't so hideous. Why couldn't they find someone pretty for the part?
@cadenst.claire6211
Beauty is in the eye they say...
I personally never saw Julia Roberts as drop dead gorgeous as hailed to be/have been.
Nice L.A. setting instead of NYC.A Decent cheapie. 👌
No credits...
