  • During the last phases of the Second World War, many Waffen SS divisions were created with recruits who until very recently would never have been accepted. In today's program we are going to see one of them being number 14, which is precisely so current today due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Next we will analyze the history of the 14th Waffen SS Galizien Grenadier Division.

Since their relocation in the British Commonwealth and the USA, Ukranian nationalists have been nurtured to become a fascist political and later military proxy to bash Russia with. Russia is the grand prize, and Ukrainians are the Pope's disposable Catholics.

My father 1945 Royal Artillery British Army. Southern Austria, soldiers surrendered, a large unit of Ukrainian SS. So what to do with them? He said at the time we didn’t know much about who the SS were , just a unit of the German Army. They never encountered them in North Africa or Italy. Tito sent a delegation asking for the SS to be sent back to Yugoslavia to face war crimes? A few days passed after the CO received orders from London to send the SS to a cage controlled by the Western Allies. This is all in my fathers regimental war diaries at the National Archives London UK. Months went by, when the stories of the concentration and death camps become knowledge, and the part that the SS played in war crimes. Questions were asked by soldiers , why did we not send these criminals to Tito. Well the new enemy were the USSR after all.

He omits to say that prior to wwII it was Galicia and western Ukraine where most pogroms against Jews took place. That in the mass murder of Jews in Babyn Yar, Kiev , there were Ukrainians wearing the same uniform as the Germans herding Jews to their death… that was in Sept 1941… 3 years prior to the formal creation of the 14th division.

I would like to add my grandfather’s story to this. He grew up on a farm outside Lviv. Everyone rejoiced when Germany pushed the Soviet Union out and saw them as liberators. But after a while my grandfather and his friends realized Germany was no better than the USSR. He told me at one point he and his friends blew up a rail line supplying the German army. One morning he was going to take a cow to market but his mom told him not to go because they were rounding up any man they could find to replenish the army. I believe it was around mid to late 1944. He ignored her and left with the cow. As he approached the bridge to the village it was manned by two German soldiers. One soldier hit him in the groin with the butt of his rifle. My grandfather then doubled over in pain and the soldiers dragged him and threw him in the back of the truck. They took him to a makeshift prison behind bars with others. His mother heard this and visited him before he was taken further away. He apologized to her for not listening to her and she kissed him through the bars and gave him some bread. That was the last time he ever saw his family (until 40 years later). Later that day they were ordered to disrobe and get showered and inspected. Still naked they stood in a line and a soldier would go to each man and mark a number between 1 and 4. I think my grandfather got marked with a number 2 but I don’t quite remember. Then at the end of the line there was a pile of old clothes and he was ordered to find something to wear. It was old, dirty, and the pants were so loose he found a rope to fashion into a belt. Then they were loaded up into trains, my grandfather said it smelled of feces and death. When the train stopped the doors opened and they were shown a concentration camp. He described the people in the camp as the living dead, they were nothing but skin and bones begging for food. Then a German officer told my grandfather and everyone else on the trains to either fight for Germany or go into the camp. My grandfather said everyone in the train who hadn’t already fainted at the site of the concentration camp were either were paralyzed by fear or soiled themselves. My grandfather and many others decided not to go into the concentration camp. The train then took them away to a military training camp. The first chance he and some others could they tried to escape. They were captured again and thrown into a barn and given nothing but a small piece of bread and vodka to drink so they were too drunk and weak to escape until they were deemed compliant. Then he received training as a panzer grenadier. After training they taken west by train. He said he saw the skyline of Prague from the rail tracks. After that they would march by foot from town to town battle to battle. During battles they had him and others dig trenches and foxholes. Before they would march into a town they were ordered to change their uniforms from old worn uniforms into brand new, clean, and shiny uniforms. After they were paraded through a certain city they were ordered to take off the clean uniforms into old uniforms again. One time the uniform he changed into had a bullet hole in it. During one of the final battles of the war he was injured (shot in the arm) and passed out during the retreat. He woke up in a field hospital. At one point shortly after a fighter plane was firing on the compound. He helped others pull out other wounded on stretchers to show the pilot it was a hospital and then the shooting stopped. Years later when watching a documentary he would recognize the plane as a Mustang. He along with others remained there not sure what to do. One morning everyone woke up and all the German officers were gone. Word spread that the Soviets were coming and killing any Ukrainian they found or sending them to the gulags and the only way to survive was to surrender to the Allies. So they ran until they reached the Allies. He was able to stay in Munich learn English, get a sponsor and immigrate to America as a refugee. He never mentioned to me about any war crimes. Not saying that division didn’t in some way take part in atrocities but I don’t believe he took part in them. He was honest to me about when he killed people and only mentioned soldiers. For as long as I knew him while he was alive he was a caring man and from what I could tell never held prejudice against anyone. When he described the concentration camp there was genuine grief in his voice. Is there any context to the image at 10:09? Because I think I see him in this picture.

Before this year, Moscow acknowledged 5 million. Since Putin is a communist, one cannot accept that without a great deal of skepticism. Some offices in Ukraine laughed at those figures and put forth 20 + million, as many in the country were buried in the country, in unmarked graves. Most historians figure the numbers are somewhere in between Moscow’s and Kyiv’s.

The Galician Division was cleared of war crimes by several International Inquiries at intervals over decades. Ukrainians joined up as it was very clear that the Division was created to fight the Russians on the Eastern Front and not be used against the Allies. It may suit a particular narrative that Ukrainians were inspired by Adolf Hitler and his vision of the Third Reich rather than their desire to achieve independence as fought for by previous generations.
Ukrainians have always maintained that all war criminals be brought to justice. Any public debate in the pursuit of truth on this issue should hear Ukrainian voices marginalised for decades .

It was the allies and Soviet communists that committed war crimes.

(Of 20 million Soviet war dead, half were killed by their own communist government.) The Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) did not "fight alongside the Germans." Sometimes the anti-communist Ukrainians and others had similar interest against the communist positions, but the UPA did not ally itself. The UPA was busy fighting against the Sicherheitsdienst (SD), the Einsatzgruppen, the NKVD, Red Brooms, Stalin's Children, communist-financed criminal gangs.

We Canadians, as usual, are humliated by Justin Trudeau. The problem is that he will never resign, never, no matter how incompetent he appears to be.
