the maintenance on a rotary engine isn't as bad as people make it out to be, honestly it's no different than any other car, keep the oil changed every 3000 miles and check the oil every other fill up which if you're not doing this anyway than you do not need a car at all, my RX8 has 123500 miles on the original engine and she's still going strong
Same here, 130K and no problems on an '04. Couldn't have said it any better myself. I treat all my vehicles the same: warmups, regular oil changes, and adherence to maintenance intervals for replacing "consumable" items and they've all awarded me with >100K mi without catastrophic failure. I've had more "problems" with my Corolla than the RX8, and by problems, nothing out of the norm of regular maintenance for a piston engine: timing belt, valve adjustment, valve stem seals, etc. All normal wear items NOT found on a rotary.
nickoli9889 thank you! I hope so too. I have some videos on my channel of the car if you wanna check it out. I'll have some more in another couple of weeks of the wheels I'll be putting on!
I hope Mazda do make the next generation of the rotary engines they are seriously under rated and with todays technology who knows where its going to go.... People forget that Johnny Herbert WON the 24 hour Le Mans in 1991 betting all the big guns in a rotary powered engine
I believe that RX7 going to be another Rx8 ..but have a great body. I prefer the old 4r port engine 12A,13B 1970,71,72,73,74,engine or13B 1993,94, 12A ,13B ,84,85.. those was the best .but Felix Walker was the best of the best.
I currently own a 2006 RX8 and I have to say that it is grate when it's running right which is not that often! The coils seem to burn out very quick and the replacement coils are expensive at £59 each. I have had the cat removed which I'm told gives around 30BHP more giving about 260BHP in total and there is defiantly no problem with torque!
Keith Watson Use updated series 2 coils OR replace them with genuine AC Delco D585 coils. You simply need a $10 eBay adapter and a threaded rod to mount to the existing bracket. They have higher output and will likely outlast the engine. Many people swap these into various cars for this reason.
Under the assumption that this is not a 0 mileage car, yes. New retrofitted D585 coils outlived my friends built LS motor with then- ~80K on it, which were subsequently swapped into a new build. I imagine they have >100K on them now. Now kindly go fuck yourself
Low thermal efficiency leads to higher underhood temps than most automobiles.. it caused a lot of problems for Mazda over the years until they found a permanent solution... cancellation of the RX line in 2012 .
The RX8 was nothing more than a colossal embarrassment. The 4 door concept was so demeaning to a truly special rotary sports car. I drove an RX7 for many years and was awaiting the RX8 to appear, only to see 4 doors that turned a sports car into a gaudy crossbreed. It also was well noted for having a number of bugs that tainted any hope of a fan base. The 2019 RX9 is more like what one would expect and a larger rotary engine is paramount. For enthusiasts mazda believes that the gas and oil gulping rotary must be fit with better gas mileage but I don't believe that this variable is the end all for a higher end sports car, though, it wouldn't hurt. Power is everything and mixed with a sleek design is what people want and the RX8 set mazda back almost a decade and the perpetrator of that fiasco should have not only been fired but should have gone to prison for idiocy.
I owned a 2004 RX-8 and it was fun to drive, but difficult to start sometimes due to excessive fumes in the rotary chamber. It sat for five days one time before I could start it, then I traded it for an Acura. Back seats were amazingly roomy. Rear tires wore easily. Looking forward to seeing the new genesis from Mazda.
Shocking. Look who it is - the salty, pathetic fucker that comments in every rotary video spouting the same bullshit. Which sentence did you copy and paste this time? FYI I have a daily driven '04 with all 130K original miles.
I mean seriously, this clown LITERALLY has a list (probably neatly saved in a Word file) of propagandized phrases that he comments in every Mazda rotary video.

nickoli9889 I hit 134,000 this morning on the way to work and still no issues at all really
Awesome, I wish you many more a mile!

May I ask, what is the engine oil grades(viscosity & etc) that U are using?. I'm planning to buy 1 but going to swap to fd3s twin turbo engine.. :)
I hope Mazda do make the next generation of the rotary engines they are seriously under rated and with todays technology who knows where its going to go.... People forget that Johnny Herbert WON the 24 hour Le Mans in 1991 betting all the big guns in a rotary powered engine
What the fuck is that?!
ok you say 2 things wrong, first it was Turbo charged, and later naturally aspirated, you might want to read up on what your saying to people
Its 2017 already... clearly this story is fake.
Mazda already announced their 2017 model line-up at the New York Auto Show.. no RX model.
The real doktorbimmer
Mazda's CEO confirmed this week that the company has no plans to produce a RX sports car.
Cheers!
excellent car if it is not broken down for repairs which is quite often............
EXACTLY why is music (a rap song no less) put in the background of a narration ? What school of cinema production teaches that ?
agreed, the music sucks nutsack
WATCH ROTARY HEMI BREAKTHROUGH ON YOU TUBE
as of 2022 when the new fake thing is the rx-9 we need more rotary lol
not real . doors all windows and bonnet from a photoshopped aston dbs
Lies lies lies lies lies lies lies lies lies lies lies lies lies lies lies lies...
if mazda can figure out the rotory engine then the Miata would be a natural next home because its 4 cylinder sucks.
Mazda's CEO completely disagrees with you...
what is the song playing in the background
2017 arrived long time ago lol

Damn, this didnt age well
I'll take notice of an American viewpoint on this when they start to pronounce "Mazda" properly, - and Nissan, and Honda, and......
Yea I want one fingers crossed
This is a hoax..
Mazda's CEO confirmed this week that the company has no plans to produce any new RX sports car.
Brilliant Mazda

"and will likely outlast the engine?" Well that's not saying much! Lol!!!

Mazda has always been a discount, entry level brand... you get what you pay for.. except when you bought an RX... in that case you got even less...

There is no RX-9, it was just an internet hoax. Mazda's CEO confirmed it has no plans to produce any sports car other than the MX-5 in the future.
hoo lee shid
I want the rotary engine / RX-8 BACK!!!!!!!!
I will buy one!!! I've been waiting a long time.
Well, don't hold your breath, because Mazda is not going to bring back the RX.
Still looking for my iPhone notification message 😠
17,990$
I hear its supposed to be running "electronic" turbochargers, not n/a as said in the video.
Its not real.. Mazda does not manufacture the RX line anymore
l had a first generation RX7 an l have been waiting to see a new RX Mazda
There won't be a new RX... the RX line has been discontinued.

Awesome thank you, also very excited for what Mazda is planning for a new rx7
+C Milo Mazda has no plans for a new RX-7 or any other RX model.. the RX line has been discontinued.

Damaged or worn out apex seals is what causes flooding issue and lets you know that the engine is in desperate need of replacement or overhaul.
JD DiTore
Sounds like you flooded it. Glad you finally got the car that better suits your driving habits
2004 RX-8s were especially prone to engine failure.. they were recalled in the US for engine failures due to premature apex and side seal failure.
