I don't care about the copycat stuff, the main selling point is that Skechers are actually REALLY comfortable. They're times more comfortable than high-end sneakers, for a fraction of the price.
@tuanas458 He didn't say they aren't, he said he didn't care. How is that hard to understand? Are you disgusted by car companies manufacturing cars 100% copying the strategy of Ford's model T?
That's my biggest gripe about them. They are priced sometimes more expensive than Nikes and Adidas where I live (Malaysia). They are very comfortable though.
I didn’t know about this history but I have multiple Sketchers, Adidas and Nike and the sketchers are the ones I can wear through my 13hour shifts and not feel like I ran a marathon all that time when I get home 🤷🏽♀️
What people who are into sneakers an fashion often forget is that there are millions of Plane Janes and Regular Johns out there, who couldn't care less if there is a swoosh or three stripes or an S on their shoes or about the history of a brand. They just buy what's least expensive and most comfortable. To me the worst thing about Skechers is that they always look cheap.
I don't think sneaker heads really care what plain Jane's and John's wear on their feet....if anything it just makes it easy to know what type of person you're dealing with in any given situation
i don't mind sketchers business plan ... i work at a school in a lower income neighborhood .. i see a lot kids wearing sketchers, if that's what the parents can afford, i have no problem with it
Footwear designer here - this strategy of copying other brands but selling it for cheaper is one of the most successful and common strategies in the industry - It sucks and makes the sneaker industry so boring , but it’s so damn effective at making money, most footwear brands do it now.
Respect to Skechers. Caring for old parents made me appreciate the slip ins and the fact that they copy popular silhouettes and add hands-free tech slip ins is insane. Not all slip ins look like sock shoes or mesh. There are work boot esque leather shoes, casual lifestyle kicks with air bubbles, smart casual leather shoes with white midsoles and gum outsoles, canvas shoes. And most of these slip-ins have faux lacing making them look soo good and range from 50 to 100 usd, machine washable with memory foam insole Though I'm more of a nike and jordans guy, I will never hate on skechers when it comes to hands free shoes for the elderly and pwd
Skechers copied a few other brands that came out with the hands free slip in first. The "heel cup" that is used to slide your foot in wears out faster than the shoe itself. Then you'll be left with possible cutting to your achellies and heel and calling customer service begging for help only to be told hey mail them in at your expense. lol I used to love telling customers that and hearing them bitch and complain
@TOden4 my parents constantly use skechers for about 2 years now. The slip in tech still holds like it was brand new. And if it comes to that point where the foam gives, I'd buy them a new pair of skechers slip ins
@TOden4 But that brand only makes in a few styles mainly with a wool upper that is basically thick felt, sorry I forget the name of brand but they have some dumb marketing that has it so I would never buy them.
100% true. No one will accuse Sketchers wearers of “trying to be cool.” They probably just want an affordable comfortable shoe that doesn’t look offensive
@benbauer7866 True and I am a long time wearer of sketcher. Honestly up until i found videos like this one I had no idea sketcher was even doing this. I bought Sketchers because the price is good, they are super comfortable and they last a long time. Also after trying other brands for the past few years I still find sketchers to be one of the most comfortable shoes I have warn. Seems hard to find anything more comfortable. Half if not all of my family would agree with the comfort. I remember recently My aunt got a different brand of shoes and hated them and ended up just going back to sketchers. I should mention there are only 2 brands i like more than sketchers and that is splay and jim green.
Its different whereas Designer brands get "inspiration" from other brands but Sketcher copy tech like Nike's Air Bubble, Reebok's pump which these company spends millions of dollars doing R&D.
@donaldneo4317 And the designers are rewarded handsomely for their efforts if they actually produce something good. No one buying Sketchers was gonna pay for the designer stuff anyways. Plus they’re shoes, not jet engine turbine blades…
Retired copycat athletic shoe designer here. Started out at KangaROOS which was a legit brand with its own schtick. Remember the pockets to hold your keys? Moved to different companies who had a huge business knocking off the top selling branded athletic styles for Walmart, Target, Payless and other discount retailers. I was really good at getting the look as close as possible without getting us sued. We worked with the company lawyer to make sure we were safe. Espionage helped us get the latest catalogues from Nike and Reebok et al before the debut of the next season’s lines. We’d have our copies out simultaneously with the brands. I’d stay up all night sketching the knockoffs of what would undoubtedly be the hottest style. One of my Jordan knock offs was even patented but I was only paid $1 courtesy of my employer to retain the rights. My best selling knock off was a Nike “Dad” basic style that sold so well at Walmart - a million pairs - that Nike was furious and they tried to launch their own dumbed down versions specially for Walmart. But they didn’t have our manufacturing know how to produce affordable versions. So we triumphed over the hottest brand of all.
I had KangaROOS when I was an '80's kid in elementary school. I loved those sneakers and still remember them fondly. I'd always had a couple bucks in the pockets for after school snacks.
I used to buy kangaROOS when I was a kid! (I'm 42 now) I loved them. Kept my house key in the tongue pocket😂 ROOS, shoes for your feet, pockets for your stuff!!
I don’t think consumers would go to a store looking to buy Nike and accidentally buy skechers. Most people just get a shoe that looks good and is comfortable.
Does Nike sell Running shoes? I didn't know. Nike Running shoes are expensive, fragile and way less good than Asics, Brooks, Saucony, New Balance, Hoka, ON or Mizuno
I remember the the Regulator. I actually had those in elementary school. In the orange and white color way. Almost got the Michael Jackson sneakers too.
Agree with most. Except for the D’lites. I’ve seen those around since early 2000s. I think they might have had similar looking other models as well. These are probably the most original Skechers shoes to me. “The trends only continued for the brand as they introduced Skechers D'Lites in 2007”
D'lites were originally made in an all white for the Hooters girls in 2006--2007, designed for them as at the time the Reebok model they wore was becoming hard to find, some kind of all white leather Reebok high top version of the running shoe they made. This was because the other shoes were hard to find as a high top version of the leather Runner until more recently.
I'm a retailer and I've got to love Skechers. They give the people what they want at way better pricing than the competition often times. They can even go high-tech. Yep, they pioneered and made the first whole midsoles of a material they call Hyper-Burst. It's a seriously good stable cushioning material and I've noticed a small group of serious runners have found it. I know there's some "cool" types that will never be seen wearing Skechers and it makes me chuckle because they're missing some great shoes. What also makes me chuckle is exactly what you are alluding to here. They'll take one of the big names silhouettes and run with their shoe that often gets the moniker of being "a clone". Pretty fearless marketing on their part.
in 6th grade, i had LA Gear Regulators which was their affordable version of Reebok's pump. I didn't know that the company now lives on in the form of Skechers
Never thought my dad would ever wear street shoes. He's a leather spit-shine kinda guy. Now that he's old, he finds Sketchers slips easy to put on and take off, and have enough cushioning and arch support that they've straightened out his back just by walking. They've helped eliminate pain in his hips and knees too.
I had those LA Gear Regulator pumps. My Dad wouldn't let my Mom buy me expensive shoes until I begged for the Rocket Ismail X Trainer Pump .. which were dope AF!
Didn't know sketchers had all of these designs. All I saw was the running shoe designs and the light up shoes like the "cool breeze" and police strobe light ones I had as a kid.
I had a pair of Salomon hiking shoes with a upper net mesh part very similar to Flyknit in the late 1990's, I can't name specific shoes models but the concept is closer to body glove surfshoes with a hiking sole, these were kinda popular in the late 1990's for outdoorsy people...
Just watched a video of Payless disguising their store as a luxury looking brand and raised their prices to really drill it down. More people bought shoes, obviously because it looks expensive. Lesson: People only buy more expensive brands for bragging rights, and people with a brain just buy the most cost effective shoe they can find for their budget.
I was wrong. The D Lites are a remake of the Skechers 2000 Sport Energy Adrenal which is the shoe I remember seeing in 2000 but looks spot on like the D Lite
A few good things that Skechers did is they were the first to adopt 'Nitrogen Infused' midsole with their HyperBurst series of high performance running sneakers which is now being used by top brands like Puma, Brooks. Also Skechers at least offer an appropriately good insole in a lot of their shoes unlike GR's from Nike and Adidas.
Don't forget the hokasketchiess 😄 joke aside I dream of sketchy bringing back some of the basketball la gears back, I loved my regulators and malones, there was even a dream hakeem lite that to this day I swear it was a beasst model...btw many running enthusiasts gushed over their performance models like the razor
I was that guy until i needed some legit shoes for work and got the Jordan Winterized 6 Rings... Now I'm obsessed with learning about the brands I grew up with. Have bought 3 pairs in 2 weeks lol
I dont know if its just me but I buy nikes for their style, but I wear my sketchers for their comfort. There are some nike shoes that are comfortable, but most models are too narrow, sketchers on the otherhand, every pair I have has been comfortable from the first step-in.
In a trip in China before 2020 I have seen a brand that it was identical 1: 1 to New Balance called New Bunren something. Exact same models, logo everything, they didn't even try to hide it, they even had chain stores in many b level shopping areas or malls. But in a recent trip back there all these disappeared. Lawsuits and new copyright laws made them go away but who knows. Funny thing is that even the orinal NB brand is nowwhere to be found now.
I think that what has helped sketchers is actually that they carry great work and anti-slip shoes and have a whole section dedicated to it. Most of my coworkers wear sketchers as they are also very comfortable. And they aren't cheap.
L.A gear were all the craze at school for like 6 months then everyone realised they were made so poorly shoes literally disintegrated, they weren't that cheap either, converses or asics were much cheaper 😂
Not that it's right...but $200 sneakers makes an open market for $50 copycats.
Game is game
Wait until the Chinese bring in $20 copycats.
@vilvd3934 Yes, dont hate the player, hate the game.
Nike probably own both
Especially when the production cost of both shoes is the same.
Even the name is well... Sketchy.
well at least you can say that they're a good sketcher at other's' models
Clever
Hahahah every berg is sketchy
BADDDDUUMMMM tssss
Owner is a jew
Sketchers is that dude in school copy's off your work and bold about it
...and gets a better grade than you.
I don't care about the copycat stuff, the main selling point is that Skechers are actually REALLY comfortable. They're times more comfortable than high-end sneakers, for a fraction of the price.
What do you mean you don't care? They are BLATANTLY stealing designs. That's a very poor business practice.
@tuanas458 He didn't say they aren't, he said he didn't care. How is that hard to understand? Are you disgusted by car companies manufacturing cars 100% copying the strategy of Ford's model T?
@tuanas458 stealing as a big business from other big businesses is not poor practice it’s pretty standard
absolutely! bought a new skechers pair today because my old skechers deflated and those are comfortable.
The most controversial part is why in the world is Sketchers so damn expensive.
That's my biggest gripe about them. They are priced sometimes more expensive than Nikes and Adidas where I live (Malaysia). They are very comfortable though.
they are 30 euros here lol
I get them on Amazon for about $50 USD
Here in Egypt, sometimes it can sometimes be more expensive
@joquin4618 I get Asics on amazon for about $70 USD
I didn’t know about this history but I have multiple Sketchers, Adidas and Nike and the sketchers are the ones I can wear through my 13hour shifts and not feel like I ran a marathon all that time when I get home 🤷🏽♀️
What people who are into sneakers an fashion often forget is that there are millions of Plane Janes and Regular Johns out there, who couldn't care less if there is a swoosh or three stripes or an S on their shoes or about the history of a brand. They just buy what's least expensive and most comfortable. To me the worst thing about Skechers is that they always look cheap.
Well doesn’t that play into the least expensive aspect?
The S just looks corny .. just like the giant N on new balance but at least they're not cheap, Under Armor looks corny on a shoe too.
I don't think sneaker heads really care what plain Jane's and John's wear on their feet....if anything it just makes it easy to know what type of person you're dealing with in any given situation
For most of the models.
Who cares what they look like they're made of utter tat that falls apart extremely quickly
i don't mind sketchers business plan ... i work at a school in a lower income neighborhood .. i see a lot kids wearing sketchers, if that's what the parents can afford, i have no problem with it
Oh absolutely! I love that side of it.
Skechers are not cheaper than just going to DSW, Ross's, Kohls, etc and getting cheaper Nike or Adidas though
@DA-lk5npthese companys aren't even in my country
@DA-lk5npand probably not in his country either
I do really like their kid shoes designs.
i had LA gear back in 1994-1995 when i was 6-8 years old and those lights were just mesmerizing every step i took XD
Footwear designer here - this strategy of copying other brands but selling it for cheaper is one of the most successful and common strategies in the industry - It sucks and makes the sneaker industry so boring , but it’s so damn effective at making money, most footwear brands do it now.

Skechers products are affordable (even here outside the US) & generally more durable than Nike.. so yeah. Thanks Sketchers.
@weekdays_warrior yes unless the Nike is the latest model or previous model when new, they tend to suck.
Not even hating on sketchers. Having just moved to the US, Sketchers/Payless got me through.
Respect to them and others keeping it Affordable.
100%!! Can’t hate on affordability 🙏🙏
Skechers is priced the same as Nike in my country
Aint like skethers also irrepairable
@srdlat You from Australia or New Zealand? We get ripped off on sports shoes. $200 Sketchers and $140 for All Stars.
@PhantomFilmAustralia I'm from 🇵🇭 at those prices you'll get Lacoste 🐊 shoes
Honestly I don’t mind it. It’s not like their customer base are even remotely the same the designer brands do the exact same thing and that’s accepted
100% true. No one will accuse Sketchers wearers of “trying to be cool.” They probably just want an affordable comfortable shoe that doesn’t look offensive

Wow. What a story. Thanks for sharing that!
WCW wrestling pay per views were sponsored by ROOS and I think Lex Luger would wear the name on his white wrestling boots😆
Stan "Smish" 😂😂😂😂
Copping right now
Sketchers need to do some LA Gear throwbacks like the fish gills and the heel lights
I believe LA Gear brought back some of the silhouettes but not the same
Sketchers did the Heel Lights in the 2000's but only on kids shoes called the Skechers Stomp lights.
I don’t think consumers would go to a store looking to buy Nike and accidentally buy skechers. Most people just get a shoe that looks good and is comfortable.
this is a well well well moment
Nike can sell Air Max as a running shoe but I don't remember to see a single runner on them. These things was too heavy.
Does Nike sell Running shoes? I didn't know. Nike Running shoes are expensive, fragile and way less good than Asics, Brooks, Saucony, New Balance, Hoka, ON or Mizuno
5:40 is the embodiment of 90s logo design!
That LA Gear bombshell was crazy!!
I've been a sneakerhead for almost 30 years and had NO idea it was the same company.
agree! I had no idea.
@ShawnKirchwhat it’s the same company!?!?!?
I remember the the Regulator. I actually had those in elementary school. In the orange and white color way. Almost got the Michael Jackson sneakers too.
Special times. You almost got the Billie Jean 1s
Thanks for this. btw adidas has a model called BW Army, which is basically the GAT shoes.
And now Skechers has just been acquired by 3G Capital in a private deal.
Would love a video about the 150 year old German shoe company Rieker! Little seems to be known about them.
i am old enough to remember wearing L.A gear
I mainly associate Skechers with the light up shoes I had as a kid
Yo i had the gat shoe with the puma brand on it i used to work in vintage
Skechers copies the casual sneaker and then invests in their running/walking shoes and god they incredible for the price. So I’m all for it
Agree with most. Except for the D’lites. I’ve seen those around since early 2000s. I think they might have had similar looking other models as well. These are probably the most original Skechers shoes to me.

I can't lie I always thought this 😂😂
If one brand may have it, its def this one. Their shoes are affordable and comfortable af. What more do we need? They deserve their success
I'm a retailer and I've got to love Skechers. They give the people what they want at way better pricing than the competition often times. They can even go high-tech. Lol 😂 this is fun to watch ❤
Not gonna lie, their slip ins are super comfy. Got some of their arch support golf shoes too. I’m old enough now to not care about 250 dollar Jordans.
Never thought my dad would ever wear street shoes. He's a leather spit-shine kinda guy. i love Skechers . good fit, good price. been wearing them for 25 yrs or more
Great video man
I had those LA Gear Regulator pumps.
Good informative video, kuya!
About that Skech air though, man those midsoles are hella hard (literally) 🤣
I had a pair of Salomon hiking shoes with a upper net mesh part very similar to Flyknit in the late 1990's, I can't name specific shoes models but the concept is closer to body glove surfshoes with a hiking sole, these were kinda popular in the late 1990's for outdoorsy people...
i love nike sketchers and all the other brands but i just realized the similarities
They make comfortable shoes. That's it man.
And here in australia, they made clogs very, very similar to crocs, with the only main difference being the outsole pattern.
Awesome content! These might be the most hype up brand one day or might close down. Skechers is the unicorn sneakers.
Appreciate it mang
Another well researched episode. I’ve shared this with all my “sneaker sniffer” pals. Keep ‘em coming mate.
Thanks Tone!
I always wonde5what happened to LA Gear
Back in the day I saw KMART sneakers that looked a lot like Jordan’s back in the day
Just watched a video of Payless disguising their store as a luxury looking brand and raised their prices to really drill it down. More people bought shoes, obviously because it looks expensive. Lesson: People only buy more expensive brands for bragging rights, and people with a brain just buy the most cost effective shoe they can find for their budget.
A day in my life @ the factory started with the boss giving us a bunch of shoes from wherever "ok copy this this & this" & we did. lol
In my country Puma with the same bottom sole is cheaper
You can make this same video with Steve Madden
good breakdown......i wasn't aware....
Thanks!
What is the model called that looks like the 270
The Sketcher D Lights are from the early 2000's and are the very first Sketchers shoe I ever saw of around 2001.
I was wrong. The D Lites are a remake of the Skechers 2000 Sport Energy Adrenal which is the shoe I remember seeing in 2000 but looks spot on like the D Lite
Those sneakers that Skechers makes that are easy to slide into, that’s their idea, right? The ones in the Super Bowl commercial with Martha Stewart.
Another great video. I’ve looked at Sketches askew and wondered how they away with it. So many questions answered.
Hey John! Hope you’re well man
What about these luxury brands that follow design trends as well?
Great video and I love all of the side-by-side comparisons that you made! There are so many sneakers that Skechers jacked and put their own spin on.
Thanks Dee!!
First ever Skechers shoes I've tried was at a Marshalls in the early 2000s. The shoes felt clunky 😂
I’ve been seeing their ON knockoffs. They are so similar, I can’t believe they haven’t been shut down
A few good things that Skechers did is they were the first to adopt 'Nitrogen Infused' midsole with their HyperBurst series of high performance running sneakers which is now being used by top brands like Puma, Brooks.
Also Skechers at least offer an appropriately good insole in a lot of their shoes unlike GR's from Nike and Adidas.
Good insole? Memory foam is a good insole? It literally falls apart after weeks/months
Adidas has ultraboost and nike has air and react
@samlung2724Those are midsole technologies.
I bought once skechers uno for 65$, they were very comfortable to walk. I was really thinking of buying another pair.
The Uno colors are great. I have like 4 pair in different colors.
I just saw a copy of ON Monster in a sketchbook store in Mexico.
Sounds about right
Lol i loved the Flex appeal, i wore that shoe til it fell apart😂😂
fabulous shoes😻
Sweat brand sounds like sweat shop
The real idiots are the people who thinks a bunch of shoes with a brand logo are worth the exorbitant price
Way more comfy tho. I never forget the first time I wear their steel toe work boots.
The snoop dog ones are pretty dope.
It blows me away how much some people know about shoes... I just go to Ross & buy a pair...
I hear you. It’s definitely weird haha It’s a culture. People like to collect things and learn more about the history behind them.
I was that guy until i needed some legit shoes for work and got the Jordan Winterized 6 Rings... Now I'm obsessed with learning about the brands I grew up with. Have bought 3 pairs in 2 weeks lol
Great content my friend
Thanks Julian
They should make their light up shoes for adult.
Cool Video!!!!
Thanks Rob
I'm a dad/granddad now, all I wear are Sketchers ... and I love them!
They also made a shoe that resembles the brandblack rare metal 2. Skechers will steal designs from any company not just the giant ones.
I'm still amazed that they haven't been sued into oblivion.
I enjoyed watching the vid.
Thank you kuya
🔥🔥
The only Skecher copycats I wore were the tan work boots that looked like Timberland
I will always be allergic to Sketchers. Great report!
Thanks Juan
I dont know if its just me but I buy nikes for their style, but I wear my sketchers for their comfort. There are some nike shoes that are comfortable, but most models are too narrow, sketchers on the otherhand, every pair I have has been comfortable from the first step-in.
They also have On Running dupes 😭😭😭
although mostly agree sometimes a sketchers shoe will really shock you how good of a shoe it is
I owned the LA Gear pump shoes as a kid
You were a cool kid! Anyone who had pump up kicks 👍
Thanks. I didn't know that Skechers were LA Gear.
Forgot to mention the slip in tech that scetchers uses seems like a copy of kiziks or zeba.
Great video
Thank you sir
I love NB and Skechers,.. i love this great video too... new subs from Bali
Appreciate the love from Bali 🙏
I think that what has helped sketchers is actually that they carry great work and anti-slip shoes and have a whole section dedicated to it. Most of my coworkers wear sketchers as they are also very comfortable. And they aren't cheap.
L.A gear were all the craze at school for like 6 months then everyone realised they were made so poorly shoes literally disintegrated, they weren't that cheap either, converses or asics were much cheaper 😂
The Rota Wheels of shoes
GREAT VID
Thanks Theon 🙏
Great Vid as always 🤙🏽🌪️🙏🏼
Thanks Harry!
Sketcher is a comfort no other has that's why it's so special
