    I don't care about the copycat stuff, the main selling point is that Skechers are actually REALLY comfortable. They're times more comfortable than high-end sneakers, for a fraction of the price.

    What people who are into sneakers an fashion often forget is that there are millions of Plane Janes and Regular Johns out there, who couldn't care less if there is a swoosh or three stripes or an S on their shoes or about the history of a brand. They just buy what's least expensive and most comfortable. To me the worst thing about Skechers is that they always look cheap.

    Footwear designer here - this strategy of copying other brands but selling it for cheaper is one of the most successful and common strategies in the industry - It sucks and makes the sneaker industry so boring , but it’s so damn effective at making money, most footwear brands do it now.

  • @gabbylikeskicks
    @gabbylikeskicks 10 months ago +356

    Respect to Skechers. Caring for old parents made me appreciate the slip ins and the fact that they copy popular silhouettes and add hands-free tech slip ins is insane. Not all slip ins look like sock shoes or mesh. There are work boot esque leather shoes, casual lifestyle kicks with air bubbles, smart casual leather shoes with white midsoles and gum outsoles, canvas shoes. And most of these slip-ins have faux lacing making them look soo good and range from 50 to 100 usd, machine washable with memory foam insole
    Though I'm more of a nike and jordans guy, I will never hate on skechers when it comes to hands free shoes for the elderly and pwd

    • @TOden4
      @TOden4 10 months ago +12

      Skechers copied a few other brands that came out with the hands free slip in first. The "heel cup" that is used to slide your foot in wears out faster than the shoe itself. Then you'll be left with possible cutting to your achellies and heel and calling customer service begging for help only to be told hey mail them in at your expense. lol I used to love telling customers that and hearing them bitch and complain

    • @gabbylikeskicks
      @gabbylikeskicks 10 months ago +11

      @TOden4 my parents constantly use skechers for about 2 years now. The slip in tech still holds like it was brand new. And if it comes to that point where the foam gives, I'd buy them a new pair of skechers slip ins

    • @caseysmith544
      @caseysmith544 10 months ago +4

      @TOden4 But that brand only makes in a few styles mainly with a wool upper that is basically thick felt, sorry I forget the name of brand but they have some dumb marketing that has it so I would never buy them.

      100% true. No one will accuse Sketchers wearers of “trying to be cool.” They probably just want an affordable comfortable shoe that doesn’t look offensive

    • @fredsvlogandreviews5867
      @fredsvlogandreviews5867 10 months ago

      @benbauer7866 True and I am a long time wearer of sketcher. Honestly up until i found videos like this one I had no idea sketcher was even doing this. I bought Sketchers because the price is good, they are super comfortable and they last a long time. Also after trying other brands for the past few years I still find sketchers to be one of the most comfortable shoes I have warn. Seems hard to find anything more comfortable. Half if not all of my family would agree with the comfort. I remember recently My aunt got a different brand of shoes and hated them and ended up just going back to sketchers. I should mention there are only 2 brands i like more than sketchers and that is splay and jim green.

    • @donaldneo4317
      @donaldneo4317 6 months ago

      Its different whereas Designer brands get "inspiration" from other brands but Sketcher copy tech like Nike's Air Bubble, Reebok's pump which these company spends millions of dollars doing R&D.

    • @ZhiyuanMa-k2q
      @ZhiyuanMa-k2q 3 months ago

      @donaldneo4317 And the designers are rewarded handsomely for their efforts if they actually produce something good. No one buying Sketchers was gonna pay for the designer stuff anyways.
      Plus they’re shoes, not jet engine turbine blades…

    Retired copycat athletic shoe designer here. Started out at KangaROOS which was a legit brand with its own schtick. Remember the pockets to hold your keys? Moved to different companies who had a huge
    business knocking off the top selling branded athletic styles for Walmart, Target, Payless and other discount retailers. I was really good at getting the look as close as possible without getting us sued. We worked with the company lawyer to make sure we were safe. Espionage helped us get the latest catalogues from Nike and Reebok et al before the debut of the next season’s lines. We’d have our copies out simultaneously with the brands. I’d stay up all night sketching the knockoffs of what would undoubtedly be the hottest style. One of my Jordan knock offs was even patented but I was only paid $1 courtesy of my employer to retain the rights. My best selling knock off was a Nike “Dad” basic style that sold so well at Walmart - a million pairs - that Nike was furious and they tried to launch their own dumbed down versions specially for Walmart. But they didn’t have our manufacturing know how to produce affordable versions. So we triumphed over the hottest brand of all.

    “The trends only continued for the brand as they introduced Skechers D'Lites in 2007”

    • @caseysmith544
      @caseysmith544 10 months ago +6

      D'lites were originally made in an all white for the Hooters girls in 2006--2007, designed for them as at the time the Reebok model they wore was becoming hard to find, some kind of all white leather Reebok high top version of the running shoe they made. This was because the other shoes were hard to find as a high top version of the leather Runner until more recently.

    I'm a retailer and I've got to love Skechers. They give the people what they want at way better pricing than the competition often times. They can even go high-tech. Yep, they pioneered and made the first whole midsoles of a material they call Hyper-Burst. It's a seriously good stable cushioning material and I've noticed a small group of serious runners have found it. I know there's some "cool" types that will never be seen wearing Skechers and it makes me chuckle because they're missing some great shoes. What also makes me chuckle is exactly what you are alluding to here. They'll take one of the big names silhouettes and run with their shoe that often gets the moniker of being "a clone". Pretty fearless marketing on their part.

Now that he's old, he finds Sketchers slips easy to put on and take off, and have enough cushioning and arch support that they've straightened out his back just by walking. They've helped eliminate pain in his hips and knees too.

    A few good things that Skechers did is they were the first to adopt 'Nitrogen Infused' midsole with their HyperBurst series of high performance running sneakers which is now being used by top brands like Puma, Brooks.

    They also made a shoe that resembles the brandblack rare metal 2. Skechers will steal designs from any company not just the giant ones.

    I dont know if its just me but I buy nikes for their style, but I wear my sketchers for their comfort. There are some nike shoes that are comfortable, but most models are too narrow, sketchers on the otherhand, every pair I have has been comfortable from the first step-in.

    In a trip in China before 2020 I have seen a brand that it was identical 1: 1 to New Balance called New Bunren something. Exact same models, logo everything, they didn't even try to hide it, they even had chain stores in many b level shopping areas or malls. But in a recent trip back there all these disappeared. Lawsuits and new copyright laws made them go away but who knows. Funny thing is that even the orinal NB brand is nowwhere to be found now.

    I think that what has helped sketchers is actually that they carry great work and anti-slip shoes and have a whole section dedicated to it. Most of my coworkers wear sketchers as they are also very comfortable. And they aren't cheap.
