What people don't know about Michael Bates: He's done A LOT of charity work by taking long walks.
Promoting the Olympic Truce, which is meant to be a period during the weeks of the Olympics and Paralympics where athletes are guaranteed safe passage and the idea of world peace (cough cough Russia broke this truce three times in 2008, 2014, and now 2022 respectively), he walked from Olympia in Greece all the way to Westminster before the 2012 Summer Olympics. In 2013 on London 2012's anniversary, he walked from London to Derry to raise for Save the Children in Syria. He raised £50,000/over $65,000 over the course of a month. In 2014, he walked from London to Berlin, helping raise £41,000/over $53,500. In 2015, he walked ANOTHER thousand miles in China from Beijing to Hangzhou for the Red Cross. Finally in 2016, to promote the Olympic Truce like he did for London 2012, he walked from Buenos Aires (2018 Summer Youth Olympics host) to Rio de Janeiro for TWO THOUSAND miles and raised funds for UNICEF. *The dude's a force to be reckoned with, worthy of his title of Lord*

Not really. British Law only allows MPs and Lords to resign upon death or appointment to office of profit under the crown. It's not even the Prime Minister who approves resignation, it's up to the Chancellor of Exchequer (though the Chancellor does answer to the Prime Minister).
They literally created fictional appointments to allow MPs to resign, but you don't just go to the house and say "I offer my resignation." You apply for an appointment to these fictional offices.

Its also a soul crushing thing to do as any callcenter worker can testify so at least if the people pay them they should demand that their time isn't spent doing something that corrodes the character of a person.
