Come along and see the shop where the magic happens. Tools work in progress, along with all the hand fabrication process, designs. past work. His Father Luk du le Marcel started the business and he now carries on the legacy. Incredible workmanship , these people are proper artisanes , not many of them around now a days . It go to show how far one can go with a wooden stump and a English wheel
Thanks Mike.
Dude…..it’s Austin Healey and Aston Martin…. thanks, just had to get that out of my system Good video 👍
No, it's 100% original. Of course anything styled from late 50 racers will be similar.
Oops, yeah, that saying it wrong drove me crazy.
Wow, world class work ! How special was that, that you got to go to his shop 😎
Hi Jimmy. I don't know much about the production ones(356), but certain the racing ones. Some were only .040" thick. And they were gas welded. If you enjoy this stuff, search Christopher Runge.
4:53, thats a airplane.
Luc de Ley is one of the world's top shapers. If youve seen any of Rick Dore's fabulous customs, Luc likely made the body.
if you want to see how this stuff is done there is a guy on youtube named Wray Schelin who makes videos about it, the name of his channel is Wray Schelin's ProShaper Workshop,
That's who I thought of too, hey we got the same talent on East Coast...love Wray's accent...
Pro Shaper is the best place to take your first metalshaping class.
MIKE ITS NOT AUSTIN MARTIN ITS ASTON
100% original. Unavoidably similar to many cars from the late 50s.
Just visited the Marcel shop today, impressive.
Compare what it would cost to build the dies and punch presses to form those parts compared to some sheets of metal and one's experience,
she is sweet, neat, and hard to beat, Mr Marcel is the Master of Disaster, good work my friend. What I never will be able to understand is how can a painting be worth hundreds of Millions yet this type of artwork pays peanuts in comparison, shouldn't it be the other way around???
hi Mike, I've been following you on youtube for a while now. And actually find all your movie interesting. also what you show today. How beautiful!
WoW !😮
Mike love it true craftsman
So is this like a kit car?
No, a kit is something you buy and assemble. These are one off cars, like coach built cars but almost everything is custom.
I’ve heard about that guy. Dominic Chinea on RUclips manufactures the new Ranalah English wheels and he’s into all that stuff. Fascinating.
Luk Du Le Marcel is his dad.
I remember around 2012, a ‘32 Ford was shipped to our shop, from Marcel, for the SEMA show, it was just the hand made body and rolling chassis, no interior, the best thing was looking up under the roof and seeing the heat zone from tig welding the panel, it was steel, one sheet corner was at a 45 degree angle to the windshield, I always wanted to ask him about that, I saw it finished at SEMA, the doors were flush mounted, it was widened and lengthened.
Truly incredible, I particularly like Delahaye/Auburn style cars in the photos, absolute works of art!
truly rolling sculptures here... you should get to the Auburn museum if you have not yet already....
Hey Mike ! The stump is to throw bean bags on it takes the shocks of the pounding ?
yea i think he just puts the metal on there and starts pounding. like a shrinking dolly.
When he hammers into the bowl carved in the stump it forms a tuck(big ripple) in the metal, then when he hammers the tuck into the bowl it shrinks the metal.
@@thomasollinger7922 the original Porsche were hand made ?
The red one is a Drake arbor press, with a small one on the back
yea all the tools I would like if I had a bigger shop like that.
The blue "C" shaped machines are Eckold shrinkers. Pretty much Luc's primary forming machine.
This shop brings back so many memories of all the years I was an Airframe mechanic.....he is definitely a master of his craft
Very nice shop. That guy is amazing.
I remember watching American Hotrod and Marcel's did a lot of cars for Boyd. The Alumatub stands out.
Yea His dad...now he has taken over. Great guy I will be there again on the next open house.
Master metalshaper Craig Naff was also at Boyd's. Craig built the body on Cadzilla.
Amazing! A ture artist.
I remember old tv show boyd had. These guys did aluminum body for him. Amazing work
Luc worked for Boyd.
Great shop!
I'm laughing this guy talking clearly has limited nolage of cars, he's calling an astin Martin ,a Austin Martin 😂😂😂😂
Only in California do you get that kind of talent! Not that there aren’t artisan else where. It’s the clients and the car culture there. Very cool stuff! Thanks Mike!
Check some British ones on the Dominic Chinea channel on RUclips.
@@vayabroder729 yea there are several overseas. but probably one of the best around here.
You also have Ron Covell, Lazze, Matt Salamanca, and others in CA. And at least a dozen or more spread around the US. Metalshaping has a made a resurgence with masters like Kevin Masson, Mike Wagner, Jeff Fournier, Wray Schelin and others(myself) offering classes.
Thanks for sharing this man's work.
You bet
