The staff-like weapon in the video looks really cool. Could I use 3/4 inch pvc pipe to make it, or would you reccomend 1 inch diamater instead? (It would be roughly 6ft long)

    • @Allegora
      @Allegora  6 лет назад +1

-ΩmegaWolf- because you want it 6 feet I would definitely make it one inch. I have had one in both diameters and although a little heavier it is way more easily controlled due to less wobble/bend

    Hello.
I am interested to hear how you feel using boffers instead of latex weapons.
I would actually like to have a conversation from your point of view.

This is very dangerous larp fighting. I'd imagine there are allot of injures in this larp.

Aaronivoify you would be 100% mistaken. In fact we have less.

That's good to hear. I don't want to sound to negative because you all have a great attitude and a lot of passion for this hobby but...
1:56 The guys sword gets really close to the other guys face.
2:11 Run and jump with a thrust that is way to high and fell over with some of his weight pushing onto the other guys legs
2:43 Most of these swings are head height and if one hits it could potentially do some damage... or not depending if you hit on the foam or the lightly padded pole.
4:13 head shot to the chin with a thrust and a nut shot.
Ways i think you could improve so your fights look better and are safe.
first thing is to recognizing what a near miss is. An example of a near miss a strike that almost hits a head or a strike which is swung way to hard but doesn't hit.
Second thing is to no encourage near misses because it builds bad habit's. So if a head shot just misses and hits a shoulder do encourage that hit. Encourage safe hits.
Third thing is to avoid invading another players space like touching them or getting to close during combat. This is a huge issue with dual wielders because dual wielders get really close and flail and this attributes to most head shots in larp.
Fourth is sportsmanship. let players act out there damage and don't flail someone until they put there hand up and say "im dead". let them play out there damage.
Just because it didn't course and injury doesn't mean it won't eventually. Trust me.

I was actually about to say something similar and I've only been involved in larp for, as of tomorrow, 1 year.
While it's great you guys are having fun, clearly, the chances of someone getting seriously hurt is so high with your lack of rules for high hits and what most LARPs will rule as 'no-hit location' spots like groin, hands, feet and neck/head. Adding on, while I'm sure boffer weapons make thrusting a... tiny bit safer, it's clear you can still get very winded from them and a harder thrust, or an accident, could do more damage- hence why thrusting is banned in a lot of larps.
And as Aaron said in point 4, LARP is part roleplaying; it literally has it in the name. Acting out being hit if you have a health point (or loss of limb) system makes it more enjoyable for everyone, rather then this just looking like a 'who can hit you fastest' "sport" with no roleplaying and pretending at all.
By all means, if it's your own personal larp group have fun with how you want to play, but as far as teaching other larpers (based on your other videos), those people then coming to see this dangerous version of fighting may give them the wrong idea when they go into their own larp groups which have rules to prevent a lot of things that could potentially go very wrong in this video.

@@ShadoWolfozo thank your for watching and taking the time to comment. However in our nearly 8 years of being active we have NEVER had a serious injury. With hardly any minor injuries (which had came from environmentaly things like potholes and slippery grass) Our safety precautions go further than you may realize. We encourage all players who come on the field to wear protection such has cups and helmets as needed. Our role-playing videos on this channel and others have had by far the lowest views. We even took some down for this reason. We focus on what exictes people about joining and getting interested in LARP. That being said we are still a heavy combat based group as are the other top 3 LARPs in North America. There is no danger of being hurt as your presume, we have the tenure and statistics to prove this. That being said when such a time may come we will address the issue accordingly and improve safety standards if needed as we have always done even if just a precaution. Again thank you for your time.

Aaronivoify from watching this video as a person who does belegarth, dagorhir, Sca, and HEMA. I find that there is a lack of basic fighting skill, which is the major contributor to the hectic and dangerous conduct. Which leads to things like head, neck, and groin shots
