What a great video! I searched for video of the Turtles drummer playing this song, couldn't find any. You really nailed it, especially the double-time drum rolls leading out of the chorus part (ba-ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba...)...amazing! Great job Clive!
Let's give props to the Turtles drummer who created and played that drum part on the original recording -- the great JOHN BARBATA -- and props to Clive for showing us how it was done, great drummer Clive Jenner is!
Brilliant. Always thought this track was top drumming. Great to see and hear you play it Clive. Used to wonder what was happening in the original when it got to the pressed roll so good to actually see it here.
LUV IT! As a Jazz Drummer, most styles, I don't usually think that much of Pop Rock Drumming, but in your case, I like your Drumming. Your fun to watch.
WOW I never thought that this song had as much drumming work involved until I watched this, It's excellent work, I was surprised to see how many fills there are in it as well
Wow! Your performance of the Johnny Barbata original is spot-on. I'm not a drummer, and I always wondered what he was doing on the bridge. Great visual angle on the drum set; great sound! I have always been a sucker for the 1960s "1-2-3-4 snare" style; and that roll coming out of the bridge and into the last verse is epic!
First of all this has been my favorite Turtles song for 40 years and I've always been impressed with the drumming. But when I came across this,,,WOW,, you are truly amazing! My favorite song and the Best drumming,,,I must have watched it 20 times already,,, at least once a week. Thanks
Hello Clive: You nail this classic tune and I just love it. I love the fact you gave absolutely the original sounds of drumming to the song. It really reminds me how wonderful and exciting it was when I first heard it in the mid 60s. Thank you and I hope you will more of these classic. Bravo and Encore ! Sunny Fung
Thank you Sunny. Its a great song with a great vibe like a lot of those tunes then.Thats the great thing with having the TD30 drums you get more or less get any drum sound you want.Check out some of the other tracks of the month.Clive
Hi Clive! I just happened to stumble on your video. "She'd Rather Be With Me" is absolutely one of my favorite songs, ever. Unfortunately, Howard, Mark and the guys cannot play this song anywhere near as good as what they did back in the 60's. But! This version that you just performed, with you on drums is better than the original studio version that we used to listen to when we were kids. What's funny is, you had that cowbell handy right there because that was always a very big part of that song. That was fantastic! I really enjoyed that! Thank you, Clive!
That was AWESOME! You NAILED IT! Johny Barbata originally played drums on this track and most of the Turtles hit records. He wrote a book about all the bands he played with titled THE LEGENDARY LIFE OF A ROCK STAR DRUMMER.
The roll in the bridge part gets me every time. Love it.
I thought it was just me. This song has my favourite drumming of all time. Thanks for showing us how it's done, Clive.
It's all great but 1:30 to 1:45 sends shivers down the spine
1:42 I just HAD to see a clip of someone doing this to even believe it was possible, just amazing!

Barbata
He was a great drummer RIP Mr Barbata
Johny Barbata version was much better, he knew how to hold the left hand stick correctly.
