- 🧵The Garment District is often overlooked in the guide books despite the neighborhood being located between Times Square and Herald Square, but this area is the reason why NYC is one of the fashion capitols of the world.
Let's walk along Fashion Avenue (aka Seventh Avenue) and learn about the history of the garment industrial skyscrapers, the seedy neighborhood that was here before, and rise of American high-end fashion.

So interesting watching this video today seeing how normal everything seemed a couple months before a worldwide pandemic hit. This will leave a mark on us forever!
Agreed, it’s such a stark difference. Especially this particular neighborhood which is one of the quietest in the city now

I've never been a denier of whitewashing, but as a white person, I've never experienced anything like it. Seeing that statue of a man sewing, I felt some outrage at gender washing. I've worked in fashion for years, and it is one of the few industries I know that is actually female dominated, both historically and presently. Seeing a statue of a man to represent SEAMSTRESSES was aggravating, to say the least. How many thousands of women worked here, one man shows up, and he gets the statue!!
