The way the performer explained how he is not moving by his own, is like previous performers are moving his body for him was very touching, the guy was full of emotion. The swan boat was cute. Awesome video, you did great promoting this place.
Has its good and bad sides, if you're forced into doing something you don't want to learn. But if you're willed to, you can't find a better teacher than your ancestors
Oh my god! I got to visit that paper craft shop with my taiko group a couple of years ago and we met Hashimoto-san. We later brought him out to my hometown in Maui to perform at our local matsuri. I’m happy to see he is still so lively and full of energy!!
OMG....... more Sharla content... i have been watching alllllll your videos on Sharmeleon and went over here and MORE TO WATCH :)!!!!!!!!!!! So excited!!!!!!
I m a 53 th french woman and i follow your hight quality vid and i always enjoy all of them. Thanks a lot Sharla for your English so easy to understand and your smiles so pretty.
The man doing the dance was so cool, it's cool to see something that looks kind of for lack of a better word "silly" but then hearing such a touching backstory to something like that.
You always have the most positive attitude about everything. I’ve never seen you in a bad mood no matter what happens. It’s so refreshing to see you because you always had such a great presence.
A human puppet show! He was definitely filled with joy and spirit! I had seen a show a while ago that spoke of how the Japanese master craftsmen were getting old, and in order to get younger people involved in traditional crafts and arts, the government funds them so the history and culture is not lost. I think that is great, and wish more countries could do it.
The swans were beautiful to see, but Mr. Hitoji stole the show. It's great that he's carrying on a long family tradition. Back here in the States he'd be dismissed as just some weirdo, but what he does is part of the culture there and it's just plain fun.
Fun fact about swans: The sound they make comes from their wings when flying and not from themselves. Ironically they are sometimes called 'mute swans' even tough they are very loud in my own experience. Also, every swan in England belongs to the Queen. [The last one is not verified, it's just something I got told and I'm sorry for the randomness of this comment.] After seeing this video: Ah, I think it's so amazing that they still pass on these jobs from generation to generationa and I am *so* impressed by the art on the daruma :o Both yours and his actually. Obviously his way better, but it's his job anyway, and I think for your first try it was really good. Painting with small brushes is both nice and super complicated, so I feel ya xD
I watched all this in cartoons during my childhood such as shin cham, kochikame etc. Never knew they were a part of Japanese culture irl. This is so beautiful.
You get to experience so much Sharla, thanks for sharing the people of the world I wouldn't get something like that here in the states. Japan and other places have something special.
What a great vlog! I loved the snowy lake. Your Totoro was _very_ good, I wouldn't have known it was your first try. And I loved watching the two of you dance together!
Everything was so cute !! The snow, the swans, the ducks, the lake, your prink totoro, the performance & you ! Thank you for sharing that was awesome 😍 I love how confortable you are in front of the camera, you know exactly what to say without rumbling or anything and that's SO HARD TO DO haha. You're amazing 🙌
Oh my goodness Sharla, what an amazing two video adventure in Fukushima! The onsens look like paradise on earth, the winter sceneries are lovely and the last dancing was just so great! Japan is such an amazing country! 🗾🏮🎎🎋
When the gent started dancing my cat perked up next to me and started growling at the TV! Bahahah he did not appreciate the random dancing and mask change. XD lolol!
The Dutch are so prolific even the ad algorithms recognize Joost as one. Why else would I have an ad for vacation in the Netherlands while watching a video about Japan? :p *high fives fellow Dutchies*
Why didn't I see this until now ;-; It was sooo funny how you were like "We still have hope' 2secs later "I almost lost hope' HAHAHAHHAHA This adventure looked soooooo cool and definitely worth checking out ^_^
Oh my goodness. I was watching and went to put my wash into the dryer. When I came back in the guy was dancing on my tv and I was laughing so hard I woke my son up from nap. Thank you I needed a good laugh. It's been a rough week 😂
The old man is soo cool! 🤣 He seems to have a really fun life 🕺🏻 Thank you Sharla for sharing these experiences with us ❤️ A lot of love from germany! 🤗

Omg I love this guy! He looks so happy performing. It's contagious and I love it!!
The way the performer explained how he is not moving by his own, is like previous performers are moving his body for him was very touching, the guy was full of emotion. The swan boat was cute. Awesome video, you did great promoting this place.
I love how they work so hard to preserve their art and keep it going through generations!

What fun! So much talent. First the painting, then this performance. 😄
The snow was really coming down. It looks beautiful! Interesting job Joost has.

Glad you had such great last days in Japan!
Absolutely wonderful! Loved the swans!
Me sees a tall man behind Sharla: "he's probably Dutch"
Sharla: "Introduce yourself'
Man: "I'm Joost".
Me: 'Yup, I recognise my Dutchies'.
Philippien hahaha
My thoughts exactly :D
SAME. I just knew he was Dutch >.< then I heard his name and I was like jup he's Dutch, yaaaay
Hahaha! I was thinking the exact same thing, Philippien.
His name already gave it away but when he started to talk there was no way going around that dutchie accent 😂
Happy New Year! May this be a happy and fruitful year.

Further north in Rokkasho, Aomori. We get a lot of those swans. And you don't gotta get up early as hell for em either.

Still can’t believe she’s no longer in Japan. ‘Sharla in Korea’ just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
