  • Closest Finish in Indianapolis history? might just be!
    Margin of victory .0026 and 4-wide for Dempsey. This is likely the greatest finish in the history of racing.
    What the heck!! what an amazing finish this is! 4 Cars all side by side to the finish! amazing finish, a great guy in Peter Dempsey to win the race, beating Gabby Chavez Carlos Munoz and Sage Karam to the line!

    Great stuff man. I wish Indy was world wide. The cars look great, drivers are willing to fight, and nu stupid trickery like KERS and DRS; just racing. This is so much more fun than F1.
    Some better drivers, car manufacturer involvement and it will push off F1 with ease.

      Indy Lights is crazy dangerous still though.

    • @tsujimasen
      @tsujimasen 10 лет назад +2

      Why would you need car manufacturer involvement? Indy is like GP2, a spec series.
      If you want to watch good drivers battle it out, watch Indy / GP2.
      If you want to watch the pinnacle technology and the battle between manufacturers and drivers, watch F1.
      Different strokes.

    • @djoetma
      @djoetma 10 лет назад

      tsujimasen I like the battle between manufacturers. Different engines, images, different people, different innovations, etc.

    • @tsujimasen

      ***** Then watching Indy shouldn't be for you. ;)

    • @djoetma
      @djoetma 10 лет назад

      tsujimasen Maybe that's why I dind't go through the trouble to watch it by downloading it or using proxies. :)
      It's just that I love F1, but with all the crap they introduced over the last years, I don't like it anymore. I just want to see manufacturers and talented drivers fight.
      But true, with different manufacturers, the cars (and thus probably performance) won't be the same.

    How is it that Karam, Chavez, Munoz and Veach (2nd-5th) got a shot at Indycar but the race winner Dempsey never did???

    • @Posirep
      @Posirep 6 лет назад +1

      Cuz this was literally Dempsey's best race. Karam and Chavez were Lights champions and got the automatic berth to IndyCar and Munoz and Veach were just straight up talented(in fact, Munoz would finish 2nd in the Indy 500 just 2 days after this race as a rookie)...Veach just never had the funding really to compete a full lights season.
      Plus Dempsey was 27 when he won this race. For example...Carlos Munoz just turned 26 this year and was about 20 at the time of this race and he's the oldest of Karam/Veach/Chavez/Munoz group....so they were all essentially kids at the time of this race...Hell, Karam and Veach were 17 at the time of this race...so a 27 year old man beating some teenagers isnt that cool

    Each is great in it's own right.
    Oval, high speed tracks are challenging for the fact that the slightest error results in hugh, fast movements. It requires extreme bravery and a steely hand to stay in control and be aggresive.
    Road courses are difficult for their quick and precise acceleration and decceleration. The driver must be almost super human to consistently hold the right times, and every piece of the car and road are ever changing factors in a near perfect equation.
    I enjoy them both.

    Finishes like this in NASCAR or Indycar/Indylights get F1 fans jealous because they know F1 will never be as exciting.

    I watched the last 10 laps live yesterday. Not more than 4 or 5 minutes earlier, the announcers were all but discounting Dempsey, who was running 4th at the time.
    As for NASCAR, Indy and F1 - I'm a recent American fan of openwheel racing, having pretty much ignored all auto racing for most of my 5+ decades. I'll watch NASCAR races, but the technology and tracks don't appeal to my interests.
    Also love the Audi LMP1's of LeMans.

    You are correct...........could you imagine this race with 33 cars starting the event? Maybe a lot of yellows but lots of great racing too.

    I find normally oval races boring, but this was pretty exciting!

    The 6-vehicle finish with the six being covered by .306 of a second was the first race of the European pickups at Rockingham U.K. on Sept. 9th, 2006. It's on a DH Video. There may have been closer finishes in NASCAR, but this must be the closest mass finish outside the U.S.A. I was there. Oval tracks provide closer finishes, on average, than wiggly tracks.

    The closest SIX vehicle finish I am aware of was at a Rockingham (U.K.) oval race when six U.K. pickup trucks finished covered by .306 of a second. So that was three wide, followed by three wide. There was once a triple dead-heat for Legend cars at the Mallory Park oval but that was before transponders were fitted in the cars, I believe.
    If anyone can find that pickup finish on RUclips please let us know.

    Good finish. Reminds me of the 2011 Aaron's 499 finish with the four wide and all.
