I really enjoy seeing how much all of this means to you. If there was ever a candidate for a video game museum owner / curator, it is you. And if you ever do start pulling something together for a museum, I'm sure that many of us will pitch in and help to get it off the ground. I know I would.
Couldn't have happened to a cooler dude. I was 5 when playing some of these games and watching your Atari videos always is a great way to start the day.
Born in 82, I first played, & still love Atari 2600, i think it has to do with us growing up on it, and it is fun and cheaper to collect than NES or whatever else, Atari 2600 started it all, you're right man, great stuff and great video!
That's awesome. I could imagine your surprise opening that package with those items in it. You have some great friends to send you that stuff! I can understand your feelings about Atari as well. It was the beginning of gaming for me and is very special for that reason. Some of those games and their sound effects really take me back instantly. I really wouldn't change having the 2600 as my first system as a kid for any other era or system. Things were simpler then but had just as much magic.
Cool to see your enthusiasm for 2600. I don't collect but I have fond memories of playing haunted house, berserker and other games with my big brother. Very interested to see your process behind creating a museum.
Yes! Telegames! This is our model of the 2600! My dad got tons of these Sears games when he bought the system in '79. My favorite is Target Fun. I played it for houuuuuuuurs. I actually still do, but I use an emulator instead of my cart. I don't have the right equipment to play the carts yet.
Games were meant to be played and gives them history and personality,I remember opening a new game as a child, the excitement and the impatience ,especially with some of the box art that over did what the game actually was.
Great vid! hope to see you get that museum up and going as well! will pay a visit :) I love most everything gaming, but have a real passion for Atari product. The only system I really collect everything for is the Sega Dreamcast, have over 100 games so far complete. plus a demo console and some rev 0 units as well. Thanks for all you do in the community!
Hey John, I have been trying to complete my own Atari 2600 game cartridge collection as well. Unfortunately I have missed out on a few games because I didn't have the money when something was first available or when someone chose to sell off their own game cartridges they have disposed of the boxes and manuals without a second thought about it. I have been trying to reassemble certain game cartridges with their manuals and boxes, the hardest to do are the Activision games!!!
I like your "subset" ideas. It's fun and it isn't a total wallet killer. Like me, I'm going for a complete Derek Jeter Set. All games with Derek Jeter on the cover :D
Im a 2600 fan above all else and I collect a bit for alot of systems but I focus on 2600 loose games and I intend to get almost all of them, I have hundreds right now. Its a slow work in progress.
Good luck with that because the truly rare 2600 games are insanely rare, stuff like Red sea Crossing and Gamma Attack are probably in the single digit to only 10's of copies existing and they are also insanely expensive.
Congrats on completing you Imagic collection those shiny silver boxes with the awesome box art really stand out. What was the average price for a 2600 game when they first came out and what was the most expensive 2600 game?
Very nice collection and cool donations. I got a question for you. Do you happen to have Air Raid on the 2600? Just curious as that is the holy grail of the console and video games. And I agree that the 2600 and C64 are the consoles I grew up on. As well as the Odyssey II. Which I would like to find another one sometime. Great video and keep the great content coming man.
John Hancock , I have a few boxed games for the 2600. Is there a way I could send you a list to see if you need any of them. I'm a loose collector so their just fun things I picked up.
Thanks for responding. Yeah I think that is pretty much one of the most expensive and rare games out there. lol Hopefully someday you come across one. Take care.
I know it was not released retail, but do you have Atlantis II? I guess the only difference is that the cardboard box had the little white sticker on it denoting that it was Atlantis Ii and of course the cartridge has the slightly different gameplay and scoring. Just wondered if you had that one in your Imagic collection.
ah okay thank you very much john, quick question do you have an pal games in your collection? if so could you do a video about and maybe compare the PAL and NTSC versions of the games

Which version?
awesome. thank you so much for sharing this with us
I love the names of games back then. So straight forward.
I never grew up with the 2600 as it came out several decades before I was born and I'm still a huge 2600 enthusiast. Keep up these videos!

Great video John, love your passion for Atari. The idea for subset collecting is a fantastic idea and the way forward
Subset collecting can be very fun, specially if the subset has a speciall meaning for you. Thanks for the video John!
José it's starting to feel like subset collecting is all that anybody will be able to afford to do soon!

Have you ever been to the Strong Museum of Play in Rochester, NY? They have a huge collection of video game memorabilia.
Im a 2600 fan above all else and I collect a bit for alot of systems but I focus on 2600 loose games and I intend to get almost all of them, I have hundreds right now. Its a slow work in progress.

@@The_Real_DCT i dont intend to get them all , the rare ones are stupid prices.
I agree. Even up to this day. I can fire up Adventure and have a blast.
Shooting (Gallery)...ideal for ages 9 and under...only in USA
Congrats on completing you Imagic collection those shiny silver boxes with the awesome box art really stand out. What was the average price for a 2600 game when they first came out and what was the most expensive 2600 game?
Atari Museum should be in Alamogorda New Mexico.

I'm trying to sell some Atari games. Where do I start?
This saying in your shirt is about gauntlet?
Yea its from Gauntlet.
what does the coloured numbers on the boxes mean?
8 Bit MEGA-Blade how the game is itemized by company.
ah okay thank you very much john, quick question do you have an pal games in your collection? if so could you do a video about and maybe compare the PAL and NTSC versions of the games
8 Bit MEGA-Blade not a lot of pal
I always thought it was the number of game variations on the cart.
Ah I was talking about numbers on spine. Yes, the numbers you are referring to are game variations. Sorry I was talking about wrong set of numbers.
why does atari have so many crappy lables most are torn make it harder to colect never have all of them
Usually because of a combination of being poorly taken care off and the cheap glue that was used
