Possibly the most difficult riff on guitar. Without this explanation I would be completely lost, practiced the warmups to learn thumping for like a month before I attempted to learn the riff. Thank you
It's definitely up there in difficulty! I'm so happy my breakdown was helpful and my exercises enabled you to start learning it! Thanks for commenting and letting me know too!! :)
Im relieved to know a more experienced guitarist considers this riff a serious challenge. I bought a guitar to learn thumping after years of not playing and I got Tosin's thump course from guitar messenger and this video is the perfect accompaniment. You go into detail on the nuances of the hands and fingerings and have brought some clarity to this riff for me. Thank you so much!
@@eightmetalstrings Update: I've been practicing it and making some decent progress! The part that I have the hardest time getting the rhythm locked in is the speed burst. I have to say you did an amazing job, man. It really seems to match how it was recorded. I did have transcriptions (including the official one and even a revised version of it from someone on reddit) but I was never sure if it's actually correct and that was blocking me mentally from attempting to learn it. Your amazing tutorial fixed that. And you identified very well the potential problem area (like the speed burst or consistency when hitting the I M A part).
@@hastesoldat thanks for the update! So cool you're putting the time into this one. And yes, that speed burst is brutal until it starts to feel like one fluid motion instead of so many individual plucks. I appreciate your honest (and kind!) review of the tutorial. I spent tons of time breaking this one down so it's super rewarding to hear it's paying off for someone.
Ooooo baby, great stuff! I love how you leave nothing to chance, you share every detail you've discovered to get your students to the finish line. Thank you!
Amazing video, such a detailed explanation of the nuances! Really appreciate your hard work. Now it's time for me to finally attempt learning this monstrosity 😅
Youre one of the best 8 string channel. You do a super good job at what you do. Please check out Rondo music man. Imagine an 8 string with a flaoting tremelo. Id love to see you use one.
Nice man, I have the Thump! course from guitar messenger and they have this riff. I learned it a while ago, but it didnt feel right.. ill check this out! Would love a chat again soon ☺ currently enjoying a Rogers Geisha from Rogue Wave ☕😋😉
@@AaronFordMusic yes, was thinking about how you're doing recently! Would love to chat again soon. And I still haven't tried a geisha but I think I'm about ready. I hope yours is floral and amazing!
Hey! Thank you, I appreciate it :) I use 9.5 to 74's. I think it is basically what it came with. I tried going up to an 80 but it just felt to thick and the tone wasn't as snappy.
Oui alors c’est très bien mais avant d’être juste franc peut-être est-il nécessaire de comprendre soi-même et les autres d’abord. Je ressens ce sentiment beaucoup à propos de ce type de vidéo, ironiquement…

You're so welcome! I'm so happy to be such a help. And yes, this riff is truly and honestly a real kick in the ass.
Ok. No excuses now. I will learn this finally!
I believe in you!

Oh man, thank you! This is easily one of the best channels for guitar learning in general, not only 8 string specific.
So kind of you say, thank you! Glad you're finding my lessons useful!
This is THE rif. It took such a long time for me to finally be able to play it, but it was oh so satisfying! Amazing lesson!
Thanks Leo! I agree. It's like the only thumping riff that matters 😂
Appreciate your teaching style.
You are my favorite content creator for learning how to use an 8 string guitar !
What a clear explanation. Thank you for all this effort to teach everyone
You're very welcome!

What an amazing tutorial!!! What string gauge do you use for F# standard and drop E tunings for aal? I own a larada too so it’s really good reference.

Does someone have a somnarium tutorial floating around
Not that I know, but I can check it out
@@eightmetalstrings thanks. I haven’t found anything in the past 2 years except ultimate guitar and some sketchy sites
what guitar is this?
It's Tosin Abasi's Signature model: Larada Master Series
