Glad to see Will getting some visibility on Alan’s channel. Will’s training, style, and philosophy is very inspirational to me. It’s helped me simplify my training, make it more fun, and make real progress.
I take comfort in having subscribed to Will not long ago. Alan, thank you for the content, I wouldn’t have been able to arrive at Wills channel independently without first having learned from creators like yourself.
I think S&C content is less popular than powerlifting because powerlifting is easier and most commercial gyms can support powerlifting. Personally I want to get way more in S&C type lifting/exercising, but my gym isnt well setup for it. I do pylos/sprints, but I feel awkward trying to learn OLY lifts in a commercial gym.
Awesome to see this collaboration. It would be great to see a collaboration between you and others like Alec Enkiri and Atlaspowershrugged. Great to see the community getting together and putting stuff out there.
Loved this! Having followed Alan from years ago and recently discovering Will’s channel a little over a year ago, this was a collab I’d never thought I’d see!
Alan, loved this “podcast” and would love to see more content like this in the future, a lot of great information! I’m obviously not an interview pro. I think you can improve by asking your question and then letting the guest answer. You are probably aware of this already because your videos and content are always excellent, but you did a lot of asking a question, then framing how Will should answer. Ask the question and then let him go. Just my viewpoint and again, I really enjoyed this and hope to listen to more like this from you!
You caught me with the thumbnail of snatch. Really good time to have weightlifting content after Karlos Nasar and Lasha Talakhadze killed it at the Olympics.
That dunk a basketball goal was one I always strived for but never made it to. At 42, 6’0”, about 30 lbs overweight, and a light CrossFit/cardio/minimal strength training history, I wonder how likely I can to get the dunks going?! Going for it, hold me accountable Alan RUclips friends!! I’ll check in each month or quarter years
Take away from this: Pick compound exercises, train your cardio and sprints, stay consistent and put in the effort and you will be ahead of 95 percent of your peers
Around 24 min mark with specialties for sports... I feel like the physical therapy/functional fitness trend hit the sports training world hard and there isnt as much high quality evidence compared to (easier studied) things like powerlifting or hypertrophy
I was embarrassed to do the trap bar DL for years, decades even. At 6’4” and 39 years old while having proportionally longer legs than an upper body, the trap bar DL is now a great tool on the belt to have.
Powerlifting is the most accessible, and is the sinplest to program. There are only three lifts, so the complexity is already low. And there is a very specific and measurable goal: highest one rep max. Easy to measure, easy to program, every gym on earth has the equipment
My glutes got bigger when I started doing hip thrusts and 45-degree hip hinging after years of standard barbell work at CrossFit. I had to buy bigger shorts.
less fatigue from axial loading is a benefit, potentially easier to use good technique, maybe more stimulation of the target muscle groups because you can't 'cheat'.
Sitting on the floor removes any assistance from leg drive. It’s a different stress on your torso. If you haven’t done it before, give it a shot as press accessory. You’ll have to use less weight than you would for regular strict press.
It's the programming and coaching. I don't know how to program sprints and sustain it, and create space for it. Often you may have to add a new location to do sprints. Or if I show up to the track and say, "I'm starting sprints this week" there is nothing for me to stay mentally in it. Do I do the same thing again next week? Or do I have to sprint backwards. This is something a coach can really help with. Or some sort of random online bulketin, community where you check and find your weekly sprint/plyo to do list. It's about as engaging mentally as stretching, even if it's arguably more useful
@TheTopher528 brush your teeth, make your bed, call your mother, do your sprints. It's easy to say, but your brain isn't programmed to do. When you are like 12? You love sprints, but you are encouraged to do more fitness that has more mental engagement because you mentally need to learn the discipline and see the long term gains of running distance, progressive overload training with higher reps etc. Then you lose it and mentally forget it. I'm overcomplicating it, but am I really? The brain is the hardest muscle to train, and that's why I tell my co workers and colleagues why I train so hard at the gym. (I work at a research institution) because yeah, we all agree there is no need to deadlift 350 lbs in our day to day world, but the mental game to get there is what keeps you showing up to the gym.
Nice to see the Alan, the Lord of Time, in full form here.
In all His glory!
😂
Alan is an orthodox icon here😅
I am ashamed over how long it took me to understand your comment. 🤣
Untamed Time!
Alan has always been a principled upright guy but I still wasn't expecting the halo.
Will has such an underrated channel...love how quick and to the point he gets to his message.
not anymore.
Ratelle is violently overlooked. Absolute gold in his videos.
what do you mean buy violently? That a strange way to put it.
Yeah that was weird

Same
Sika strength is an excellent S&C channel
Yes they’re also criminally underrated
A crossover i never thought i'd see. Will's training advice is concrete. It's pretty cool to see he's getting more exposure.
On my tiny phone screen it looks like Alan is wearing a sombrero for the interview. 😂
😂

Will is a monster. One of the best fitness channels on YT without a doubt.
Alan looking like a saint straight off the mural
Will's simplistic and no fluff programming is awesome. Made insane strength, power and speed gains running HOSS

Find a different gym.
@@JBravoRebel oh great advice, never thought of that
Came back to watch Alan after 2 years, he looks so different! Holy co
Two legends of YT fitness. I already know im gonna love this.
Absolutely love Will’s approach to training and S&C
Great collab, been a fan of both channels for a while!

No way. Helluva collab. He's up next I think
What? The Thrall Ratelle collab? What what what?! Is this some kind of dream?
Big fan from India alan been following you since 4 years

Sika Strength and Dane Miller (Garage Strength) are a couple of well known RUclips S&C Channels

will puts out good content
Loving Alan’s sombrero
Great chat. Appreciate the depth of the conversation
Love this. More interviews, please.
Was on a visit at UND when Will was in the weight room. Stud and nice guy
Very cool conversation!
Can confirm hoss olympic is worth getting
he likes Starting Strenght. The Bible, Rippetoe our profet.
Take away from this: Pick compound exercises, train your cardio and sprints, stay consistent and put in the effort and you will be ahead of 95 percent of your peers
Two of my favourite brothers in one video. Alan taught me how to Deadlift and will taught me how to be lift heavy and explosive
Really enjoyed this.
Another great video
Can't believe 2 gods have united
Good conversation
Hoss has entered the chat
Fuck yeah!

Trap bar deadlifts are awesome
I'm gonna watch his video but I'm surprised when he said he didn't like them. I credit them big time from getting my deadlift from mid 700 to 837.
WTH, a snatch with a split? I never saw that!
Yeah that's the old school style that was used back before the squat snatch became a popular thing.
@GOAT-rl2uq thanks, I imagine more speed needed to make it happen -- looks tricky, I can barely do the split on a C&J.
Oh hell yeah
holy shit i never imagined this crossover

Nice
What's the benefit of sitting down overhead press?
less fatigue from axial loading is a benefit, potentially easier to use good technique, maybe more stimulation of the target muscle groups because you can't 'cheat'.
For me also it is easier to move my upper body in position for behind the neck presses
Sitting on the floor removes any assistance from leg drive. It’s a different stress on your torso. If you haven’t done it before, give it a shot as press accessory. You’ll have to use less weight than you would for regular strict press.
For the algorithm

Just do some sprints lmao, Jesus bro don't overcomplicate so hard

RUclips commiting a crime by not alerting me of this video
If you close your eyes, Alan sounds like Aaron Rodgers
405 is child's play. 5 plate clean or bust.
Would love to see a 40+ year old guest. I feel like once my late 30’s came around, things began to change for the worse in my body.
