I think Obi Wan didn't go crazy in the solitude of Tatooine because he connected with Qui Gon and started using the force to learn in how to be a force ghost. The hope he had in Luke was also a great motivator.
That's why he was able to do it "I made that mistake, don't you start repeating my blunders. You are supposed to learn not repeat!", or as traditionally it goes "Do as I say, not as I do"
While not exactly a Sabbatical, it shares much of the same traits. Spending time on internal reflection, asking the tough question of whether you are happy with your life or lifestyle, taking into account the current world environment and your place in it.
Looking back to your coverage of the Zigeria arc, I really do think that that event really is what saved Obi Wan, oddly enough, prepping him for the horrors to come.
I didn't see every season of The Clone Wars, so I didn't see the episode you described in which Obi-Wan had fake being killed, and had his face and voice changed to go uncover as a known criminal. That is hard for me to even imagine Obi-Wan doing. He was such a decent Jedi, and always tried to do the right thing. I can see that the war really prepared him for life on Tatooine, as he had to not use his lightsaber even to save someone from Tusken Raiders or some ramdom criminal. He really had to deal with being there to protect Luke, even from afar. Obi-Wan's experiences made up a lot of who he was.

I always thought that Anakin should have been told the truth about Obiwan undercover as soon as they got back to the temple. They needed him to think it was real to fool Hardeen, but after that, it only cut at Anakin’s trust in the Jedi
Well he didn't do a very good job of concealment in the novel 'Kenobi' by John Jackson Miller....he uses every opportunity to expose himself, becomes personally attached to the main female settler, and involves himself in personal battles between the settlers, the Tuskens, the Hutts and anyone else who gets in the way. Just changing his name would have been a good start but, he retains 'Kenobi' (duh!) But that's the Jedi way, as the Inquisitor said, "they can't help it." All in all, its an excellent read. The Tuskans have dwindled considerably by now - Ben finds out their demise all started ten years before when an entire clan was wiped out in a single night and changed the Tuskans entire outlook.... Ben reflects that that was about the time that Anniken's mother was taken and killed but that was as far as Padmé told him of the story. The ramifications of that night rippled down through the years to effect Ben's time on Tatooine.
Great video! I agree that the many conflicts and struggles Obi-wan faced were meant to prepare him to safeguard Luke from Disney--I mean, the Empire. While the events of his life certainly shaped and molded him as a person, perhaps it was the Force (its "will") that ultimately shaped him into who he became.
