tapping the pedal is meant as a way to combat deflection (more commonly referred to as pad knockback). Tapping the pedal essentially 'primes' the pads by having the pistons pressed up directly against the backing plate and the pad as close as possible to the rotor so when he gets on the brakes - BANG - they're there. No waiting, no hesitation, no overly long brake pedal.

Incredible lesson in racing. I can't drive like that. Thanks legend Leh for posting.

3:50 Are you tapping the brake in order to warm them up a bit or is it just to check to see if they are still there?

Hear That? I'm pretty sure he's forcing the the pads to be completely flush with the discs as the pistons can come slightly off during hard cornering or going over rumble strips, which gives a very awkward pedal feel.

***** I thinks he put the brake just for turn on de brake light for say the driver in the back: Prepare im braking.. I thinks..

+Hear That? pretty sure he's just tapping to make sure he still has pressure. Pretty common thing to do.

Creatre I dont know cus you have 10 or 15% dead zone in the brake pedal.. listent the sound when he press the pedal, the sound of the car not drop.. All driver make this..

+Hear That? He is checking there is pressure and to make sure the pads and discs are square with each other. Because it's a qualifying run, he is doing a bit faster than race pace and part of delivering that pace is driver confidence. Pumping the pedal and making sure that there are brakes makes you confident to brake those 2 or 3 meters later.

I don't know much about sequential gearbox, this car sounds like using one, obviously changing gear doesn't need clutch pedal, what is it there for?

***** I don't believe the gearbox derived from the PDK. IRRC it's a conventional single clutch racing dogbox that happens to be paddle operated with a pneumatic system.

Tapping the brake pedal resets the brake pads that may have moved out due to going over the curbs. Gearbox is hydraulically operated non-PDK, only one gear is selected at a time. Throttle blips and cut out are automatic.
