Great review. I’m so shaken by it and grieving over the suffering characters I adored. Lovely to share it
Sheesh you did an excellent job reviewing this novel without spoiling it at all! Thank you -on the list for next month for me👏🏽
Just finished it. Wow! Immediately listening to it again.
I had the same reaction after finishing it. Edward P. jones is an amazing writer. Thank you for this terrific review.
You are very eloquent and I loved what you have to say about this book. I have begun reading it this morning
Thank you! Hope you enjoy it!
Bravo, Shawn! I knew if anyone could put it into words, the MANIAC could, lol. Thanks for the buddy read and the excitement you brought to the whole experience. Yes to my own reread. Un abrazo, amigo.
It was a great experience!
This was a wonderful testimony to the feel of this novel. I almost don't want to pick it up now myself for fear of not matching your reaction!
I’ll still love you even if you don’t love it :)
Just finished reading The Known World. I agree with what you say, it is a heartrending novel. Some of the scenes in the book are so vivid that they are certain to stay with the reader. I like how you say that Jones makes the characters morally ambiguous to add to their complexity. Mildred was maybe the only one who was morally outstanding, but maybe Celeste was too. Very helpful insights into the novel!
Wow, thank you for the generous comments! I am so glad the book spoke to you so deeply too! Since reading this novel, I've also read his short story collection Lost in the City, which I also liked.
I'd be pleased if you kept watching my videos and commented again. :)
What a great review! Sometimes the most glowing reviews are the hardest to communicate, but you did a magnificent job. Thanks.
Wow, thank you so much!
Shawn, you are fantastic!
Wow, thank you! :)
Thanks. It's confirmed that this is my next read.
Hope you enjoy it!
I bought this book from what you’ve said and I can’t wait to read it! I love tomes. Thankyou Shawn I know I will love this novel.
Awesome! Let me know how you make out with it!
This has been on my list a long time. Listening to you has moved it way up.
It's unforgettable. Do let me know how you get along with it!
This is one of those books I've known about forever and just have never managed to read. I so want to remedy that.
I think you might like it too!
Such a wonderful tribute to a wonderful novel.
Right back at ya!
I finally finished! Great review, Shawn!
I’m so glad that you ended up enjoying it! And we both know that “enjoy“ is not the right word.
Wow, high praise indeed.
🥰
I will need to find that! Good to hear you actually enjoyed a book. I'm more accustomed to your bail videos.
Hee hee - every so often I like to balance things out a bit
You did a great job. You gave a great sense of the book and the reasons why you thought it was so powerful.
What'd I say, remember, Brian, about trying to get Alex to read this?!!?
