He is not being strict, but only teaching the drums to another. Playing the drums is very hard and complicated, so if you get down the main rudiments and the correct sounds to hitting the stick against the practice pad then you are better off than most.

Therefore, if the student didnt appreciated this, he can be a bad apple in general if he played in a band. He can have a bad tempo, bad rythm, because of complacent practice in the initial stage of learning.
