    Honestly both versions are S Tier material tho the animated version may not be as impactful as the OG it was still solid.

      Agreed. Personally I like asshole daddy for this. I have a feeling it's going to be spun around into a more impactful and emotional moment later

      Once he realizes the title is for real and how important Whitestone is, he will be forced to change his mind. Besides..Vex is kind of a collecter of titles😁.

      Mainly because in the game Percy seemed more cocky, making it more of a burn, where as the show you could hear the seriousness in his voice.

      True, but I think the Amazon Prime adaptation establishes that Vex'ahlia is _done_ trying to be _appease and downplay Syldor's abusive behavior_ and is _no longer_ going to let Syldor have this _toxic, cruel hold_ over her. And it almost seems like Syldor _realizes this_ and his retort of walking away and saying not to bother him again until they show him the Fenthras Bow and he'll give them "the welcome they think they deserve" could _very well_ be Syldor's attempt to save face.

    I think one important difference is that in the show it was the first time (I assume) twins met their father after they left him, in the campaign twins already had their first awful interaction with the dad (granted it was before the stream), so I think it was important for the show to clearly establish just how much of a dick Syldor is (and I remember him being a bit more soft in the campaign) so it would make Vex's conflicted feelings even more interesting. Also in the campaign they pretty much resolved their arc with the dad with this interaction, but in the show we clearly going to get some kind of resolution later.

      I’ll be very disappointed if he isn’t in S3. If this is the grog, vax and scanlan season. Next season is going to be Keyleth and Vex.
      It’ll be revealed that Thordak killed Vex and Vax’s mother and vex will need to confront her father again and tell him off for what he did.
      Keyleth will have her own antagonist to face….

      Some deviations are so off it catches me off guard, like how cold daddy Vassar has been or how they changed the dynamics of other situations. I don't hate it though.

    While the original was a fun mic drop moment, this version I think works better narratively. Conveys the same meaning for Percy’s development, fits more in line with Syldors established character and shows that him attacking Percy is what pushes Vex to finally rebuke him. There’s also been no real indication in the show that a title would be especially meaningful to Vex, so instead its not the title but rather the act of Percy standing up for her.

    I see everyone in the comments with their opinions, and not all the changes will hit everyone the same some may love all the changes or some may only like some & that's fine I'm just honestly grateful we have an animated show at all and if the show can make me smiles and have a good time's then I can count myself lucky to have both the og stream & the show.

  • @bessieburnet9816
    @bessieburnet9816 Год назад +52

    The animated show adapted it well in a way that effectively serves Vex's character development of that episode, that no matter what happens, she is worth more than her father's approval.
    However, I prefer the original, because there is actually pay off for what Percy does. It's actually earnt, instead of being brushed off like nothing and making him look like a try hard.

    • @Sir_Poohheart
      @Sir_Poohheart Год назад +5

      Honestly, that’s one of my largest gripes with season 2. Percy had a lot of great moments that bolster his character in the archs adapted for it, but in the animated series just about all of those moments are either removed or reframed in a way that undermine and belittle him.
      I suspect it’s deliberate as a way of heaping failures onto him so that he has more room for growth and redemption in the coming seasons, but it’s still incredibly irksome that they’re doing it by basically mocking him and making him seem like an insecure know-it-all try-hard, rather than the fact that he’s still submerged in abject darkness and self-loathing from his intense Briarwoods trauma.

    Honestly I much prefer the og version, the newer one does fit in the more condensed story the show has to tell in the way their doing it, but in the og Syldor got to be a bit more of an actual character then just the douche former father, I mean he was that in the og as well but he's character was also beyond that.

  • @phillipgathright8001

    The animated version kind of sh!ts on Percy's big moment.

    • @LykosShadowmane
      @LykosShadowmane Год назад +21

      Eh I thought it was more in keeping with the reality of the situation. It's a grandiose gesture from Percy, but it means little to Syldor yet the world to Vex. Percy's name doesn't carry the weight he thinks it does a lot of the time, as shown in previous episodes, and Syldor retorting back at Percy drives Vex to take action against her father, which I think is a nice touch given that the show is focusing on her being desperate for his approval.

    • @bessieburnet9816
      @bessieburnet9816 Год назад +3

      Yeah, there isn't any pay off. It ruins the impact of him saying that. No more pay off of Syldor begrudgingly respecting the daughter he disrespected all her life, with yet a tinge of pride. Here, Percy just looks like a pathetic tryhard and it fizzles out. However, writing wise, it does serves Vex's character development. No matter what, she is worth more as a person than what her father thinks.

      I don’t particularly mind. I mean sure his moment wasn’t a big mic drop anymore and that kinda sucks. But from the start this show was an adaptation, not a translation. We should expect the plot to just be heavily referential at best. Not 1-for-1 remakes.

    • @calvinjohnson6242
      @calvinjohnson6242 Год назад +2

      @Tin Watchman That is the problem. I’m sure they tried making it a big moment in the writers room, and couldn’t make it work. So they scrapped trying to make it important.

    • @RoninXDarknight
      @RoninXDarknight Год назад +1

      Honestly I think the scene doesn't work as well without the full corresponding interaction between them the previous night discussing why Vex didn't want to go into the city. There was a condensed version in the animated series but it was a bit too rushed to be as impactful.
      That aside, as Percy later explains to Vax, while raising Vex's status in her father's eyes was a nice potential bonus, the act was more about helping Vex see and understand her own self-worth...Percy was facilitating it but it was never about him. To that end the animated version was a pretty decent rendition.

      These last batch of 3 kinda of have to same feeling for me as 4,5,6 of S1. The pacing was super weird I didn’t love the dialog as much and some things that should’ve been impactful just… werent… idk this in no way tarnishes the last batch (S2 4,5,6) those three were damn near perfect. And I’m very very excited for the series finale but… still a little disappointed with the feywild and some of the grog stuff. Idk I still feel like we could have waited till S3 to deal with the feywild

      Things that bothered me thus far but I'm willing to look past. : Ravens slumber getting changed to be a gift from their friends instead of in the coffin with the armour. (Saw zero point in that change)
      Loosing the fact that grog killed the corrupt tree hugger. (That shit would've been perfect animated, and paired well with Percy's I fell out of the window moment)
      And lastly. I feel as though vex kinda Looses her narrative driven reasons for the title moment to be as impressive.
