This video from BBC Learning 6 Minute English was very insightful! I learned new vocabulary and enjoyed the US report about literacy. I love reading novels 📖, and right now, I'm reading "A Passage to India" by E.M. Forster. The British accent made it even more enjoyable! 🌟🇬🇧✨
My aunt had once shared me her deep story of being illiterate in the contryside. Most of the adults were never taught or had a privilege to be illerate because of the conflicted area and undeserved community. She was falling in love with the boy who was caring and supportive for her. After three years, she was proposed by a love letter however she was unable reading therefore she did not response anything about the message. Thus, her boyfriend assumed that she refused him badly. After three years, she tried to learn and read and then she knew the main purpose of the letter..
I cannot imagine being unable to read simple things, let alone books. I feel sorry for those who haven't the chance to learn for different reasons. Thanks for making us, who can read, aware of how lucky we are!

Since I started learning English, I've been reading two English novels (the first one is *A Terrible Kindness* by Jo Browning Wroe and the second one is *Paper Palace* (you probably have heard about both novels for sure) Nobody has obliged me to read both of these novels. I just wanted to find something which is based on my preferences and to learn some English as well. And of course, I won't stop here. In Romanian schools, our teachers give us a huge list of novels which is mandatory to read everything on that list. But the most upsetting thing is that nearly half of the country's population cannot read or write. Even if the government has promised to people in every election that the literacy rate will grow in the future and education and research will be a priority, few measures have been implemented in recent years.

In my country called Brazil, people don't read books and some write very little in their language (Portuguese). Now imagine in other languages like English and Spanish. Thanks BBC.

I spend a lot of my free time Reading: every morning I read the newspaper and , in the evening I read book in my own language and in english. It's a wonderful way to relax and keep informed!
The word "thick" reminds me of "dense" which also carries the meaning of stupidity. I usually come across this word in movies when a girl complains about the fact that her boyfriend is so dense when it comes to reading her mind.
I LOVE reading some romantic, thriller and phychologic books. However, I still reading some news from the media, about fashion, health, sexology, travels, cinema and more.
