Kurt modifies a customer's fuel tank to fit in an older model truck. The customer cut the end off the tank, and Kurt welded a polyethylene cap onto the end to seal it.

We used polyethylene rod and ribbon (www.polyvance.com/Polyethylene-1/) and a polyethylene sheet (www.polyvance.com/Polyethylene-Sheets-1/5010-4/)

How would you do it if it was Cross-linked polyethylene (PEX, XPE, XLPE) for example

You can't do a fusion repair. You have to use an airless plastic welder to make an adhesive-like repair.
