  • The decision to change the lighting system arose from the need to fully express the true value and meaning of the worldwide known art work in the chapel.
A project such as the lighting of the Sistine Chapel involves two - often contradictory - aspects: On the one hand the ideal lighting for the enjoyment of the paintings is needed, on the other hand lighting must not be invasive nor cause conservation problems. The lighting of the Sistine Chapel is a pilot project with the working title of LED4Art, supported by the European Funding Program for Information and Communication Technology within the Framework Program for Competitiveness and Innovation (PSP-CIP).

I’m not a religious person, but I do appreciate great art. I would love to stand in the presence of such wonderful works and imagine the artists there toiling away at their immortality.

I'm not religious either and I have visited this chapel. If you visit may I suggest that you go in October, otherwise you will be inundated with too many other visitors. Also, give it time... when you're standing there and looking up... let the grandeur of it dawn on you at a doable pace. It really is something else.

im not in the slightest bit religious but i love art and the church have always been the biggest patrons of art. the sistine chapel is the most amazing place on earth. i have been to see it 3 times in my life. the paintings are out of this world. theres always so many people they try and get you in and out as quick as possible but dont go. wait til you see an empty seat and grab it and spend 10 minutes just staring up at the ceiling. its difficult to appreciate fully while your standing up craning your neck. its like nothing you have ever seen before. there are beautiful works of art all over the world that are worth travelling to see but only in the cappella sistina can you step inside the painting

my other favourite ceiling in rome in the chirch of the gesu. i have no idea why its not more famous than it is because its the most amazing 3d painting i have ever seen and its over 400 years old and high up on a ceiling. it took me at least 10 minutes for my eyes to realise that what i was looking at were frescos on the celing and not actual paintings, cut to shape and suspended from the roof. its a fair few years later than michelangelos sistine chapel ceiling

The new lights and restoration give it a cartoon-"anime" look to me; and I like it even more.

Un'emozione che si ripete. il ricordo che durerà una vita, l'onore per esserne stato parte.
Complimenti a tutti e grazie per l'esperienza professionale ed umana che ne è derivata.
