Another amazing video treasure! Three tenor sax giants. I was surprised to see Joe Farrell. He passed in around 1986 at age 48, or so I thought. On this ‘85 video he is playing strong and beautifully. I love all three of these immortals. Im not certain who the drummer is. Do you know?
Great video, Thank you SO much for posting. A rare treat. .... None of them sound comfortable playing this blues. From the date, it looks like Joe died a year after this video. Sad, all 3 are gone. Fortunately I got to see all 3 play. Legends RIP.
I saw Joe Henderson and Joe Farrell live before, but not Bob Berg! They all sound great! But for me, the definitive version will always be the original with Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane!
It would be nice, at some point, if you could do a video on the making of Rhythmstick, the documentary and album, which Bob Berg and Phil Wood took part in. It was an extraordinary session.
Joe Henderson came to my house in the 80s ..My dad was a well known saxophone repairer and player..I managed to speak to him very briefly.Joe told me although he was considered one of the best that he knew more about Johnny cash than Charlie Parker..amazing
In this video, Bob is playing an SBA Selmer tenor, Joe is on a Mk Vl. In 1985 , Joe was playing a Selmer SA80 tenor and Bob Berg was playing a Selmer Mk VI. Both observations make me think this is earlier than 1985, perhaps closer to 1980.
Joe Farrell for the win!
Joe was a monster.
We need more Joe Farrell videos!
Absolutely. An unsung hero.
.@@JazzVideoGuy He and Grossman are two that inspired me to choose tenor when transferring from clarinet. Joe was an underrated flautist, as well.
Yes we do indeed!!!
Joe Farrell solo, the best!!!
He has always been one of my favorite players.
👍Wow Tenor Madness Love Joe Henderson 💯🎷, Bob was killing it & Joe Ferrell was doing he thing.🎷🎷🎷outstanding.
glad you dig
Joe Henderson, my favorite!! 🔥
1:34: Berg quotes “Matrix”. Quite a triumvirate! RIP to them all.
Also: Joe Farrell would be dead in less than a year after this video was recorded. Unreal.
Joe Farrell, awesome!!!
Truly. He always played at a very high level.
Joe Farrell had the best time/feel on that night.
Joe was a monster musician who left us too soon.
You never know what Joe Henderson is going to play next
Most unpredictable
totally
Rest In peace to all 3 legends.
Another great treasure !!!
It sure is!
Thank you, Jazz Video, (RIP, Joe, Joe F., and Bob.)
2 joe
Bob!
A wonderful document of 3 late greats
Yes it was!
Un año antes de la muerte de Joe Farrell, ya estaba enfermo en ese momento. Geniales los 3!!
Tremendos!

It looked to me like it wss Louis Hayes on drums.
Just Great. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for listening
Great footage of 3 tenor monsters, with a burning rhythm section!

Great recording.

Very nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice, a bit of suspect harmony in there between the saxes at the beginning 🤣
🤙
Given the surrounding excitement, the tempo did not fail to soar..
Anybody knows the bassist?
Is that a Selmer Soloist long shank Henderson is playing? Thought he played a short shank....
Well I listen to the first 2 minutes and I'm still waiting for the rhythm section to decide where they're going to put it
Who’s the drummer?
Luis Hayes?
It's the bass player I don't know you know it can't be perfect all the time so I'm not mad
Can we all move on from selmer now PLEASE!! that horn more than it time in the sun. Js.
Nefis
Tempo nicely speeding up during the performance. Even professionals have their flaws...
All these guys are on longer with us. But if they were, they would be executed along with General Milley.

At the beginning of the clip it litteraly says Madrid 83'
Id rather play like colttane than joe henderson
Who wouldn't?
The piano must be tuned 442 Hertz ((or more) I don’t like that.
In general, I think the tempo is too fast. But apart of that: Fantastic!
