  • There's a saying old
    Says that love is blind
    Still we're often told
    Seek and ye shall find
    So I'm going to seek
    A certain lad
    I've had in mind
    Looking everywhere
    Haven't found him yet
    He's the big affair
    I cannot forget
    Only man I ever think
    Of with regret
    I'd like
    To add his inital
    To my monogram
    Tell me
    Where is the shepherd
    For this lost lamb?
    There's a somebody
    I'm longin' to see
    I hope that he turns
    Out to be
    Someone to watch over me
    I'm a little lamb
    Who's lost in the wood
    I know I could
    Always be good
    To one
    Who'll watch over me
    Although he may
    Not be the man some
    Girls think
    Of as handsome
    To my heart
    He carries the key
    Won't you tell him please
    To put on some speed
    Follow my lead
    Oh, how I need
    Someone to watch over me
    Won't you tell him please
    To put on some speed
    Follow my lead
    Oh, how I need
    Someone to watch over me
    Someone to watch over me

I can't remember who was being interviewed... But he had met Amy, and they started talking about Jazz. And her knowledge was encycopediatric. He couldn't believe it. She knew who had played bass on some recording from 1954, and could debate whether that bassist was more suitable than another bassist who had recorded the same piece a week later... Maybe I'm losing you. But it point was, that she was an absolute Jazz Aficionado.

It's just a goddamned shame that sister Amy didn't really have someone to watch over her. That woman had more talent in her little finger than 90% of all American pop bands put together.

Why is everyone always giving Americans shit. Jazz is American. Pop is American. You can hear American culture in our music. But you've got to breathe the air here to feel the freedom we sing. It is in our mind constantly here and from birth it is whispered in our ear. It cannot be imitated. Good copy-cats exist, and, you can hear her piecing-together distinct sounds and styles of other great singers. Nothing original here. So shit on another country.

The voice of the century, her phrasing, inflections, and her breathing, her timing and spacing of her notes, all underscore the genius she possessed and the incredible beauty she brought out every time she sang. Amy could have sang from the NYC phone book and made it a thing of beauty. Instead of bemoaning her death and what we may have lost, let's celebrate her amazing work.

***** Hi there. A "standard" is what folks have come to call a song that is/was in the general public repertoire, not really linked to one particular artist. It's a song that everybody performs. "My Funny Valentine" would be considered a standard, whereas "She Loves You" (Beatles) would be a cover.

Nice! A little more dangerous and rebellious than the liquid chocolate coming from Ella's voice. It would be wrong of me to compare. Sadly, Amy did not get the chance to mature into one of the great ladies of Jazz - but what she has left us is more than enough!

Emotions are a wonderful thing, they reach down into the soul, creating a plethora of feelings that cannot truly be explained - all welling up to create that wonderful ecstatic pain within heart and chest. If one is incapable of shedding a tear from an emotional pain - one cannot truly be a human being. Let the tears flow my friend, let not the cynics cloud your space, feel free to shed your emotions and be damned with them - after all, are you not living on a higher plateau? Kindest regards, Bill.

If it would be wrong of you to compare, let me step in an take the burden from you.
Ella Fitzgerald is the greatest female singer of the last 100 years.
There's Ella and then there's everyone else.
Amy Winehouse is pretty great. I wish she had a happier life and had lived long enough to... you know, I just wish she'd been happier and lived.
      But she's not Ella.
On the other hand, I Cheated Myself is a really really great song.

With the recent passing of another special person, Robin Williams, - actor, comedian, humanitarian, I ask why is that these fantastically talented geniuses are tormented in the way they were. God gives someone something unique, but why does He allow that person to suffer because of it.

Amy Winehouse's voice is a God-given talent. She was in a class by herself and could have surpassed all the singers who sang jazz, rock 'n roll, and that genre. I am 67 and and have become a fan of hers after my children raved about her. The way she presented her songs will be timeless. Her voice was all the musical adjectives. WOW!!!

I see that people are disputing here on the quality of our lovely Amy. Nobody expects every other to love or like her, as there are always some marginal people around for dislike or even hatred. However we have to keep in mind that every classification always ignores the marginality, regardless of it's being highly positive or negative. If their perception is so much down on the floor not to realise Amy's variety of natural voice effects from foggy, smoky and slurry to sharp and crystal clear, as well as her superior tuning even in concerts, their criticism will have no solid base at all for dislike. Neverthless, we should also consider the fact that full perception of her will take some time, and every deep love is initiated first by dislike.

+Tanzer Başar The thing is, good or bad, so much about how you feel about it is not the music itself but what you project on to it.

    • @TanzerBasar
      @TanzerBasar 8 лет назад

+Bob Wrotenstien That is true..At that time of the comment I had specifically written it as a reply to some others, criticising Amy and her style of making music. On the other hand, if you intend to find I have more than 2000! comments on Amy's footages here on YT, solely praising Amy, her talent, her musical capability as well as blaming people around her, including officials , her family and her permanent doctor for why she is not among us anymore.

    • @bobwrotenstien315
      @bobwrotenstien315 8 лет назад +1

+Tanzer Başar By far this the most moving and original phrasing on this song I have heard. All the former big names sang similar arrangements designed to highlight their sweet and clear voices with usually with some strings dropped in for color, but this one makes you believe the story being told. Maybe if I lived back then, clarity is what would do it for me.

What a talent! What is it about self destructive jazz greats?!? I've often wondered if there is some bizarre mechanism that counterbalances brilliant creativity with pathological destructiveness... like the kid who spends all day building a sandcastle then smashes it to bits.

Mental health , addictions, demons hand in hand with money, becoming celebrities… too many things combined and if not truly addressed can turn into a death spiral … nobody wishes to die but if your mental strength is not there you cannot make it.it’s a ruthless industry , to make money you have to tour , smile, give interviews, bare your soul on stage night after night … fight press , rumours and lies and if you don’t have mechanisms to cope with that it triggers the very worst … she wanted to be a mother … while saying that she would laugh and look down like not really believing that would ever happen for her… really heartbreaking…
