Wrong, the Bible wasn't used at all according to John Adams himself.
The United States of America have exhibited, perhaps, the first example of governments erected on the simple principles of nature. . . . [In] the formation of the American governments . . . it will never be pretended that any persons employed in that service had interviews with the gods, or were in any degree under the influence of heaven. . . . These governments were contrived merely by the use of reason and the senses.

@@user-zs2ly5qu3f So do you think Catholics should be the authority over the state? Hasn't worked out well through history. The inquisition comes to mind. Which religion should take presedence? Many of the Founders were deists who believed in a “watchmaker god” theory. A few decades after the Founders, scientists began to realize that natural laws could extend far into the past and explain not only how nature behaves today, but also how it came to be in the first place. Speciation could be explained by evolution through natural selection; geology could be explained by plate tectonics; the history of the universe could be explained by physics, astronomy, and cosmology. The trajectory of science has become clear over the last 329 years. It’s easy to imagine that these final mysteries, too, will eventually be fully explained by science, and so irreligious people no longer feel the need to include the “watchmaker god” of deism; they are comfortable discarding the notion of gods entirely.
Zoroastrianism contains both monotheistic and dualistic features. It likely influenced the other major Western religions Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Zoroastrianism is an ancient monotheistic religion that predates Christianity by centuries, and the two religions share many features. That's for another discussion.

Forcing the display of the 10 Commandments in every public classroom is tantamount to imposing religion onto schools and arguing that they are basically the same under several religions is pure sophistry, as only one version will be shown while excluding several other religions' ethical codes, for instance
    - the 5 Yamas of Hinduism
    - the 5 moral precepts of Buddhism
    - the Shar'ia of Islam
Most of the underlying core principles of moral and ethics are similar across most religions, but to impose a singular version to be displayed is unconstitutional, and could be an affront to those of a different faith.
They could have a side-by-side comparison display featuring a plethora of ethical belief systems which would have the added benefit of showing that similarities are many while differences are few.

PUT THESE UP IN A CLASSROOM AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS
    10 commandments in Exodus 34.
    1. Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
    2. Do not make any idols.
    3. Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread. For seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Aviv, for in that month you came out of Egypt.
    4. The first offspring of every womb belongs to me, including all the firstborn males of your livestock, whether from herd or flock.
    5. Redeem the firstborn donkey with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck. Redeem all your firstborn sons. No one is to appear before me empty-handed.
    6. Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest, you must rest.
    7. Celebrate the Festival of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Festival of Ingathering at the turn of the year.
8.Three times a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD, the God of Israel.
    9. Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast and do not let any of the sacrifices from the Passover Festival remain until morning.
    10. Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God. "Do not cook a young goat in its mother's milk."
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”
Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant - the Ten Commandments.

However, Catholics do not have the specific commandment about a graven image. I'll cherish till the day I die.
Where the bones of past heroes lie buried in the ground
Who loved her the same as I.
Her mountains are so tall they reach for the sky
With prairies where the green grasses grow.
There's billions of trees where wild birds nest
    With creatures that flourish below.
That blue gold called water with which we are blessed
    As raindrops or crystallized snow
Changes to rivers and fresh water lakes
While the winds of our seasons blow.
Some cities have buildings a hundred stories tall
Structures of concrete, glass and steel.
A statue in a harbor, a present from France
    Describes how inside, we feel.
That flag on the moon with red and white stripes
    Proves America’s dreams come true.
A country of heroes who line up to protect
The past, the present and few.
Our men and woman who serve in harm’s way
Are the armor of what the free world depends on.
Without their sacrifice of body and soul
All that we stand for is gone.
It’s not a priest who gives us freedom of religion,

Freedom of Religion also includes freedom from Religion. Roughly 29% of Americans are religiously unaffiliated. Some people in the US are atheists or agnostic. Some identify themselves as having religious beliefs outside the Judeo/Christian tradition. The public classroom is no place for promoting a particular religious tradition, whether that be Christian or any other faith or absence of faith. There are plenty of private religion-based schools out there for parents to send their kids to, if they so choose.

The Exodus 20 "10 Commandments" verses are split differently into commandments by various Judeo-Christian sects. Jews and later Catholics and still later Protestants don't agree what verses are part of which commandment.
For example, CATHOLICS' Commandment 2 is considered JEWS and SOME PROTESTANTS' Commandment 3: "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain." (quoting modern-English NAS Bible)
Numbering this as commandment 2 or 3 isn't even quoting a full "historical" bible verse"You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain" .
I know. Let's mandate all LA classrooms include in huge posters all of Exodus 20:2-17, and let students vote how to split the verses into 10 commandments.
Here's the classroom poster text for the NAS Bible:
    EXODUS 20:2-17:
2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
3 "You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
5 "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,
6 but showing loving kindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
7 "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.
8 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 "Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you.
11 "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.
12 "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you.
    13 "You shall not murder.
14 "You shall not commit adultery.
    15 "You shall not steal.
16 "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor."

Now as America throws Separation of Church and state it out the window the same things, will and are, happening here. Conflicts, destruction of Freedoms, Forced Religion to school children, hatred, and so forth. The former tradition of Separation of Church and State are now being destroyed by the current Right-Wing Chrisitan Supreme Court. Divisions and Battel lines are growing wider every day. I give Andrew Cuomo credit for being willing to confront this issue, and I hope he quits the Vatican.

Gah, Bill is right about the fake Madison quote, but doesn't quite get the story of the Constitutional Convention correct re Patrick Henry and Roger Sherman. Henry didn't think America should be a "Christian Nation" (there is a supposed quotation of his that suggests otherwise, but like the Madison quote, it's fake). Rather he thought Virginia should be a "Christian State" (the battle between him on one side and Jefferson/Madison on the other in the 1780s).
Arguably Henry at the time didn't think the United States should BE a *great nation* (that's a term from the phony quotation attributed Henry) but rather a confederation of sovereign states. He voted against ratification of the US Constitution because it spoke in the name of "We The People" as opposed to "We The States."

Jesus told us about his god, who he called God the Father.
God the father is a loving god, full of compassion. He takes really good care of you.
Jesus spoke on behalf of god the father and Jesus said the LAWS are to love each other (john 14:10) and to do unto others (Matthew 7:12).
Jesus warned people to not do what the Lord THEIR god said in both Matthew 5:38-39 and again in Matthew 5:43-44. See the sermon on the mount.
Those religious people called Jesus a liar and a blasphemer because he kept trying to tell them their God is the devil pretending he is God/not God the father.
Jesus told people they did not know his god see (all in john):John 15:21, 16:2-3, 17:25, 8:47, 8:54-55.
Jesus calls their churches, the synagogues of Satan in Revelation because they serve a God (john 8:44) who told his prophets to murder. John 16:2-3: they do not know God the Father, which is why they think he would ever tell anyone to murder and Jesus did try to warn them.
They did not believe what Jesus was telling them instead they believed Abrahams lies (john 8:40, genesis 22) and that is why they repeat the commandments Moses gave them instead of living the Laws Jesus gave them.
They (religious) don’t say anything about the LAWS Jesus gave them. They all turned into Stevie wonder when it comes to the Laws and teachings Jesus told us to live by.
Abraham said it was God who told him to murder his son (genesis 22) also saying it was God who wanted him to marry his half sister, saying it was God who told him to mutilate children/circumcision.
Moses said God told him to murder a man for picking up sticks because it was Moses’s Sabbath in Numbers 15:32-36.
Only the devil (john 8:44) pretending he is God (genesis 2) tricks people into doing evil things so they stay trapped in hell And Jesus did try to warn everyone.
Jesus came here to Hell (Matthew 23:33-“being” means present state), telling people they are trapped in hell because they were tricked from the beginning by the devil (john 8:44) pretending he is God.
Jesus told them they are all related.
We are ALL descended from the same common ancestor who is Eve, Adams genetic sister thanks to the DNA inside that rib bone. Same bone= same DNA=genetic brother and sister. Every single one of us is cousins so every union is inc€st. That is why Jesus lived a celibate life, teaching others to do the same.
They all turned into Stevie Wonder about that detail too.
Humanity has chosen to repeat the same mistake Adam and Eve made (in€st) instead of changing & doing what Jesus taught (celibacy, Matthew 19:12, Matthew 22:30, john 2:6).
They didn’t believe anything Jesus came here to tell them.
In fact, let them tell it and they repeat Caiaphas’s lie and cover up (john 11:51) saying Jesus roamed this planet for over 30 years, but only came here to die for their sins, not to tell them anything important about who they are, where they are and the only Way (celibacy) out.
In fact, they didn’t listen to anything Jesus said which is why they chose religion (Pharisees) and give their energy to politics (Sadducees in Matthew 16:6) and spend their days eating, drinking and marrying (ALL COUSINS!!!).
Here in Hell, they call it the “Earth”, the devils angels still worship the devil (john 8:44) and call him “god” because they didn’t listen to anything Jesus told them.
Let them tell it & he only came here to die, not to tell them anything important.
Just a heads up, the devil is out there pretending he is God and he’s tricking people into doing evil things so they stay trapped in hell and Jesus did try to warn them. They (religious) always hated what Jesus SAID & they ain’t trying to hear any of it (Luke 11:31), so they stay trapped in Hell but call it the “Earth”.
