I am glad you did not announce your return by blowing up a 55gal drumb. Wrong! The spark is enough to ignight the vumes. Think spark plug on a gass weed trimmer ( small spark, engine runs, must ignight the gas)
What can happen with 50 mm of gasoline. I could probably pie out a small fire. But there was a bucket of water standing by and the garden hose was only a few meter away.
Hopefully when this pandemic is truly over I can watch you buy some more classic lathes to show us. Got to say the “wibely woobly wood lathe“ still #1 for me!

It is still standing outside in a bucket of water. I'll try to finish it this year, but honestly I don't see a whole lot of wood turning in my future, I'll probably sell the wood lathe :)
I used to use full sized oil barrels for garden waste burning bins, But here in the wet and windy UK, If you're not going to bring it inside during the winter they rot out before the following year. Then one day while having a poke about in my friendly local scrap metal dealers yard, I found an old vertical compressor tank. It was about 600mm across and 900mm deep. It was too rusty for anyone to risk using it as a pressure vessel anymore, But once I cut the top off and drilled the lower 1/3 with a shedload of 30mm holes it became the best garden/household waste incinerator I've ever had. I made it about 10 years ago now, and it's finally starting to get a little thin in a few places, But I reckon it's easily still got at least another 2 or 3 years of use in it before I have to look for another tank. It's a bit heavy, But still not unmanageably so when it comes to emptying out the ash, and that's a slight inconvenience I'm perfectly willing to overlook for the benefit of not having to prat about making new oil drum burners every damn year. Old compressor tanks turn up pretty cheap if they're damaged, rusty, or in that "Too big for a hobbyist, But too small for a company" category, so I'd definatly recommend having a think about grabbing one when you need to make your next incinerator.
I tried to get another big expansion reservoir from a industrial central heating system but they were all gone. But these two half's will last me 5 of 6 years :)

That magnet, put some plastic zip lock bags on it, so when you have finished picking up the metal you just peel the bags off and the metal falls away cleanly.
Composting or burning, it's all the same co2. And I don't think having a separate garbage truck come by to collect this stuff is smart. That won't help the environment. And please don't start about green energy out of wood and such. That's just a huge scam! :)
@@Rolingmetal Oh I agree. Landfills are not the answer as .much of garbage now is tainted with toxins. Soon I plan on relocating to the Republic of Texas and living out of the city.. It's one of the few places that still allow one to live a simple life... Minnesota has too many rules and regulations.

Do you know the autignition point of gasoline? 280 °C (536 °F) I wouldn’t”t be happy with that smoke coming off the drill :-(. Chips turn blue at 300 °C. I’ve been stood close to a petrol tank that was too close to being welded and it went bang quite scary!
That smoke indicates the fuels being vaporised. The flash point of petrol vapour is only 21 °C (70 °F), But it's OK as long as it doesn't encounter a spark............ Like the ones that drills brushes are causing pretty much constantly !!!
I actually knew of someone who died a terrible death cutting apart steel 55 gal. drums in the British Virgin Islands. He was a very handy islander and possibly he got the drums mixed up or something.... but anyway you can't be too safe in these situations. Water all the way to the top!
@@Rolingmetal I heard ages back from a Dutch guy I did some work for that clogs are one of very few pieces of unusual historical national clothing that's still actually routinely worn by a nation. He pointed out that no modern German would go to work wearing lederhosen, and few Frenchmen would go out wearing a beret these days, but a lot of Dutch people still wear clogs as everyday shoes because a well made pair are comfortable, last for years, are easy to look after, and can protect more of your foot from every day dropped items than simple steel toecap shoes. I only brought up the subject because he had a well worn pair next to his kitchen door. It struck me as odd because they looked too damaged to be ornaments, and in an odd place if they were........... Turned out that since he'd moved to the UK and his English wife didn't like him wearing clogs as every day footwear anymore, they'd now become his "Gardening Clogs". :)
At least you live in a county where you are allowed to burn off leaves and trimmings, if I were to do that where I live I would end up in jail or at minimum a large fine!
Out of interest, Roughly where abouts in the world are you? I've heard that some places in the states won't even allow you to use a barbecue in your own garden (That sounds a tad draconian to me. Only a few small steps away from the police breaking down your door for watching unapproved comedy shows), But here in the UK it's more along the lines of "Even if what you're burning is not strictly allowed, the police will ignore you doing it unless someone complains". A few times I've not had my bin out waiting at the curb for the twice monthly rubbish collection, and I've ended up needing to burn all the household waste I can for the next 2 weeks because if I didn't, when the bin was finally emptied, all the accumulated rubbish from that time would just fill it up again in one go ! Some of the stuff I incinerated wasn't strictly allowed to be burnt at a home address (Plastics off raw meat mainly), But as I said, If no one complains it's not a problem.

I can have an open fire if it is for recreational purposes, so I have to have a long stick and marshmallows or wieners, a few adult beverages and folding chairs. Then I can burn trimmings, in the desert we don’t get many leaves but the mesquite trees need to be trimmed a few times a year!

You are pretty good at this youtube thing :) We do have a compost bin, but there are just to many leave. And they are oak, so they last a long time before they rot.

The RUclips thing is harder than it looks but I was expecting that. I’m starting to get the hang of the editing. I enjoy your videos. You do a great job.
I probably should fell that big oak tree at some point. It's rather close to the barn and the shade is not good for the reeds. One video tip I just learned, audio is probably just as important as video :)

I agree, it is hard to judge without lot's practice. I only found out recent how important good audio is. I suggest you start, like me, by raising the levels in certain parts. And a little extra bass won't hurt, as people in general, like that. I use a free program called audacity to edit the sound. But it does cost a lot of time to listen and edit. The microphone only cost me 25 dollar and it made a big difference. But my camera had an audio in connector. Most won't

Why did you keep the cutter on the arbour?.
It would have fitted the chuck and ran truer with just the arbour.
