    Unclip the tailgate cables and let it drop lower- 4 inches less vertical travel to make. Back up to the curb- 6 less inches. Back down into a ditch. Lower tire pressure in truck if you have a compressor. Anything to decrease overall vertical distance makes it much easier. All your methods were good too.

    Hey guys, here's a neat trick I discovered many truck models ago, and it keeps working for me through them all! I have a full size GMC now with short box. Once my 450 is in, I can't close the tailgate. Here's the trick: loop your steel braided tailgate support cables on each side over the TOP and in FRONT of the tailgate catch posts (lift gate to remove cable tension while routing). Now the cables will pull tight when the tailgate is at about a 45° incline, which will tuck it right behind the rear tire and also prevent any larger objects from falling out of the back. Even holds my ramps in nicely. Call it a "half closed gate", at least. Anyone else figured this one out? It's great for a short bed truck--can get two bikes in with tailgate half up like that--looks much better than a fully open tailgate!

    1st is just riding my bike up
    The 2nd and my favourite is clutching the bike up, 1st gear and slowly idle the bike up when it get to the point where I have to step up I like to let the bike kinda pull me up as I go for the step as I Cant physically step up onto the tail gate. Works great and never failed me.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  5 лет назад

      Compressing does put some extra pressure on the fork seals and I certainly wouldn't leave them compressed for extended periods of time (over night), but if you're concerned about that, we carry fork savers that go between the fender and the tire so you can tie your bike down very secure without compressing the forks hardly at all. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/rider-cargo-motorcycle-fork-brace-p

I put the ramp off to the side I want the bike on and wheel it up the ramp while walking beside the truck (left side ramp, I walk up the left side of the truck). I normally prehook my first strap onto the truck so when I get the bike on I can put the one strap on it and then hop into the bed and do the other side. I can easily load a bike by my self with out a ramp just grab under the forks and lift the front up then lean the rear on my shoulder and grab the swing arm and lift it up. Do it all the time!

    Wheelie onto hood of vehicle. Ride up. Do a stoppie at end of truck roof and rotate rear wheel over bed, allow front wheel to fall in. *requires solid steel windshield*

    I did like your tip for how to unload without a ramp which happens once in awhile but for loading I always just ride my bike up the double-wide four wheeler ramp I bought years ago but I would do it on a modern strong foot-wide ramp as well. Just make sure you're standing when you go up and never sit or your suspension will rebound going up putting you out of control. Just be ready to go up with decent momentum in first gear of course and don't accelerate as you go up and let off the gas as you go up putting on the brakes smoothly as you are reaching the top.

    Push the bike on the right hand side. Get in a pinch, grab front brake and roll rear wheel with left hand. Can't do that from the left side. Helps when tired after a long hard day

      Yeah it's not hard until you do it wrong then it really hurts but if you have the wide ramp or guts of Steel and then works great

      Agreed, I don’t have one so I’ve never been able to try it but I’d think a wide ramp that was made to hold the weight would be perfect to just gently ride up, of course still with securing the ramp to the tailgate

      My ramp is a 2x12 and my last 2 trucks I rode it up all the time. My new truck is a lot higher so I walk along side with the bike in first gear and let the motor push it up.

    i never use a ramp, and my ute (im Australian, a truck is a truck hahah) is really high off the ground, i just grab the front axle and lift the front wheel up, then grab my swing-arm, lift the bike up so the linkage is on the bed, then rotate the rear wheel and its in. then reverse steps to get it out. im only 16 and 6f tall, and i find it really easy with a ktm 450sxf

    We always put two bikes in a 6ft bed with the tailgate up. Just slide the rear tires to the side.

  • @TwinTurboLsx
    @TwinTurboLsx 3 года назад

    I quickly learned not to rely on there front brake when unloading and slowly rolling the bike out. If you don't have a bed liner that adds traction for the front tire to grab onto, the front brake is useless and sets you up for an accident. ask me how I know. So I always put the bike in gear and slowly roll it back and out using the clutch as a brake since the back tire was firmly in the ramp.
