- The next generation of Amtrak's electric locomotives is nearly upon us! The N scale Siemens ACS-64 (or "Amtrak Cities Sprinter") will be arriving in late 2015 in a bookcase set packaged with brand new tooling Amfleet I cars.
Take a look at some of the details of this new locomotive and cars, in addition to some basic dis-assembly tips to prepare you for when the locomotive arrives in your hands!

Always look forward to your reviews. Another Home Run for KATO...I may have to modernize my layout.
I had always vowed never to buy an electric locomotive since I live in Ohio, but after riding behind that was being towed on the Capitol Limited, and seeing three more in Harrisburg while on vacation.... I cannot wait to have an ACS-64 on my N scale layout! This looks fantastic guys, keep up the amazing work!

Your prototype looks good with the exception of the pantograph. Looks like it is, a plastic add on. I'm hoping this looks better on the production models. No matter. I still plan to buy the set and any ad on sets. Nice set.
You mentioned headlights, but what about taillights? When the locomotive is reversing will the red lights light up? If not, are there at least light pipes in place so DCC decoder manufacturers can install the red LEDs?
i'd totally buy it in HO Scale!

I was really interested in picking up a set as 98% of what I own is Kato but the roof details are a real turn off. I think Kato could of done a better job. Hopefully the final production models are better. Just my thoughts...

Where are Horizon cars in N and HO. $$$$$$$$$$$$
living in California these locomotives are transported by flat car out of California and where they meet p42 to be pulled I am not sure about but I live next to the bnsf rail yards in southern California and everytime they are being shipped out they are covered in plastic wrap for protection and on flat cars in regular manifest trains and no more than 4 are transported in the consist because well......locomotives are heavy
Are you going to make the veterans unit like with the p42? That would be cool to see.

Will the locomotive be sold separately at all? Or still just the set.
+Vermonter Railfan © Eventually. With the initial release, since the ACS-64 uses the Amfleet Is and those are a new car body type, they're being sold together as a "train" (similar to our Silver Streak). In the future we will make more road numbers of the Cities Sprinter available on their own.

Another Fine Product from Kato N scale , not to change subject, but would be real nice to see you make another run of UP Heritage N scale PN.176-8407 UP/CNW #1995 SD70ACE hobby Shops seem to all be sold out but they tell me there asked for very often . what few I find on auction sites are way over priced ,I have 5 of your fine UP, heritage SD70ACE,S just like this one, having all 6 .

how about the Pacific Surfliner in N? You already got the cars, only the blue/silver paint is needed. I would love to see that Train. I won´t affort the money for the limited 500 pices train out there and a crappy Athearn F59PHI. Here it is over 1500$
Is there any chance that Kato will produce the F59PHI in N someday? :)

Pacific Surfliner cars are almost nothing like Amtrak Superliners.

The base ACS-64+Amfleet set is just a locomotive and cars. We do also sell it in the form of a Starter Set (item #106-0042) which comes with track and a power pack.

How fast is this N scale model?
+Chris Martone As fast as you make it - it's been geared to run at the same base speeds as our P42 though so you can use it in matched consists to replicate Amtrak moving the locos from their manufacturing plant in California to the east coast. :)
