- The Cook Islands are somewhat unknown in the South Pacific, but they have a secret tropical paradise known as Aitutaki. It has the most beautiful lagoon, crystal clear tropical water, and perfect sandy beaches.
If you can't afford to stay on the island, you can take a day excursion or day trip to Aitutaki and see things much more affordably. You'll have to fly in and out on the same day, but we thought it added to the adventure!

I've been to Aitutaki and fell in love with the lagoon. It has such extreme swirls of different colors in the sunlight, it's a very dream-like, hypnotic quality. It most certainly leaves a strong impression.

One of the world’s best lagoons if not the best.
highly recomend the cooks and especially Aitutaki, dont just do a day trip, we do two weeks and spend three quarters of our time in aitutaki, been 3 times, we be back when covid settles, the place has cheaper options, rent a house and a car, its stunning, people are amazing, beautiful people, love the boat tours, the yellow boat is great as goes to Honeymoon island and Puna is amazing, so is the vaka, teking, capt Tamas on Rarotonga, everyone is great

Spent about a week on Aitutaki about 10 years ago. Such a crazy beautiful place. Me and my partner just pedalled round the island on pushbikes, exploring the eastern side of the island, where there were lots of little farm plots, with chooks roaming everywhere and lush fruit and veges. That and lots of swimming and paddleboarding and eating lots of ika mata and.... a hundred things. Here in New Zealand we've got a Covid-free travel bubble to go there, so might have to get a ticket soon and re-explore the place.
Have been there a few years back.
The Cook Islands are such a welcoming place.
And both Rarotonga and Aitutaki are out of this world beautiful.
We also spent some time kayaking around the lagoons on our own.
The tranquility is unbelievable.
Love the little communities they have on the Cook Islands. And the food also.
We were there in 2017. It really is the best spot in all of the South Pacific, if not the world.

yep our daughter grazed her knee and once the blood stopped she went back in the water on One foot island, within 1 minute 5 trevally were hanging around us very close lol

Great video. I'm glad you two had great weather in Aitutaki as it looked miserable in Rarotonga. Went with my wife in 2018 to 3 islands in French Polynesia which looks just as nice.
Aitutaki has way better weather than Raro, i think the landscape of raro attracts rain clouds huge mountain in the middle, aitutaki is small and pretty flat compared, we always get better weather in aitutaki
Yep, I think any mountain in a humid environment is going to cause a micro climate, but sometimes it’s nice to have a little rain 🌧 to keep you appreciative of the sun ☀️

The place I stayed (Samade on the Beach, I think it was) wasn't expensive at all. Think it may have changed hands or changed names and be called Aitutaki Village, but it was a cool place, with the restaurant right at water level on the lagoon. Could have a beer or meal with your feet in the water.

We saw a few houses in the main town before we got on our boat, but definitely just locals.

Anyone know how to get to Aitutaki? I have searched for flights from Indianapolis on several apps for several different dates and can not find one single flight.
