    I recently heard from my organizations safety coach about a pediatric nurse who didn't catch that the vial she drew the vaccine from was a "muliti dose," vial & she administered 5 ml of Polio vaccine! 1st of all you should NEVER come across the need for 5 ml of any vaccine dosage & when compared the multi dose vial was actually smaller than the single dose one so always check that label! The child recovered, but not before vomiting & having to be admitted for observation. No one's perfect & it was a teachable moment moving forward. Do not be fooled by the size of the vial... 0.5 ml & 5.0 ml are definitely NOT the same thing.

      One-time use needles don't give you that option. The needle can't be removed from the syringe.

      It is no longer required to use of gloves. It's considered a waste of resources and risk of coming into contact with blood is minimal.

      Needles are recapped because it's a safety device. So it won't puncture into anyone. Then, they go into a sharp container.

      @@amybaron8285 yeah, but recapping in your hand is not the best practice. Sliding the needle partially into the cap sitting on a surface is safer. That’s what I meant.

It all takes time. Most if the time you will start with drs with tons of experience and can work with what you give them. Then, if they are a decent doc, they will commend what you did and let you know any specific needs for the future.

    Why do you not worry about it if they spit almost all of it out?

    • @kompactdisk
      @kompactdisk Год назад +2

      Because oral vaccines for infants are specifically made to have enough of the vaccine in it to be considered a fully administered dosage, because they'll likely spit it out, or it will leak out. It's not considered an overdose or anything if they manage to drink and ingest the entire container, nor is it an under-dosage or missed administration if "too little" goes in, because there's not really a thing as too little in this case.

      Preventing potentially deadly diseases for not only the child but all the other people they will come into contact with is achieved through vaccination. I can't believe people do not understand this. Childhood death used to be far more commonplace before medical advancements.
