    The joys of paper filters. Had a Skoda fabia in the workshop this week. Hadn't had an oil chance in a few years. The O ring had gone flat so the oil was leaking everywhere.

    Nice job well done. I did a double oil and filter change on my 1993 Diesel Mondeo, this was my first of many Diesel's, I could not believe that the oil still looked black as coal. I then changed to a semi-synthetic oil, and noticed better mpg, only 2 to 3 miles per gallon, but my annual mileage was circa 45k at that time.
    Mineral oils do not retain contaminants in suspension for prolonged periods, I found this out when I used to rent a council lock up car garage, and after an oil change, left the used oil in a newish tin, forgot about it, then many months later, was puzzled as to why it appeared new/clear?.
    Compare to fully synthetic, where as an experiment, I retained a small amount in a sealed jar, this was in 2004, and it's still as black as coal.🤔

    If you notize, the oil dripping of the dipstick is already black, that is because this engine´s drain plug is sitting about an inch higher than the bottom of the oil pan so you never get the last 1/2 liter of oil out of it, this and the banjo bolt with a mesh screen have costed so many turbo´s that aftermarked you can get a oil pan with the drain plug further down, as far as I know neither Citroen/Peugeot or Ford would recognise the problem so owners had to pay them self for turbo´s

    It's good to see you fit the filter to the housing first then you know the spigot is firmly in place.
    A lot of videos show them fitting the filter into the cover first which surely won't let the spiggot locate correctly. Glen.

    • @fernandostanic2035
      @fernandostanic2035 3 года назад +2

      I was thinking the same but after watichg this video i understand now how it works if you put filter first to the cap and them screw the carp with filter to the housing. Mahle panented this design for 1.6 hdi. m.ruclips.net/video/YSHif5Fde7E/видео.html

    • @ShowMoneyz
      @ShowMoneyz 3 года назад +1

      Yeah, no mistake in both ways. Official service first put filter in cap and then screw. That pattern makes alone to put filter in right position and fit in little hole

  • @danc8278
    @danc8278 4 года назад +6

    The early 1.6HDi engines had faulty injector seals, it's one way that carbon ends up in the oil and knackers the turbos. There's a banjo bolt in the turbo oil supply with a mesh screen that gets clogged and starves the turbo of oil.

    I always used to try and keep my Defender up to the fuller end of the dipstick, but it uses large quantities of oil if I do.
    It uses oil until it gets to bang in the middle of the dipstick then the level doesn't move until the next service. So I now fill it up to half way and leave it.

I did that for a while load test the battery, check coolent ph/ freeze point, Inspect for brake pad wear, visual for leak's, smoked rotors(sticking pistons/ floating hardware) fill out the check list so it could be put in the data base for the repeat customers you could tell pretty much what you would see befor opening the hood coolent ph and battery state of health deterioration generaly fallows a predictable curve of decline sure wish it paid more thogh

    as an expat now in Aus the sparsity of diesel cars over here always amazed but with no MOT (outside NSW) there are not the tight controls over emissions and hence servicing so those diesels that are around tend to be dirty, mobile smoke machines but I understand that they are soon to be banned up there is that correct?

    Nice instructional video, I've just bought a 2009 1.6 75ps and am giving it a once over in the engine bay and I have found the engine top cover is covered with a black residue around the base of the injectors and the cover, that seems to be baked hard and is like a bit of coal. I am chipping it out carefully with a screw driver and blowing it out with an air blow gun, any tips on what has caused this, I'm guessing an oil leak that's pooling on top of the cover then getting baked hard, or leaking injector seals. any advice greatly appreciated
