I love his head bob to you saying how awesome they are 😂 the orange and yellow on the black are gorgeous, but I have to say the orange is my favorite. Reptiles are just the best!
@David Vento During the winter they eat way less. But I do have a big ant farm ( messor barbarus) to feed during winter. Might need to add a second one, havevto see how the current one recovers from this winter 😅
@@kamielhamers3730 that's all it takes is one to knock it out of the park and the uromastyx the orange and black banded ones are breathtaking. Great job on it all
That absolutely NEON yellow and black banded kind is incredible! I usually go for orange on animals (and the orange bands were gorgeous too!) but WOW that highlighter yellow won me over hard! And omggggg it's so great to see that horned lizard husbandry is getting so good! They're my ultimate dream lizard!! If only I had the cash and constitution to live out in the desert where I can enjoy seeing them in the wild 😭
The green ornate and the orange band are definitely my favorite 💚💙 🧡🖤 Can't wait to get one of my own 😁 thanks for sharing all this helpful info with us
Thank you for re-visiting Hammerhead Reptiles! I love to see his Uromastyx. He has such a large, healthy collection of those little guys. I have a Uro and not enough “good” videos are made about them. I loved the video pre-cough cough 😷 and I was happy to see the new one pop up even though I’m 2 months late watching. 😮 Thank you and hope in a couple more years you revisit again!
Adorable. Ive considered them so many times as a cool Agamid alternative. Even the less expensive Red/Yellow are cool. But many in the US are wild caught sadly. The Ornate are beautiful and usually CBB but $$$ lol. Awesome vid! Thank you for sharing these gorgeous adorable little guys.
Absolutely worth it to get a captive born/bred animal. I had a uro that was purchased at a petstore back in 2010 that claimed he was CB. But you never know unless you get it from an actual breeder or they show proof.
For someone who keeps different species of Horned Lizards for way over a decade now ( And wrote some articles about breeding and their diet) its always nice to see that other keepers got their success - The most basic part is Ants! cheapest and easiest food to find after Herbs. Uromastyx and Phrynosoma are such a good combination regarding sourcing food - Awesome Video!
@@DoorsToHideBehind156 A couple of nests in a wide area is enough. Depending on the Species their digestive system work with a different percentage of Ants - also the number of teeth vary in terms of their hunting behavior. Phrynosoma spp. from higher and more humid places get a lot more other prey than the desert species for example P. asio has around 31% part of ants in their diet and on the other side P. solare goes with around 89% of ants in their diet.
@@DoorsToHideBehind156 @John Agen I do have a big antfarm I use to feed during winter when ants are not around outside. But luckily they do eat less during winter.

This is so cool! I love his Uro’s! Seeing the first video got me into Uromastyx and I have a healthy 2 year old male Uromastyx Geyri now:) awesome video
FOUR YEARS!!! Man, how??? That video jumpstarted my uromastyx love, and in all this time I STILL dont have gotten an appartment big enough to actually keep one (I might soon tho)
Loving the videos Dav especially the big reptile adventures to places like Bali, West Africa, Australia, Madagascar and Costa Rica. Are we going to see you in India one day finding cool Indian reptiles like the Gharial, Mugger crocs, Bengal monitor and the Big Four (Russell’s viper, Saw-scaled viper, Indian cobra and Common krait)? Sri Lanka would also be pretty cool to.
Trying to get over there. I have a lot of big travel plans coming up for the rest of the year including a place few humans have ever gone. It’s going to be amazing!
I always wanted to breed these species and add them to our collection, I just might in the future. They have cute personalities 😍 thanks for this video Dāv🤙🏽
I grew up near San Bernardino, CA and "horney toads" were all over the place... often saw little babies as well. They ate the bountiful red ants that were everywhere, especially in the tumble-weed dunes around our neighborhood. Good times.
I am obsessed with yemenensis. I have two ocellata and a baby maliensis. Might breed ocellatas so not sure it makes sense to get a yemen, but I should probably get a yemen.
People who claim reptiles are incapable of feeling emotions and merely tolerate humans clearly never told these uros that. They are actively seeking interaction with a stranger.
If I was going to have a reptile that needed heat it would be one of these I just love them ❤ and in my are we don’t have these 😢 maybe I can find one on Morph market 😊
i wish I had the right know-how (and finances) for bigger lizards like these, it would be a real toss-up between them and blue-tongues...but maybe in the future sometime. I like the high-contrast bandeds, but also the blue-tinged ornatas.
The video from a couple of years ago with this breeder is what convinced me to get my Nigerian Uromastyx. But my little dude is not so personable! How can I get mine to calm down and get used to me? I handle him but he is just not into me! lol
@@melbapeach162 I think most captive bred Uromastyx can be really friendly and personable. I would say Uromastyx ornata would be a great choice, as they are somewhat regularly bred, stay relatively small (medium sized Uromastyx) get really colorfull as males and are pretty active and curious especially when young.

Do the ants get loose in the home? Ants are a huge part of the diet, how often do you feed them? Have you ever simply ran out of ants from your yard? Is there a particular preference of ants they love? Is there a different response to other feeders?
@Baleogun Sondai Im probably not the best person to ask as phrynosoma are just a side project there are others that have been doing phrynosoma way longer. But I would not recommend them for novice keepers. Ants are about 60% of their diet, I feed ants 3 to 4 times a week during the active month from April up to oktober . mostly lasius niger from the garden. for the winter I do keep a colony of Messor barbarus ants to feed. They do eat less during the winter so That was just enough for last winter, hopefully the colony recovers, but I probably need to buy an extra one. If you use an antfeeder (box with stick) not many ant will escape. but mine don't like to eat from that so I do have so.e ants escaping every now and than. I have one animal that really eats everything that moves , from beanweavils, grasshoppers, curly flies, woodlice, but most other do prefer ants and beanweavils. hope this helps.
