I've been watching those stoves for about 10 days on eBay and like you say for under $20 they seem hard to beat. You are the first to do a review and from what I see they are worth every penny. I for one don't care if they are made in China, there is no factory in Canada making them so it doesn't affect our industry certainly nothing like GM moving a plant to Mexico or off shore does. Thanks for another really good and through review. I think I will just go hit buy now by accident!!!
thank you for this video. I was in the same position. didn't want to spend a lot.of money on a wood gas stove, so after watching your video, I got myself one of those things. thanks!!
I always use mine with the flat sides of the pot holders up. All of my cups sit on it securely and it actually gives the stove more room to breath. It also makes it easier to feed the stove with a pot on it.
I have a light weight heat diffuser that I can put on my gasified stove so that I can put a small pan on it if needed. Love my stove and cooked with it very successfully. Great for camping, especially in CA where fires aren't allowed in pits due to fire hazard. Like this better than a charcoal grill. I have a enamelware plate that I put under the stove and set up on any picnic table. I've been using it to cook outside due to the heatwave we've been having cuz I don't want to heat up my house when I made dinner. Def taking it camping with me. A small grocery bag of twigs so far has cooked five pretty complete meals. One meal was a full pot of coffee, bacon, eggs and potatoes. Another was pasta and roasted vegetables with sage brown butter. Pot of rice and grilled veggies. Pancakes and eggs and bacon and coffee. It's a brilliant little invention
7:15 If you see this coming from your wood gas stove, you know you've loaded it wrong. The proper way is to have your large fuel on the bottom, stacked vertically, length about an inch below the gasification jets. Then place kindling on top of the fuel, and tinder on top of that. Light the tinder, the fire will burn from the top down. It will smoke just a little, until the air channel heats up and air starts flowing into the jets. That influx of fresh air at the top of the burn will completely reburn the smoke, and the fire will burn hot for upwards of twenty minutes with no more attention. The way you are building the fire is fine if you want to use a regular hobo stove, but not for a wood gas stove. 7:45 Gee, fire gets hot. Who would've thought? 11:20 What exactly will a canteen cup sit on? I've never seen any stand a canteen cup sits on steadily.
To hold items that fit between, I use a fan screen from a computer fits great and if you break off the little arms it will fit in the stove for transport.
+Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors One other thing on this type of stove is that they are made to be bundle loaded with the bigger pieces in the bottom put in vertically and then kindling and tender on top so it burns down and you get a cleaner and better burn.
Becouse this is made in stainless steel and its foldable not like your coffe can😂😆🤣. I bought a German wood gas stove and the build quality is fenomenal
Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors very interesting how it works, thank you for that information. Funny to see you with that knife as I just asked magnus andersson about it and if he was familiar with it and he said yes and that you had it now. That Mors pot seems to be alot bigger than I imagined.
it seems everybody uses these types of stoves wrong, you're meant to stack the wood vertically in the base, then make a little fire on top, the downdraft then pulls the fire down and slowly burns through the base wood when it's done right you get a much longer burn time
Just got mine in yesterday, I don't know much about camp stoves but this thing feels very well built. The walls or cylinders feel solid and for 20 bucks you definitely can't go wrong. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching. I've already been given a tip by a viewer on how to use it more efficiently and effectively. Now I'm excited to try it out! I'll do an update video.
i think you better to put the big wood on the bottom and then put some papper or small branch on the top,at last you light it from top and wait a moment...then the top holes will spit orange flame,it is wood gas burnning...thank for the video!
+lsd Liu since making this video I have found that by packing the wood in vertically to just below the gas jets then lighting the fire on top to get it going gives a long, consistent burn.
Try 'batch loading' your wood gas stove; you may find it more convenient due to less frequent fuel loading. The wood lighting & loading order demonstrated in the video would simply be reversed, e.g. instead of 1) tinder & 'bottom' light, 2) then kindling/small wood, 3) large wood, it'd be 1) ~70% large wood at bottom, 2) ~25% small wood/kindling, 3) then ~5% tinder at top and 'TOP' light -- think of the 'upside down fire' building technique, it's just placed in a small wood gas stove. Wood gas stoves are also known by the acronym TLUD (Top Lit Up-Draft) stoves.
Hi Mike. Excellent review, product and video! I own one of the named models of these, although I cant remember the make of it, sorry ("Old Timers Disease, I reckon"!). However, I would really love it if someone could make a rectangular version. Just like adding a wire grill frame to your normal camp fire, I think that a rectangular one, say about 1.5 to 2 times the size of a billy can, then it would open up so many more options. Especially if, as you said, a wire frame to sit on those support legs was either available or you made it yourself. When packed away in your back pack it would have a better shape, as well as the ability to use more than one item on it at a time. Say a pot and your metal cup, or two cups or whatever. Always assuming that a rectangular version would work anyway.
Informative review. I ordered one yesterday from Amazon, so I plan to make a video review of it in the next few days. From the reviews I have watched, I would say that you're spot on in thinking about folding in the pot stands when using smaller pots. As far as the canteen cup, they only seem to work well with a canteen cup stove. The odd shape makes 'em a bit awkward. :)
I'd like to buy this stove to compared to my solo stove it seems like it's really well-made and pretty rigid. I think maybe if you carried a piece of carbon felt with you in the top that might help with the scorching of the ground. Just my two cents thanks for putting out the video really appreciate it take care
+Shane Coffey Brother Shane, I'd hold off buying this just yet...although it is fun to play with, it does not keep the soot off the pots. I have one and thus far have seen that by the time it starts to work it has a very limited time actually cooking...so more fuel is added causing it to start to soot up again. Of course I could just be messing it all up trying to keep a flame and not properly working it.
Gus1911 :Becouse this is made in stainless steel and its foldable not like your coffe can😂😆🤣. I bought a German wood gas stove and the build quality is fenomenal
Hello William...the best way with this stove is to fill it tight with small pellet size chunks of wood right up to just under the vents at the top of the stove and light from the top. This will give you a long, efficient burn with no need to add fuel. With cat litter wood pellets a burn time of an hour plus can be achieved and you can simmer on the coals in the stove once the flames have dissipated.
Nothing wrong with this stove at all! Why fork over 110 bucks for a Solo Stove Campfire when this 25 buck gasifier wood stove works just as well or better? It's got a better three point pot support system.

I don't think you will regret it. It works really well.
I bought that stove some time back but I haven't used it yet. I'm glad I didn't buy junk. The price seemed to good to be real. Thanks for the demo.
It's not junk. Make sure you put something down underneath it though. Like a piece of tinfoil. Otherwise whatever you put it on will burn.
Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors I use an old 12 inch pizza pan under mine. Slides right down the inside back or my backpack.

That’s a great idea
I have one of these and I love it. I keep it with my BOB.
It works really well doesn't it?
Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors Works well with alcohol burner, and Sterno also.

+Ray Hutfles I think someone else had mentioned that. It's an excellent idea.

Thanks for the review. I've never used a stove like that other than making one out of an old coffee can. Looks to be worth every penny.
I just tried a recommendation from another viewer last night on how to load it and burn it. It lasted almost 1/2 hour unattended. Just burning sticks.
It definitely is.
Becouse this is made in stainless steel and its foldable not like your coffe can😂😆🤣. I bought a German wood gas stove and the build quality is fenomenal
will definitely get one...thanks for the vid.
I have an upcoming review of the Silverfire Scout. It's more expensive but it has some worthwhile upgrades.
Thanks i just bought one..cool
+v melo it's hard to beat for the pruce

It's a good knife. Big for a folder but highly capable. The Mors pot is tall but it's light since this is the aluminum model.

It's tough to beat for the price.
Great review, thanks 4 sharing. Cheers, Marc

I love the concept of this stove and you might be able to get a piece of thin metal grate at Home Depot for the top.
I'll definitely be looking into that Jon.
Can you fold the legs in for the canteen cup?
great video just subbed you're right about these stoves I recently purchased the solo stove i love it thanks for sharing
+Amra Survival thank you!
Dang it, now I have to get one
Well use my link so I get credit!
Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors I didnt know that, very good to know, I will

I found an identical version that came with a grill top. Grill a burger or support a smaller container. Under $17 Canway brand. Amazon of course.

Thanks for the information. I found out about that after talking with Todd Albi at Silverfire.
It definitely makes for a much longer continuous burn.
+Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors Oh wow!... nice.
Great and cheap! Just ordered one for about 16 USD! China stainless steel can't go wrong. Cheers
It's hard to beat for the money.
Can you just cook on the pot stand with the arms folded all the way in? I can't tell if they lay flush or not.
You could, but it would be hard to refuel and I don't think it would be very stable.
wobbly potlay two iron tent pegs across

+Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors If only! Only thing I am good at making with metal is a mess. Usually a molten one, lol :)
i USE COMPRESSED HARDWOOD PELLETS. Load once and burns for about an hour. No feeding chores. Much esier to use.
lixada make them [ i got mine for £10 .... but they were originally a US product silverline i think

The carbon felt idea is a really good one! I'll have to try it.

That is a clone of the silverfire scout.
I was on their site this morning. It looks like they have some very worthwhile upgrades.
But the Silverfire is substantially more expensive, like 75 to 100 for a package.
Nice review Mike. I wonder if something like a computer fan grill would fit on that as a grill?
I don't know but that's a great idea. I'll have to see if I can find one.
Just fold the pot stand legs in, and they will all fit then.....Der.....
Gus1911 :Becouse this is made in stainless steel and its foldable not like your coffe can😂😆🤣. I bought a German wood gas stove and the build quality is fenomenal
It looks like you have to remove your pot to be able to add fuel. That's certainly not a deal breaker, but definitely a drawback.
+William Burr you do, but I don't find it to be too much of an issue.

It's a solid choice. I like the pot stand on the Silverfire Scout better but it's more expensive .
Mike, what is the brand name of the large pot? Moores? Looks like a nice size pot.
Yes, it's a Mors pot. I got it from Self Reliance Outfitters a while back. This one is aluminum. I like it a lot.
I got an Esbit alcohol stove, I am assuming it can work well with one of those?
It should work fine. I've actually heard that the stove will gasify the alcohol!
Too much blah blah blah
