i remember my uncles wanted to launch these from the hand, he used a workers glove and held 2 dozen of them while my other uncle lit as much as he could, my uncle dropped all of them and all i remember was hearing the whistles of death flying in all directions while everyone frantically ran and took cover. those were the best times! xD

Grew up in Los Angeles shooting these at crows from an old lead pipe like it was a bazooka. Lol to be 11 again
Pro tip: Break off about 3" of the sticks and they will go much quicker and higher(since they're lighter). Bottle rockets are banned in a few other states too, including Texas, because in the summer/drought season, they are notorious for starting fires. That's why.

Thunder bomb firecrackers and moon traveler bottle rockets were the two fireworks I grew up with... And I had so much fun for many years.. Then I got older and started getting into bigger fireworks

Whistling moon travelers are one of my my favorite fireworks, they’re cheap simple and fun

Whistling Moon Travelers became a staple of illegal fireworks, and it’s fun to used on the 4th of July and New Year’s, and in amusement parks where the fireworks will start.
Really like the whistle and pop.
They were banned in the UK also in the late 90s but with a bit of digging around
they are not hard to obtain from certain sellers across the channel.
They are also banned because there was some kids throwing them at each other and one time one of the bottle rockets went into a hay stack and fought on caught on fire
Back in my day, the neighborhood kids would all get together, rip them completely off the stick, light them, hold them for a second, then we'd all chuck them up into the air, run like heck, and hope we didn't get hit. Someone always got hit. Got popped on the arm once. Scar is completely gone now, but I'd still do that every year until around 2007 or so.
It feels so rewarding to see and hear these again, as they're banned in the Netherlands, along with an increasing lot of fireworks
when i had leftover bottle rockets i would grab a used roman cande and light the bottle rocket stick it inside the roman candle then point it up. it as fun

dot ones were really good, louder longer whistle plus a legit report. In aerials you can have up to about 130 mg, most firecrackers I took apart only have 40-45 grams. So the report was basically 3 times a firecracker and sounded good. Now they are about like a firecracker

These little bottle rockets have been banned here in Texas for 25+ years! I used to buy a gross for .99 cents with a coupon from the paper. I just got back from Mississippi and bought 20 gross (12 dozen is a gross) of regular and 20 gross of whistling & brought back to Texas. These little bottle rockets have always been a favorite. Just sitting in a lawn chair with a tube & a bunch of bottle rockets, love it! It's also fun letting them take off from your hand.

what i’ve always been told or heard around from people is they aren’t legal cuz they aren’t predictable making them somewhat more dangerous then other fireworks but idk cuz a lot of other fireworks aren’t predictable sometimes let alone any of em but it sounds pretty understandable id say
I remember when the bottle rockets got banned we stocked up on Silver Foxes at Memory in Minot lol, they lasted a few years.
i wld do road trips like 3to4hrs away to vermont from southern NH and resell them get buy1 (at $15to $20) 2 free sell a gross at $20 to $40 a pce paid like what $6 a pce nice markup
Possibly due to their often unpredictable flight path/height leading to a potential fire hazard. I know there are some towns around me where everything is allowed except specifically bottle rockets by name.

I live in Nebraska bottle rockets are illegal here to we usually just go down to Missouri early spring and get some can't wait for New Year's would like some more for about half an hour usually it's 10 degrees outside

In Montana ALL rockets and roman candles are illegal. I just go to the Rez to buy them though. And for the most part all fireworks are banned except for 4th of July and New Years.
Growing up poor my parents used to get a LOT of moon travelers and small fireworks. We weren't rich enough for shells. I'm just now getting in to making my own small fireworks. I'm staying away from bigger stuff though.
I had some of these I picked up in Mississippi but they went like 4x farther before popping

A Haunter well fireworks in Hawaii are illegal, every type of aerial is illegal including bottle rockets. So all aerials are illegally imported from the mainland and sold at triple the price. For example 1 500 gram cake and cost around 200-300 depending on its effect.
I got them for 40 in California
here in the Netherlands they're banned in the entire country. Probably because you could light whole packs at once, point them at people and they produce a lot of waste..
Where i live they just fly but don’t explode and they don’t wissle but we put mini firecrackers on them with wool and it makes a small lil bottle rocket

These are banned in South Carolina as well. I’ve asked around and everyone says its because theres not enough lift charge in them and they cause fires. They tend to fly around everywhere which causes them to be dangerous as they’re unpredictable. They land on roofs and in bushes, which start fires.
Hey if you have time starting June 27th you should make a trip to north sioux city SD there are over 8 stores all good prices within a 15 minute drive! A couple big stores!
For washington all rockets are banned, they say because of unpredictability... I still make em for my own use as model rocket motors

A child lost an eye to bottle rockets. Also, the sale is what is prohibited, possession and use are legal in ND. Also if you are a member of organizations like PGI and their convention is held in North Dakota, bottle rockets can be sold to ND residents. I bought two cases of whistling moon travelers during the 2017 PGI convention in West Fargo. Still have plenty left, my passed away due to a vehicle accident dog loved chasing them.

We use to have bottle rocket wars as kids. Good times.
If u launch rockets from snow pull them out and push them back in a few times this should (hopefully) make them quite loose so they dont get stuck.
One of the other reasons is smoldering sticks falling from the sky and starting house fires

Try using a Christmas tree stand with a decent size tube high enough for you to light the fuse all at once myself I eather use a sparkler or a morning glory last year I went through a whole case with in an hr or so fyi use ear plugs I was deaf for 2 whole days

As little and petty as they are, I’ve always loved them moon travelers. Specially when It was little and was all I could find in the parents closet on the top shelf! Lol. Hey do you know those James Bond cans are like?? Are they just a blue or grey 4” canister shell??

Fireworks in general were banned here in Iowa in 19whatever due to a fire at a drug store that also stored fireworks nextdoor.. Something like that im too lazy to look it up. Anyway they leagalized pretty much everything a few years ago and then it was legal pretty much the whole month of June to a week or so after July 4th. It was like a warzone everynight for a month... Now they've restricted it quite a bit but i take my fireworks up north to MN to set them off at the cabin so not quite sure what goes on.

IIRC Bottle Rockets/rockets a banned in a majority of states because the "carcass" has been known to set brush and house fires. Unlike cans and shells, where the body of the firework is essentially destroyed within the radius of the firework itself, the smoldering remains of a rocket as well as the unpredictable trajectory make bottle rockets and abstract threat to property.

Hey cody thats cool your making a video on these. Question. You know whats in these moon rockets? I believe reg rockets contian flash but dont these contain sodium benzoate? Or potassium benzoate? Is this powder as sensitive as flash or do u know?
