I remember I first went to watch this movie with my dad years ago, when it first came out in theaters. Lol and funny thing my class and I were reading the book with our teacher right before the movie came out on Christmas. Ah, happy times.
CS Lewis was once asked why he decided to show Christ as a lion.....he replied by saying that he kept dreaming of lions while writing his books. The Divine has many, many forms...whichever we can identify with and love is there for us.
Aslan did not die to forgive Edmund. In the book, at least, he had already forgiven Edmund. His resurrection is an example of Christus Victor, Christ victorious against the powers of evil. Yes, he is paying the price of Edmund’s treachery, but that’s a legalistic matter, not a matter of forgiveness.
I may not believe in the religion, but Lewis' original story, and this film, do well to capture the the potent themes behind the crucifixion of Christ. Be it the true meaning behind the sacrifice and all it entailed, the selflessness and courage that led Jesus to accept his imminent execution, or the joyous miracle of his resurrection that followed. A very enjoyable depiction that most of the soulless Hollywood-Hallmark dreck pumped out these days about the same topic consistently fail to capture on every conceivable front.

This is why books should be tv shows. They have more time for details. I don’t like how they make it so Aslan doesn’t explain the reason behind his resurrection. “It means that though the Witch knew the Deep Magic, there is a magic deeper still which she did not know. Her knowledge goes back only to the dawn of time. But if she could have looked a little further back, into the stillness and the darkness before Time dawned, she would have read there a different incantation. She would have known that when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards”. The BBC version is far more accurate
