When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival.

Zack pitched this movie to Lucas Films, they turned it down. Fast forward, Netflix was very interested since one of the executives there worked with Zack before. Zack originally planned for 1 long movie, Netflix told him to make it 2 movies. Rumor is that there could be a 3 part to Rebel Moon. IMO, likely depends on the success of the first 2. These 2 movies MIGHT see a limited theatrical release similar to Army of the Dead. There's a PG-13 version of Rebel Moon Part 1 and 2 (I assume this could be a theatrical version). The R-rated version will be 30 mins longer for each movie (I assume this will be the Netflix release).
Video game based on these 2 movies is also on the way.
This can definitely go to theater
From what the working rumor is, is that this is planned to have a limited theater run

People mostly forget he made the "dawn of the dead" remake in 2004 too .. that was a freaking great zombie movie too. And James Gunn also worked on that movie as a writer.

Good reaction Creative! I see people talking about this was pitched as a star wars film and some accusing zack of ripping off star wars. A little known fact is that george lucas himself pitched to universal studios his idea for a flash gordon film which they held the rights to. They said no. So he ended up creating Star Wars with elements from flash gordon in it like the princess, an evil emperor, a beast man and laser swords and of course the famous opening crawl we see in the start to most star wars films. He also took things from dune and other sources while developing it too. There's no difference to what zack has done here for rebel moon so the ripping off idea accusation is stupid.
