Yes wortox had his soul stealing abilities before krampus. the description of his fawn skin says " ol kramps says my powers should grow in soon" implying that he already had his soul powers before and just didn't awaken them until his fight with krampus. It also implies that they might be the same species if krampus knew wortox would get his powers soon. Wortox is also referred to and calls himself an "imp" before and after his transformation so that's likely his species name or at least the best we'll get for one
I think it makes the most sense that he'd be effectively a "krampus turned 'good'", similar to the other monster characters. Even besides the lore that you mentioned, it'd be strange for krampus to take in some random creature and train it alongside him, so him being a "krampus in training" would make the most sense.
Fun fact: Wortox can just, go outside the constant whenever he wants. He says he can when examining the Florid Postern and also there is some art with him eating ramen and Klei said he just grabbed some from Earth.

a small little detail that I think is pretty cool is that in wanda's original release live stream, klei did a mini QnA and one of the two things of note that they said was that she was a popular clockmaker as a cover job but her main objective was trying to figure out what shadow magic is and how to revert aging for herself and in tandem they mentioned that wanda found out about the shadows from a "mysterious figure" and was able to harness shadow creatures to fuel her clocks and this bit of lore makes sense on why they are so adamant on chasing her, and why maxwell is apprehensive about her clocks (though I don't think maxwell is the figure) another thing, wanda only has a few timepieces that she was able to "convert" using shadow and eventually shadows caught up with what she was doing she started to outrun them. outside of the constant wanda has access to only 3 things; her ageless watch that reverts her body to her youngest self. (implied that they can do whatever age, since they revert her body to any of the different timelines she was in) the clockmaker's tools (since they aren't made from the constant, they are unbreakable) lastly her backtrek watch, before the constant she was able to use it to travel to any timeline she's been in (not her age) I mention this because as soon as she broke the watch and activated it, her timestream got intertwined into the constant, in the QnA they mention that wanda didn't just "see" everything happen. she EXPERIENCED it, she saw every single outcome and every single short, and exactly what happens. but can't do anything about it which is why she acts so apprehensive to the other survivors, she knows what happens. she also seems to know a LOT about shadows, like exactly how they work and how purple gems are filled with a pure form of nightmares (which is why her quotes for the nightmare amulet and nightlight are so scared) yeah I kinda went on a rant but wanda has a LOT of lore and I love all of it so I just wanted to share some :) can't wait for the wanda vid (if you make one ;p)

i really dont like how little backstory they added to the characters after winona. while i can accept that walter or wurt dont have that much lore for example, because theyre kids and they havent done much. but when it comes to wanda, she should have a huge backstory! we dont know her family, we dont know her job, we dont know her interests, or her problems outside of magic. we only have a sliver of information about her! personally im interested in her financial status, and if she knows any of the other characters from before the constant. if theyre not gonna give her a family, the least they could do is give her a quote like "i dont talk to them anymore" or something. or if shes been resetting her age for a long time and everyone she knew is dead, "i remember when i had a family" or "i knew a person like this lifetimes ago". not exactly what i wrote bc im not a good writer but something of that sort. and, with all the wild stuff the other characters say and do, i dont think it would be too far or too mature for her to have an opinion or two on slavery or racism, given the historical placement, i think they didnt do it because they either dont know enough or are scared it would be off putting but imo it would add alot of necessary realism
By the way the gentlemen pre fix is when someone does a craft purely for the love of it with little monetary reward. Also the only clalfcation you need to be a scientist is use the scitific method when doing expartments and have an open mind... Which is something modern "scintists" love to ignore favoring feelings, cold hard cash and popular option over actuall scince... Saying tjings like the scitific method methiod is outdated much like anything anyone did before the enlightiment... Over facts and the getting to the truth as we can know it. Which is what scince is all about and was very much the first invention and still does separate Homo Sapains from he rest of things from the universe... Which is something no person can have calfucsations for. As even if you were the most strin get scintest you may not be this experiment much less second. Hmmm, Don't Starve is starting to pop up all around RUclips once again.
What's the music around 12:55? Idk which old RuneScape theme it is.
i really dont like how little backstory they added to the characters after winona. while i can accept that walter or wurt dont have that much lore for example, because theyre kids and they havent done much. but when it comes to wanda, she should have a huge backstory! we dont know her family, we dont know her job, we dont know her interests, or her problems outside of magic. we only have a sliver of information about her!
personally im interested in her financial status, and if she knows any of the other characters from before the constant. if theyre not gonna give her a family, the least they could do is give her a quote like "i dont talk to them anymore" or something. or if shes been resetting her age for a long time and everyone she knew is dead, "i remember when i had a family" or "i knew a person like this lifetimes ago". not exactly what i wrote bc im not a good writer but something of that sort. and, with all the wild stuff the other characters say and do, i dont think it would be too far or too mature for her to have an opinion or two on slavery or racism, given the historical placement, i think they didnt do it because they either dont know enough or are scared it would be off putting but imo it would add alot of necessary realism
Making scientist a state of mind over a thing you can go to school for.
