I'm no expert, but these rules all need to be changed. The WRC is prioritizing rules over actual skill. Taking away Yiheng's 3x3 PR just because he touched the wrong cube after is absurd. We all know the cube was solved. Even proceeding that, the WRC refusing to look at frame-by-frame footage because the rules said so is not right. The rules shouldn't be preventing actual competituon from taking place, and they should not take precidence over skill and records when no obvious cheating was done. The rules certainly should not allow cheating just because.
Completely agree. Also, he is just 10 years old and as others in the comments stated, all this could have a serious negative effect on his mental health (and obviously his future as a speedcuber).
Allowing a cube to be touched afterward is exploitable. Nobody had a chance to examine it fully. This isn't a big problem if cameras are everywhere, but this is not always the case. This is no different from if he inadvertently ran into someone in a race: it's still a foul and still has to be handled by the rules, because intent does not and _must not_ matter.
Right now Yiheng probably feels like the whole cubing community is against him. I hope he doesn't feel that way, and if he does, I hope he feels supported for the rest of his cubing journey.

The +4s weren’t because of bad stops, they were because he not only had a bad starting position (hands sideways) but he also was touching the cube while starting. Timer stops still can’t be analyzed frame by frame.
Yiheng worked had to get to these fast times, and he apparently has a good team around him. Since he is still very young, no matter what was decided, he still is an amazing cuber and it is likely he will break new records over the next few years. I hope he finds joy in cubing !

Which at the end of the day, would make it so that we can see their solves online and the only evidence we have of a world record is from the final standings of an event. Unless it's mandatory to have your solves recorded(which I'm sure not every single person at a cubing event can afford a high quality camera to record their solves for them to count), then who's gonna stop someone from doing sliding starts or whatever for 2x2 and breaking the world record. But since there's no way to analyze the solve frame by frame(because of either a super low quality recording or a complete lack of recording), then there's no way to say that they cheated
as a outsider of the cubing world, maybe someone should think of a better way to calculate time. maybe count only when rubix cube is picked up and stop when it touches the table?

there still isent a distance requirement for the distance from the timer to the cube after you place it down after inspection like since there is no DEDICATED word in the regulations that says the word distance or length or range you can still place the cube touching the timer and not the fingers and hands when you get ready to solve the cube thus i can inspect the cube in the inspection time place the cube DOWN TOUCHING THE TIMER middle section place my 2 hands on the 2 palm signs on the timer not touching the cube but it can be 1 inch away anyways (since the cube is in the middle of the timer and is INBETWEEN the hands) start the solve and beat the timer starting(im saying have your hands already on the cube before the timer even starts and is exactly .001 seconds by the time it even starts) imagine that you have your fingers already turning the cube since you place it closer to your fingers before the timer started there are still many ways to beat the timer before it even starts for you to have your hand on the cube in essence beat the timer by having your hands on the cube before it starts imagine being faster than the timer start and having many fingers on the cube as it starts .001 seconds
