Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor - What happens if you don't have a Nemesis?

- Once again I manage to twist the game in unexpected ways!
In this video I show you what happens if you do not have a Nemesis, specifically during the story mission "Lord of Mordor" in which you face your biggest rival.
What you see in this video took over a month to pull off. The complexity of moving bodyguards from one Warchief to another and the careful movements to avoid all Captains possible proved to be quite challenging.
I must admit, I was really impressed when I got to the end of this journey.

I know that it's just a glitch, but Ratbag dying without slow-motion kinda makes sense because he's basically worthless x)
I wish we could've kept rat bag as a war chief that acts as a dominated warchief just without blue eyes and if they were feeling generous a way to order him to do shit without putting your hand on his head and doing that whole thing.
yeah, Ratbag is pretty much the first uruk who willingly worked on Talion's side, when shadow of war will come out, Ratbag won't be unique anymore because hundreds of uruks will willingly work for you 😂
They'd probably find a way to stil make him unique, maybe a he'll just have to be classic
'Willingly' in air quotes.
Amnesix how dare you sir!
Id love it if ratbag had every possible weakness and no strengths.
Pretty Pimp in normal playtrough he HAS all weaknesses and is basically worthless :D
Olaf TheSnowman no he doesn't in the story he's afraid of 3 things (i forgot what they were and that's not all the fears) but I do like how he had no strengths
Wow you're quick at replying xD
Tom Gaywood I smell. Mod
Check out the new shadow of Mordor series i'm making. I know it's a bit mediocre, but i think you'll like it. If not tell me what i can do better.
The hammer must've only fucked his voice box up lol
Way to make the Tower scrape the absolute bottom of the barrel for a captain to lead his army :P
David Axelord na bro ye nans the bottom of the barrel
Jk
Nick Compton plaid
Walht hi no jack a shower in a pit ur a nazi
Nick Compton ooo
I'd like a Ratbag cameo in SoM 2.
dude he died
Jonix cameo dumbass.
Approved, especially if it would be a very sneaky reference to this very video as well.
he was killed by the hammer the first main boss in the shadow of mordor
5:45
He was probably a placeholder during testing. Note that Ratbag wasn't originally in the game as anything other than another random nemesis. It wasn't until his positive reception from the fans that he was written into the story as a legitimate character in the Shadow of Mordor continuity. That was when his voice actor was changed as well.
I never really had a nemesis. I just had to keep killing this one guy over and over again and he happened to be my nemesis even though he was really easy to kill 😂
That was a major problem with the first one. If you couldn't have a memorable nemesis it just kinda fell flat. So glad they are adding a difficulty level.
D'shaun Wilson The game tends to pick whoever you run into the most, with slight- but not complete- preference as to who kills you more if appearances are close enough.
In my case it was this guy who just refused to die... But he seemed to get a new prosthetic every time we fought.
First it was a metal arm... And eyepatch (sometimes he appeared in the middle of a hoard of regular enemies, completely disguised until I directly attack him)...
By this mission he had a bag head, fork arm, peg leg, a few metal pieces- he was basically a cyborg. Albeit a really puny one.
considering I came across a guy named "Zog Hot Tongs" even more often, and he usually surrvived, I was suprised it wasn't him.
Yeah, I totally feel that. I started playing the game and got killed by Grisha, Sword Master. I thought I ran into him the most, but what ended up happening was I just fought this lame Blade Sharpener dude that died with a couple of executions. Such a lame final boss type guy.
My nemesis was really lackluster. His name was Krimp the Bitter. I died to him a few times because he'd show up to battles I didn't expect him to be at and kill me since he was a ranged uruk. Since he was ranged, fighting him alone during this mission was really easy. What was interesting though and I thought the game had taken this into account but it might just be one of the random additions when they come back is that he had a bag over his head. I thought it was because the last time I had defeated him I exploded a fire near him and that must mean his face was singed.
Been years and I still remember mine. Rûg the Judge. With his poisoned crossbow, smugness, and invulnerability to fucking everything. I was so happy to finally behead him in the final mission.
I actually faced a ally who was my nemesis and died, because of that he came back in the end to lead the fight, it was epic and sad because he was the first I branded and helped me a lot during the game and when he came back it was like a seen from a tv show, but it also kinda poetic, he was a nobody who killed me then became a level 5 captain and had abilities that I couldn't counter, he killed me 5 separate occasions and even killed my war chief, and then when I branded him he helped me with Uruks that had massive groups in epic fights but in one fight he lunged at a chief who downed me and when I got up he was thrown and fell into the ocean, and at the end we fought to see who was better, great game :3
this would make a great anime
Do you mean on Shadow of War? There's no betrayal mechanic in Shadow of Mordor.
@@Cobra_125 In shadow of mordor when a branded uruk dies, he indeed can appear at the Nemesis encounter before the Tower Fight.
I still remember my first nemesis fondly, his first name was Dush but I don't recall his title. I do know he was immune to ranged and stealth and had hate of pain. He killed me about 5 times before I finally beat him but he kept coming back and engaging me all around Udun and each time the winner was anyone's guess. After a while I stopped seeing him and was happy but also sad at the same time.
When I started Lord of Mordor and saw his glued on head I gave a smile big enough to make the Joker jealous. His speech showed Talion off as a danger but still carried a bit of respect for his rival, I think Talion responded to him well. Through the whole fight I completely forgot about Sauron and the Black Hand, this was the true final battle. I still remember it as the fiercest fight I've had in my countless playthroughs, and it is one I shall never forget.
I had this awesome nemesis throughout my whole game called Uggu Heart Eater, id killed him 5 times but he kept returning, with an awesome new scar or prosthetic each time, but come this mission the game throws a totally random Uruk I have literally never met or identified at me and called him my nemesis and the ending fell totally flat because of it, I loved the nemesis concept I just hope they perfect it in shadow of war
this was genuinely surprising, who would have thought that the great war chief ratbag who once sided with you would become your final boss.
I got Ratbag without meaning to my first playthrough! I didn't realize this was abnormal.
The amount of work that must've gone into this is impressive.
Thank you for not making a 20 minute pointless video with an obnoxious commentary
Wait wait wait. You mean you're supposed to have a nemesis at the end??? Every play through I've done I've never fought my nemesis
A lot of people are saying this. Now I'm curious. What platform are you playing on?
Uruk's Hollow I play in PS4
Uh. I suspected people saying this might be playing in old-gen... Now I have no idea.
Uruk's Hollow No idea
James Ellisor So you got Ratbag lmao?
i can tell you put alot of effort into these videos so i decided to sub
I was disappointed when ratbag died. I wanted to brand him because he was helpful
I beat the whole game without having a 'nemesis'. I either killed the captain or ran away before I would get molested by the entire Uruk horde. The closest thing to a nemesis I had was some crossbow guy that knocked me off an edge, and he didn't even get promoted for it.
Holy fuck dude thanks for going through the trouble to show us this. I don't think people appreciate how complicated it is to pull this off. I'm pretty fascinated by the results. A weird glitchy Ratbag after he was killed earlier in the game? The developers probably thought "hey what if someone doesn't have a nemesis?"
"Eh just use Ratbag"
1:31 that music-timing was perfect! ❤️
I remember my first nemesis, damned impossible to kill.
Immunity to range
The only that makes them sense you so it's almost impossible to sneak up on him, and that was his only weakness...
Immunity to finishers
And the captain I interrogated about him, he had a fear of!
At first I could sometimes kill him, but as he killed me (or was resurrected) it became a nightmare. It got to the point where I didn't feel safe if I wasn't riding a graug.
Very interesting, glad to see they had something in mind for anyone who wanted to try and have no nemesis
the look of betrayal in talions eyes
omg i did not expect that, worth an entire playthrough thanks
That's fucking great. Also, this video was great, really well put together, answered any other questions I might have had without boring me or feeling like filler to get more view time. Nice job.
Man I loved playing through this. Wish I had the time to do it all again but with Horizon eating up most of my game time at the moment and Mass Effect just round the corner, as well as the sequel coming in August, the time just isn't there. Ah well, good memories!
Just bought this on psn store for 4 bucks. Not as in depth story as I thought it would be but I like it. Def want to pick up shadow of war!
Awesome video, bit lengthy but fascinating to see (and saves me time doing it!).
Can you do a video on what happens if you use this save and use the Nemesis Forge before going into Shadow Of War?
I think I had a nemesis, but then I branded him, and now he is better then all my Warcheifs
I mean all the "glitches" with him make sense, you put him in that position.
I technically didn't have a nemesis at that point in the game because the only contenders I had were either branded or decapitated, so the game basically had an aneurysm or something and instead of giving me a random captain who was not yet dead/branded or something like that, I got a most unexpected threat:
There was once an uruk captain archer that gave me quite a lot of trouble, in quite the bullcrap way as well. He would show up while I was right in the thick of battle with an entirely unrelated warchief or captain and one shot me because he had a machine gun for a crossbow, and then instead of trying to kill me he would just insult me and walk off to disappear into the nether realm when I got my second wind. It was annoying because I knew I could slaughter him but it was just impossible as he would only appear when I was in the middle of something and I couldn't properly hunt him down. One time I managed to kill him when he appeared instead of getting randomly one shot, but I didn't decapitate him and so he just appeared with a plate over his skull, killing me again. I managed to kill him again when he got caught up in a hunt or something along those lines, a power struggle of some sort anyways, and that time I had decapitated him and it was decidedly gratifying as at that point he was the only uruk to best me time and time again and only through dropping in unexpectedly with a gatlingbow.
For a time I thought he was permanently dead, but during this mission he came back to life one final time with the most damage I've ever seen any one uruk captain have at once (some kind of bag roped around his face with his lips missing, metal plate over his skull and scarred to hell and back, etc. etc.)
Apparently even he was sick of being brought back to life over and over and over again because when I finally killed him (for some reason his shots were extremely slow and nowhere near as damaging in comparison to his original bolts, so it was actually pretty easy compared to literally every other time I fought him) he relished the fact I was about to butcher him. Something along the lines of "Yes! Now, give me a captain's death!"
When I did this mission, one of my warchiefs duplicated. One fought alongside me. The other was my nemesis.
This happened to me in SoW. A rebellion began during a rescue mission and There was a friendly "Gund The Tainted" and an evil clone 😂
I had to have had one of the best nemesis fights. An Uruk killed me then became a captain, then I killed him but he came back. I killed him maybe 5 times and he killed me a good amount to. By the time the final battle happened his face was so fucked up from all the times I killed him you couldn't even recognize him.
I appreciate the dedication, very informative
I remember my first nemesis don't remember his name but I remember his title the mad after killing him so many times he got all disfigured and what not the last time I saw him before the mission lord of mordor he had some kind of hood/mask on that looked like it was made out of a burlap sack it seemed to have made him fire retardant though who knew burning to death 3 times and a burlap sack would make some flame resistant.
I just stumbled onto your channel at random and I think your SoM experiments are fantastic. Very creatively breaking the game down on itself-- Gotta admit I wish there were an easier way to pulverize Ratbag without all the legwork, though. Dude's obnoxious.
What an interesting little easter egg.
Great video. Always been curious about this.
If this is how it's meant to end then I have a feeling we may see old Ratbag in Shadow of War.
My nemesis was one I had branded.
Love this channel man! keep up the videos :D
I didn't realize that you fight your personal nemesis at the end of the game. I didn't know I had a nemesis. I just thought it was a random Uruk captain.
I don't remember having a nemesis. I always beheaded or took over every captain I found. I didn't even recognize the guy at the end because he probably hadn't been around for very long.
That has to be the biggest plot twist ever
My nemesis that I had to fight was some bag-head Uruk called (something) the slobbering, that killed me like 3 hours into the the game and I just forgotten about. Once I saw him I remembered him and thought "Oh yeah, I remember you." Then I exploded his head in less than 5 minutes into the battle
I like how he just straight up dies and how non dramatic it is
I didn't have a Nemesis when I did "Lord of Mordor". I had killed every Captain my first time facing them and killed any regular Uruk that killed me right after they had been promoted. So the Captain ended up being a level 9 nobody that I had never faced before.
This game's lip-sync during gameplay is still really impressive today.
This makes a whole lot more sense after Shadow of War.
I took my sweet time playing the game and I messed around with the nemesis system a lot as well. In my 31 hours of playtime, I haven't died a single time, so I guess I have no nemesis? I still ended up getting some random captain in the end though. I don't remember him specifically.
Poor Ratbag... even if he shows up at the end, the game still doesn't deem him worthy of a slow-down death scene.
This makes me curious, in shadow of war your nemesis is ported over from shadow of mordor, and ratbag is already in shadow of war as a good guy
I was like "Oh FUCK YOU GAME!!" the moment i saw him.
I remember there was a trio of Orcs that were constantly getting in my way, I called them the Spear Brothers, because they all used Spears (Original, I know)
I encountered the first brother during an infiltration of one of the orc hideouts, he was there and killed me easily. He continued to beat the crap out of me whenever I encountered him until one day, I once again invaded the hideout, and this time I blew up a grog right next to him, taking him out....only for him to return with half his face burnt off, but after a rather short face, I ended up punching the literal soul out of his body (hypothetically, I hit him with the stun attack and that killed him)
The next nemesis, my main one, first encountered me when he along with 5 other Orc captains ambushed me during a mission, They absolutely destroyed me. I began to go after each and every captain that took part in the ambush, taking them out one by one. Until soon I got to my nemesis, and once again he killed me. It took me eleven tries, and eventually I managed to slit his throat and toss his body off a watchtower.....only for him to show up during The Tower’s mission. We had a final clash and in the end, I ran my blade through his stomach and ended him once and for all (hopefully)
The last nemesis was a Warmonger, I first encountered him during the an attack on my second nemesis. He showed up out of nowhere and weakened me to the point that I was killed by a random orc. Even after the final mission, I was not able to defeat him. One day, I and a small army of Orcs infiltrated the base he was located at, and I shot an arrow straight through his skull, hopefully ending him
I have many more nemesis that I have encounter in Shadow of War, this is my favorite game series ever
good stuff with these videos. Are you in charge to build up the hype for the second game?
My nemesis is a guy who would not stay dead. He was the easiest guy to 'kill' but he never stayed dead. I was farming him for runes for like a hundred 'deaths'... Never decapitated him but eventually he stopped coming back and I moved on. I branded everyone else in the game and when I got to the end, who's waiting for me but the dumbass I haven't seen since act 1... Biggest WTF moment I've had in years.
nemesis? I always just faced another random ass captain...
I never felt like I had a nemesis in Shadow of Mordor.
Sadly, I don't feel like I have one in Shadow of War either..
I think one nemesis that the game throws at u in the shadow wars are random.
But i remember a uruk from som and came back in shadow wars.
I remember one named (X) metal beater. I can't remember if I fought him at the end but I did fight a metal beater in SoW and he referenced our past battles so I guess it's the same orc
My only nemesis I had was the only time I died right at the start. Pug just kept coming back stronger and stronger every time I killed him until I eventually got his head off
Such effort. Great vid.
Well, dang. "Still an Orc." indeed.
On my Xbox 360, before I redid the game on a PS4 I got for Christmas, I killed my nemesis and then I finished the game and went back to the game and my nemesis was just like "SIKE I'm still alive" so I just branded him at that point.
Never had a Nemesis, killed every captain I've met, never died to anyone or anything. My Nemesis on this mission was a dude called Chain Driver. Killed him in a few moves.
What a great plot-twist :D
Well, Ratbag never had his head cut off, so...
I only ever had one nemesis and it was a spear chucking metal jaw asshole named Thrak the biter. The only reason he was my nemesis was because when I first started the game and had no powers, I met him and he just stood back and threw poisoned spears that took of half my health well I was busy getting swarmed by grunts. I stupidly kept seeking him out to get revenge and he kept killing me to the point where he was level 20 and had one damn weakness, EXPLOSIONS, which if you don't know, that is one of the worst weaknesses a captain or watcheif could have. I just kind of ignored him but I found it so cool that the game gave me a proper showdown with him. It was bitter sweat to kill him because he had caused many of rage quits but he was also the one and only nemesis I ever had. Now Talion is fully upgraded and ever encounter with a new captain is their last. I have only ever gotten one captain that come back and he was a loser, our second match ended the same way and that time, he didn't get back up.
I actually got thrown into a random captain with locked jaw in that mission, mostly because I accidentaly overpowered my character to the point of being unable to die. So without knowing, I ruined my game back then
I wonder how this would work if you imported ratbag over to shadow of war, cause spoilers he does exist there as well, and your Nemesis appears in the coliseum mission, which would mean you'd possibly have 2 ratbags in the campaign, one your nemsis and one your ally. Someone please do this!
Well I must say I appreciate the tedious work you put in here, especially when it was most likely gonna be a random captain.
One more thing I seen that you didn't cut off Mogg' head, do you or anybody know if the twins can come back if you don't cut off their head?
this was sick
Wow I had no idea Ratbag was voiced by Phil Lamarr!
i have a nemesis that i can kill really easily but everytime he shows up a bunch of other captains come and he just gets the finishing blow
All hail the mighty rat bag survivor of the hammer
I know I'm late to this one, but I have got to say, that doesn't sound anything like the normal Ratbag. Everytime I saw him he always has a lower toned voice with an accent. That Ratbag sounds almost like how I would think a goat or some other Uruk to sound.
I wonder if this Ratbag nemesis can be brought over to SoW
That's not how the nemesis choice works it's who ever killed you or made you run the most or was in your battle area and escaped the most it's who ever has given you the most grief in your case the only captain that escaped a fight with you
This video earned you a new sub :)
wow... Ratbag is like the krillin in the game. He died during the first demo of the game, died with the hammer and can die by your sword if you do this xD. interesting stuff dude.
Agustín Garcia He's more like the Yamcha of this game
Later in Shaodw of War
"Oi Ranger It's me Ratbag"
woah didn't expect that
crazy what could've been
lucky ratbag
huh, I thought this video was gonna be about something else.
I felt like I went through this game and never had A Nemesis. But I didn't fight Ratbag at the end, it was just one of the nameless/faceless captains or whoever I fought at the end.
I dunno, None of the ones I killed ever came back? or if they did, I sure didn't recognize them! The nemesis system felt lackluster when I played after how much praise that system got. I felt like I never even noticed it.
When I did that mission i didn't have a nemesis and it was a bunch of guys in red armor, also non of the captains I killed ever returned from the dead like everyone else's would😭
What rune did he give you? How bad was it?
I was hoping for Prak Jaws.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
I didnt get this ending, i had to fight the five talons of the hand
Be supprised i didnt see that moment once
No war against uruks. I think it might have been a glitch but i only fought the hammer
I replayed the game a 3rd time but this time on PC... I didn't have a specific nemisis because it never came back up... Instead if gave me one of the weakest and earliest captains I was against and tbh it sucked because I remember my first nemisis was popping up at least 2 times an hour and being a right pain in the ass "Skog the Sneak" (that said I'm pretty sure cutting their head off doesn't work, I remember doing it and them returning with black pudding for a head.
How does this channel only have 2k subs...
It's growing quick though
not quick enough hehe
Rare fotage of Stalin executing his own generals during the great purge(1938, colorised)
I was too good to get a Nemesis, murdered them all.
holy hell, shit ton of work.
Love it
dang dude, you really like shadow of mordor.
Was looking for this since they announced the Nemesis Forge system. Does this make it possible to have Ratbag in Shadow of War now?
plot twist of the century!
Lol it was funny seeing ratbag get recked by the hammer
I'm branding warcheifs rn and I still don't have a nemesis. From a normal play through
best thing is that you can brand him too
When i fought my nemesis i felt sort of happy to see him but he was so much more weaker.
no wonder i cannot find Hork the Swift again.
wow i bet this took some time, you have some patience man.
I thought ratbag is who you’re supposed to face at the end, I guess I️m just a completionist?
