What a Genius!!! I am so amazed when I watched this, I've learnt a lot so far especially what to look out for and how to find an problem using a scope.
@@Four_X Have many of the same tools, just don't have enough space to have a bench setup. They all have to go back in their boxes when I'm not working on any thing. Fingers crossed I'll have more space and can have a proper setup in the near future. Got some good idea from seeing your setup.
Well done. I love the look of the model 1 master system. I very recently modded mine with a DA retro 60hz kit. Works wonders and worth a look. Great vid.
When I probed the Address lines off camera they look OK, one looked a bit sketchy but it was natural activity but that data line was definitely busted.
My sms has similar issues. The built in game on mine is missile command. The Sega logo looks OK on startup but missile command is a graphical mess. Some games seem OK other have graphical issues. I recapped the board and reflowed most of the solder joints. Do your think this is vram too?
Hi Four X, I've watched some of your videos on RUclips which were really interesting. They are recorded in a better quality than most I've seen and very informative. Would you be willing to give me some pointers on repairing my own Master System or possibly consider repairing it (of course I'd pay you)? Please let me know, I've struggled to find anyone who has the equipment or knowledge to help me. The issue is it won't output a signal to the TV even though it is getting power. I know its not a tuning issue either because I also have a Master System 2 which works just fine. I suspect its something simple but inside on the motherboard and I am not that confident to start soldering, or swapping out components but could learn, or pay someone else to do it, although don't know anyone with the knowledge. I'm hoping you can help please.
I have a sega master system and it will power and boot into the demo game just fine and work perfectly fine however it will not load any game interested into cartridge slot it just says system error i have checked for continuity across the cartridge slot and i have even cleaned and re flowed it how ever after watching your video i think i may have a bad ram chip as well ... any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated
Hi I would like to ask for information, I also have the same problem, except that it only does it with the cartridge of a game, while the integrated game hang out works perfectly so on a graphic level.Sound also works, in the case of the game cartridge (Xenon 2) as if it were corrupt, I tried to clean it with isopropyl alcohol , But that didn't help to fix, the game is trying to play, at some point it crashes. Is there an explanation? Thank you very much, I found your video trying to find a similar solution to my problem, I hope someone can give me some help and some advice on what it might depend on, Greetings Peter.

Great fix. Your bench is always so tidy and well set up.
Thanks bud. I can't stand a messy bench, must be my OCD.

Man I wish I had a scope. I just take shots in the dark with this stuff. Really good video though.
Master system = love
Yep, loved my MS back in the day.
Your channel is so damn underrated. Great and interesting video! Would be cool if you try to polish the case.
Thanks.
Nice repair !! LOved it !! Thanks for the tips.
I do have a question, how do you know the date was going out the chip and not in ? Thank you

@@Four_X ok I see thank you :)
Nice fix. Never heard someone from the UK pronounce it "SEE-GA" before, thought it was just an Ozzie thing.
Thanks.
@@Four_X It's not Seega. It's Sega
Can we use the master system without the IO shield on the motherboard?
Sure, It's not needed.
your channel is amazing. One question is easy desoldering the cartdrige slot? Mine has some pins that are broken
This has been very helpful. Do you know of a cheap source for that ram. Maybe other late 1980s devices that used it?
Is there no way to rescue the ms2? What kills them completely?

Oh ya and it's Sega not Seeeega. I'm just taking the piss cheers from Canada.

great video very informative. i am curious though is there a way to test the data line with just a multimeter?
I know it's old, but no, you can't. The best you can test is if power is getting to it.
nice fix on video as always
Cheers bud.
That person killed a SMS while doing a 60Hz mod ? Wow, I guess we all feel better about ourselves now ^-^
Yep, I think he or she killed the custom sega gate array. what a plonker.

Did you try the original ram in the socket? you might have just had a dicky connection.
Yep tried the RAM in the new socket it was toast.
Please send me the sega master system
It's in the post, Ha.
It's pronounced Sayga not Seega
What are you the pronunciation police, oh no.
@@Four_X Nope but I am obviously more intelligent than you. You can't even pronounce a word correctly 🤡
