    I really appreciate the tool, amazing software. But on the other hand, it takes out the soul of diggin in the crates and discovering samples... I love the convinence of sampling 100% digitally, I do it all the time, but nothing beats the satisfaction that comes from diggin through 100 records to find a cover and genre you think might hold some heat, get it home, play through it, discover hidden gems and find a way to make it work.
    The whole "listen to sample, add generic drum loop over it to see if it works" basically makes the beat for you, takes out so much guess work and imagination.

      “Here’s your curated list of acceptable music for your inspiration. We have preselected a loop from it, and for your convenience we have also provided drums for you as well. Actually, fuck off, we’ll just release it ourselves.”

      Yeah, digging for samples the old school way is a lot of fun and an artform by itself, I totally agree. I personally love using Tracklib for stuff that I post publicly since I can actually clear the sample. It just makes it easier to sleep at night, not having to worry about the legal stuff :)
      This new feature can be used in a lot of different ways, but for me it's nothing but a tool to get me inspired.
      I get your point though, it's totally valid

    • @thunderthumbz3293

      Your missing like the entire point. If you publish a beat using samples that are not cleared its stealing. Tracklib tries to provide cleared samples so this is not an issue. If you dont care about stealing then it reflects on a moral issue you don't understand.

    • @joshualane1716

      @@thunderthumbz3293 oh boy are you in the wrong genre if you’re going to talk about framing uncleared samples as big moral issue with small time producers. Nearly every single major producer who uses samples got their start doing it this way. Tracklib, Kingsway, etc. are very recent developments, and prior to that no one was clearing samples in the begging of their career because they’re too broke to afford it. Hell, even now it happens. Old Town Road got it’s start as an uncleared sample. Make the music you want to make and worry about clearing the samples either once your portfolio is big enough to merit it or once one of your uncleared songs starts to get attention.
      Not to mention, there’s a thousand more significant moral issues in music and hip hop business than no-name producers not dropping ten grand on a sample clearance to a track no one will ever hear.

    • @thunderthumbz3293
      @thunderthumbz3293 2 года назад

      @@joshualane1716 Its still stealing. Justifying stealing, guess what, still makes it stealing. Hip hop having a tradition of stealing doesn't make it legitimate.

    Tracklib making a fortune out of your everyday Joe making beats as a hobby in the hope it'll blow up. Just do your thing and use any source available, back in the 80's, 90's & early 2000's people weren't using any services like tracklib, if they were we wouldn't have all the classic songs that sampled classic songs from way back in the day.

      They provide a needed service. To use samples without paying the copyright owner is stealing. This is why people didn't like hip hop because it was unoriginal and ultimately stealing real artists music. Those artists who got sampled for actual creations deserve to be compensated.

    I'm glad you bring up using "cleared" samples. I keep seeing all of these RUclips videos on sampling from records, yet no indication that the person is getting their samples properly cleared. Either they just don't know that they should, don't think they will get caught, or whatever. I also keep seeing comments from people wanting to find samples themselves off records and to hell with sites like this. If you are just sampling and making beats "for fun" and your own amusement, good for you, but some people want to sell their work, and you HAVE to clear your samples. Not sure what the confusion is about this fact. Nice video as always man!

    • @AccurateBeats
      @AccurateBeats  2 года назад +4

      That's right and one of my main reasons to appreciate Tracklib. Clearing samples in the "old fashioned" way is such an mess and not always even possible to do. I think a lot of people doesn't know about the issues here and decides to just not care about it, which can put you in a world of problems... I might go deeper into this topic at some point but it's definitely worth mentioning!
      Thank you 😊

    • @mhmmarcusmoods
      @mhmmarcusmoods 2 года назад +5

      Catching some weird tones in your comment. Folks like myself who are not clearing samples aren't doing that because we don't understand the legality behind it or we think we're too slick to get caught or whatever. It's much simpler than that: it's cause we're poor, it's cause we're not signed, we don't have a following to make the track blow up, etc. It's a cost/benefit analysis. We roll the dice in making the music we want to make without permission, because the risk/reward of being able to make and publish good music on the oversaturated internet without getting caught outweighs the risk/reward of not making and publishing good music at all. Which is more or less what the founders of hip hop did anyway.
      Regardless, we cannot afford the $2,000 or $5,000 or $10,000 or more to clear a sample, especially if we're just throwing it onto RUclips where maybe two hundred people or less might hear it. Saying you HAVE to clear your samples constrains the act of sampling (via tradition crate digging, via vinyl or digitally) to the uber elite producers who have already made it and have those funds, forcing the rest of the underground to either abandon the practice of sample, or be consigned to dig through mountains of generic pre-curated garbage on Tracklib or wherever. (I know there's some decent stuff on these sites, but that funnels a lot of people over a limited number of tracks, much of which just isn't interesting.)
      Professional producers can and should play by the rules. If I was a successful producer with all the connections I needed to sell any good track I made, I would happily clear every single sample, because those artists absolutely do deserve their money. But until that point, I'm not going to not sample stuff that inspires me to sample just because I don't have $10,000 lying around to drop on one track.
      Finally, 0% of the revenue from tracks I don't make at all will net the artist exactly $0 and 0 new followers. Artists have the potential to benefit from no-name producers sampling them. Speaking of which, if I released a track that garnered enough attention to get hit with a cease & desist/forced to fork over revenue from streaming, than I'm probably on the right track. Take a look at "Old Town Road", which neither Young Kio nor Lil Nas X bothered to clear the Nine Inch Nails "34 Ghosts IV" banjo. It still absolutely worked out well for all involved. Everybody got their money.
      Peace.

    • @Sparks3D
      @Sparks3D 2 года назад +1

      @@mhmmarcusmoods Quite the comment my man. What I should have suggested is just the alternative to sampling. No one needs to sample old records is my point. I would suggest investing in a couple drum machines, synthesizers,and beat production hardware. I see no issue with sampling from records, laying out the foundation for a track and then replacing the original samples with your own gear as long as your version isn't also copying the note progression and/or Rhythm, etc. But I won't agree that the reason for sampling copyrighted works is because of lack of income. No better way to get a nice hefty fine than ripping off other people's work. Like any artist, use the old records for inspiration, getting the basic groove going and then make it your own with your own gear imo. Making music is an investment in time, money or whatever just like any other kind of job or hobby. Needing to clear samples isn't anything new, ask Vanilla Ice who pays 50% of his money from the Ice Ice Baby song to Queen and David Bowie because he just didn't understand clearing samples.

    • @mhmmarcusmoods
      @mhmmarcusmoods 2 года назад +3

      @@Sparks3D Paying out 50% of that “Ice Ice Baby” is better than keeping 100% of nothing. That song literally made him. He would have never had a career without it, and you’re suggesting he shouldn’t have done it? Hell, if he had to pay out 100% it would have still be worth it. It was absolutely the best move he ever made. Same for anyone else in that early stage of their career. Like I said, that’s how we got Old Town Road. Lil Nas X could have not earned a single cent from the royalties fallout and I’d hope he would have still taken the opportunity. If you’re making enough noise with your uncleared flips to receive C&D, fines, absurdly high percentage royalty payouts, etc., you’re already on the right track. The folks who are big enough to worth going after are the ones who get to pay up.
      Finally, the history and art of this process is important all on its own. We have to keep this sample shit going. It’s not about a lack of “inspiration”. Folks can and do still make great tracks without it. But there’s a whole craft and texture coming from sampling, especially other peoples work. There’s plenty of room for both. It’s bizarre to hear anyone who actually cares about the genre of hip hop criticize the practice that literally made it what it is.

      @Sparks3D 2 года назад

      @@mhmmarcusmoods Advocating breaking copyright laws to "make it" sounds like the worst advice to give to a starting artist I've ever heard. Better advice would be to use samples for inspiration, take the time to learn and understand how the sounds are made, then swap them out with your own instruments, chord progression, and timing. If you don't have the skills to do that, ask someone for help (music teacher, sales person at a music store, RUclips, etc.)

      Guess you shouldn't sample if you can't handle the legal stuff. The fact is that you can't copy other people's music, not 1 minute, 10 seconds, or 1 second without clearing samples. At least Tracklib is making an attempt to try to make the process of clearing samples easier. This isn't any different from using stock photography for graphic design. If you are sampling for fun, nothing is stopping you, but if you want to make money from your samples/music and you didn't create the sounds from scratch, welcome to the real world of having to pay for what you didn't make yourself. This license/clearing stuff is pretty standard for professional musicians.
