Glee has real struggles holding up in retrospect, but Sue was probably the reason I took so long to give up on the show. Incredible lines and an amazing performance by Jane. She was really out of most of her peers’ league on that show.
I agree. Not only is she well written but the actress ate the hell out of that role. Such an amazing performance. She’s so funny. Which is why I hate season 3, 4 and 5 the most because they feature her less 😭
I love how in the first clip she still says something Sue-y. She doesn't just become a sweet uwu bean out of nowhere for the plot, she is compassionate while still being the same Sue we know & love. Props to the writers for keeping her in character for such an emotional moment.
At the beginning of the series I thought she was a straight up terrible person, but then you see her relationship with her mom and sister and see her back story and sympathize with her. She’s still evil and terrible sometimes, but she’s still one of the greatest characters ever made.
horrible.. she hated what sue was and what she had become. it was so sad when sue married herself and her mother made fun of her the whole time for it. let the girl marry herself goddamn who are you to judge lol!@@redrasegarden
Honestly, that's exactly what I thought at first. She did so much for those kids than principal "my hands are tied" figgins. Tbh, if she was a real person, I would def love to have her as a mentor/teacher/principal.
sue's relationship and scenes with her sister always make me tear up. you don't see a lot of down syndrome representation in shows and movies and it's incredibly endearing to see one of the most notoriously hard-ass characters be the one to have such a close bond with someone with the condition. and the way she takes becky under her wing and protects her is so underrated
As a mom to a daughter with Down Syndrome, I truly loved how Glee represented them. I also love that Sue learned a lesson about how tough her sister must have had it when she saw Becky mistreated. Sue was one of my favorite characters due to the depth and layers of her personality.
@@lolamagenta yep. i love that they made the characters funny but not the butt of the joke. they were treated the same as everyone else. other show writers should study the way becky and jean were written and take note of it.
The time when Sue knows about Karofsky death threats to Kurt and how he does everything to protect him, then Kurt tells her that he always feels attacked by her hurtfull nicknames so Sue tells him he could choose his nickname, after that you always listen to Sue call him "Porcelaine" wich actually is a really cute nickname
It's not really a "kind" speech, but I really like in 2x03 (Grilled Cheesus) when Sue speaks to Emma about religion, and you can see how her sister's disability and her upbringing has really shaped her character. I like how everyone is focused on short-term relief of Kurt's pain, but Sue really acknowledges the situation, and tells them to open their eyes and see what's going on, and what could possibly happen. Sue has a lot of spot on moments, and isn't just the constant antagonist, but rather a really well written character with depth. She's my top two, between her and Quinn
sue and kurt's relationship was always quite sweet, since they were both realists but not cynical. not in terms of religion, but they saw the world around them and took practical steps to make it better. she wasn't the nicest about it, but particularly in that episode she understood what he was going through and what he needed which certainly wasn't everyone promising prayers to a god he didn't believe in and making him feel bad for not believing in it. sue has a respect for people with real problems, like when she put her foot down against mr shue twerking with kids in favour of giving a trans student a suitable bathroom
@@mattybrunolucaszeneresalas9072 sue said that if Mr Schue stopped twerking she would allow Unique to have access to her own bathroom (if I remember correctly)
I still can't forget about the scene where she gave Marley Rose and her mom a Christmas tree and 800 dollars. When Marley's mom told Marley that they couldn't get a Christmas tree or presents because they weren't making enough money, Marley felt horrible and apologized when she didn't have to. 🥺 But as her mom asked Marley to sing for her, and Marley did, Sue spied on them for a bit (in a good way) and decided to take matters into her own hands. So she and her other favorite student, Becky got them a real Christmas tree and 800 dollars as a gift, and Marley and her mom couldn't believe their eyes, and wished each other a Merry Christmas. This was a much better scene than the scene where Mr. Schuester was spying on Finn while he was singing in the shower, and then he blackmailed Finn to join the Glee club.
When the Kurt situation happened while she was the principal, seeing her in a completely worried state for him made me almost cry just seeing her in such a serious expression
When the gun fired and we heard students screaming and running in the corridor, I realized that that wouldn't have happened when I was at school. Everyone would have been like "what was that?" "it stopped. Okay, back to what we were doing"
my favorite line from that episode will forever be "americas newest man" all of my trans friends are out so im waiting and hoping someone will come out so i can use that on them
I''ve always preferred her over Rachel and mr Shue. if you forget that she wanted to throw Britney in a canon ball, she did way nicer things than they did. like that day when she showed sympathy for Artie (can't remember what exactly) or when spoke to Kurt's father etc meanwhile Rachel was throwing tantrums wondering why she isn't the center of attention and Shue giving pep talks. I mean look at him, he's the one who should be given pep talks: he never questioned why Terry never showed her belly even at home, he threw himself straight at Emma while still in love with Terry, he then cheated on Emma with Shelby, and had the nerves to be jealous or carl ... not to mention that his only friends are teenagers with whom he sang songs with suggestive and questionable lyrics and a creepy drug dealer-stalker in his sixties (as of season 3). if you read this, you can guess that I like everyone in the show, but not Rachel and the teacher.
Sue strikes me as a kind not nice type of person. She speaks abrasively but she's still a very capable teacher who combines empathy and professionalism
I loved her the first time she showed emotion...when the kids sang "To Sir With Love"....she'd won the bet...but she kept Glee alive for another year because she realized that it meant something to them. And I loved the Christmas show where she showed appreciation for them coming to help at the shelter and how she reacted to the funeral they set up for her sister.
Also that time Beiste had left Cooter cause he hit him, and Sue immediately ran over to him and hugged him while will sat there confused (used he/him for the character, but this was before he came out as trans)
Sue is a villain but she also has her principles. They might be weird and not always clear but she has them and that's what shines through in these scenes. Plus, her love for her sister and Becky, as well as the soft spot she had for Kurt, is so precious to watch
Sue was a much better principal than Figgens, and you'll never convince me otherwise. He did like nothing to help anyone, but the moment Sue took over she immediately helped take care of Kurt's bullying problem.
who the hell is cutting onions... when she reads to her sister (im not crying what so ever!!) i remember the funeral scene... omg its so heartbreaking, for her to loose someone so special to her
Something I’ve come to realize is pretty much ever character on the show has said problematic things and had done bad things and they’re a little crazy so you kinda have to take the good with the bad for everyone when watching it
Some other GREAT sue moments are with the Christmas Tree for Marley and her mom is season 4/5 with the money and also in season 1 when she votes for the New Directions to win over VA at Regionals, and THEN pushes Figgins to give the glee kids another year. She is so remarkably underrated when it come to her kind gestures and will always be my favorite (and still the most iconic) character
Nobody was hit or miss more than Sue. You have moments she was genuinely a great person. Like when she believed Kurt and expelled Karofsky, her relationship with Becky, her support of Beiste when she confessed she was going through gender reassignment surgery. Then you had moments she was a horrible person. Like how she treated Unique
Sue is the unsung hero of the show. She helped Santana and her abuela mend their relationship She became a second mom to Becky She pushed Will and New Directions to work hard and achieve their goals. and her support for Coach Beiste when he was suffering from gender dysphoria was so wholesome. We love you Sue!
When she sung the song “sing” with the glee kids, and when she voted for the glee kids to win sectionals then when they lost she blackmailed fig to give them another year, they should have been on this list, other than that it’s a great video good job 🙂

1:46 As bad as that was for Becky to do, I think this is in a way on her parents. Think about it. Why didn't she talk to them instead of Sue about her problems? I know. I know. We only saw one scene of Becky's Mom but she and her husband should be held accountable for Becky taking the gun. I'm sure they are great parents and I'm sure it's hard raising a child who everyone laughs at and doesn't characterize the world's definition of 'normal' but they should still be more careful with a special-needs child.
