This movie released on Netflix today and I just finished watching. I just can’t come to terms with this song. Knowing Sonu is already a genius and then this is beyond even that. I had tears, goosebumps, every emotion. This maestro, legend, and genius deserves every award for this song in 2024
National Award for Sonu Nigam. I have no words. When he starts the song with 'Bhola bhala' you can feel childlike innocence, when he says 'zehreele sapnon ne, mere hi apno ne dhoka diya' there's palpable betrayal coming through the speakers, when he says 'mere dholna sunn' you can hear decision, when he says 'meri nafratein tho fizaa main bahengi' you feel hatred, when says 'ek nark tha' twice the first time it was emotional and the second time it was driving the point home. Then the alaap and then the sargam. After listening to the sargam almost 20 times I have comed to realise it has vikrit notes (as in the dha is lower and the ma is higher in the same line). To think that this man sang it all in quick succession and in perfect surr is god level. Also there have been use of multiple raagas in this song (if someone may, please tell me what are they). If this is not Mahadev singing himself, I do not know what else to call it. I do not know if this is the most melodious rendition of the song, but no version of this has been so intense. This song will be remembered for years.

At 1:09 "Dholna Sunn" That "Sunn" was not like any other word in the song, it was like affirmation. It was not like begging someone to listen but telling someone that you have to listen. That "nafarte" at 1:20 decided the whole mood of the song. At 2:36 when first time he sang "ek nark tha", he did fews harkate, but when 2nd time he sang " ek nark tha" there was no harkat , it was so straight and you can feel the anger arising. The mood completely changed at 2:57 All the revenge , All the hatred along with voice modulations came in his 2nd anatara. And alap just before the start of the sargam was absolutely amazing.

You can learn to sing the part before the sargam with great difficulty and expert guidance in 2-3 days...but even 2 months might not suffice for the sargam part. The voice modulations, expressions, breath management along with that control over murqiyas and chord shifts throughout the song can leave you speechless. Every re-listen of the song is a masterclass in itself!!
