This is such a treasure of an album every member has their amazing shining moment on this album especially Dennis on one of his best ballads forever I don't think Dennis ever got his due but he had one of the most amazing vocal ranges

Sunflower is my favorite Beach Boys album (above Pet Sounds). All I Wanna Do is my favorite Beach Boys song.

I think Sunflower is better than Pet Sounds. Yes I said it! I love Pet Sounds but as an adult I would rate this higher now. The Feel Flows Boxset made this era even better now.

Sunflower is an incredible album, and for me The Beach Boys never felt so together, to encapsulate their first Era." "All I wanna do" being one of the most hypnotic tracks ever is the highlight! I wanted to know if you two have ever heard of Jellyfish before, because it seems right down your alley, and it for me is a criminally underrated band from the early nineties. Take care, and continued success. Peace.

The first album of original material that came out after I first discovered The Beach Boys. I could not believe how great it was! In the UK it opens with Cotton Fields and after its success I expected the album and the UK single Tears in the Morning to be big hits? Great contributions from Dennis but then nothing of his on Surf's Up?
Thanks for the review and for your love of The Beach Boys!

Dennis pulled his songs from Surf's Up due to a group argument. He had 4th of July, Lady, Sound of Free and Wouldn't It Be Nice to Live Again in the can. There's an article from Dennis on the internet from the 70's. I guess Carl said they needed some Brian songs too. Mike had two: Don't Go Near The Water and Student Demonstration Time, Al had two: Take a Load Off Your Feet and Looking At Tommorrow, Carl had two: Feel Flows and Long Promised Road and Brian had three: A Day In the Life of a Tree, Til' I Die and Surf's Up. It was Carl who argued that it should close with Surf's Up. Dennis got outnumbered.

Everyone blethers on about Pet Sounds but this along with Wild Honey and Surfs Up are incredible. Pet Sounds is less of a band album than these for sure.
