- There's a saying old
Says that love is blind
Still we're often told
Seek and ye shall find
So I'm going to seek
A certain lad
I've had in mind
Looking everywhere
Haven't found him yet
He's the big affair
I cannot forget
Only man I ever think
Of with regret
I'd like
To add his inital
To my monogram
Tell me
Where is the shepherd
For this lost lamb?
There's a somebody
I'm longin' to see
I hope that he turns
Out to be
Someone to watch over me
I'm a little lamb
Who's lost in the wood
I know I could
Always be good
To one
Who'll watch over me
Although he may
Not be the man some
Girls think
Of as handsome
To my heart
He carries the key
Won't you tell him please
To put on some speed
Follow my lead
Oh, how I need
Someone to watch over me
Won't you tell him please
To put on some speed
Follow my lead
Oh, how I need
Someone to watch over me

I wish she’d had someone to watch over her. Imagine all the American songbook and jazz standard covers she could’ve done 😍
❤❤❤
She would have been one the great jazz interpreters. Already is -- despite her short career.
Yea, I'm not partially a Jazz fan, but I loved Amy singing it. I could listen to Jazz all day long if Amy was singing.
I can't remember who was being interviewed... But he had met Amy, and they started talking about Jazz. And her knowledge was encycopediatric. He couldn't believe it. She knew who had played bass on some recording from 1954, and could debate whether that bassist was more suitable than another bassist who had recorded the same piece a week later... Maybe I'm losing you. But it point was, that she was an absolute Jazz Aficionado.
LOL. Encyclopedic, not encycopediatric.
@@JustMe-999a nazi grammar detected get a grip
It was ?uestlove being interviewed
I appreciate you my friend.
This is so cool! I didnt know this
Damn, she could easily nail jazz standards on a global level.
Body and Soul with Tony Bennett
Marvin Parks: American Jazz Singer yes!
Absolutely! One of Bennett's best in the "duet series"...
she did!
she was the best jazz singer of our time
It's just a goddamned shame that sister Amy didn't really have someone to watch over her. That woman had more talent in her little finger than 90% of all American pop bands put together.
sooo true
I wish I could give your comment a thousand thumbs up..No singer today even comes close to the natural born talent that Amy possessed ...
Why is everyone always giving Americans shit. Jazz is American. Pop is American. You can hear American culture in our music. But you've got to breathe the air here to feel the freedom we sing. It is in our mind constantly here and from birth it is whispered in our ear. It cannot be imitated. Good copy-cats exist, and, you can hear her piecing-together distinct sounds and styles of other great singers. Nothing original here. So shit on another country.
Don't be silly, there are many good singers out there. And listening to this it's pleasant, but there are far better about - listen to Ella herself for example
Agree
The voice of the century, her phrasing, inflections, and her breathing, her timing and spacing of her notes, all underscore the genius she possessed and the incredible beauty she brought out every time she sang. Amy could have sang from the NYC phone book and made it a thing of beauty. Instead of bemoaning her death and what we may have lost, let's celebrate her amazing work.
All I know is that Billie and Ella welcomed her with open arms.
She is an absolute Legend. But Whitney Houston is the greatest voice of all time.
Amy Winehouse so far is the best singer of the 21st century
YEAHHH¡
100%
YES
I can never and will never get enough of this lady.....
Lamb4Life yet she couldn’t give us enough.... 😔😪
Great song, after seeing her documentary "Amy", I wish she had more people that watched over her tragic life.
Same with Janis. I always wish someone had looked out for her.
Her starlet gold digger daddy
where can i watch the documentary?
This is not only music..That sound, that voice, that technique..All this sensuousness , full of emotion which can neither be an outcome of exhaustive education, nor training.. She is actually the original, the reference sample of the jazz itself submitted to us.
RIP Amy Winehouse. I miss her and her music. I hate that so many people are dying from alcohol poisoning and drug overdoses. :/
agreed. so sad.

Lack of a spiritual life... Its sad. They have it all, but then there is no piece of mind.
They probably just killed her as they do a lot of trouble artists.
@@teahgurl They kill themselves. The substances take a toll on their hearts... and when things finally seem to be on the up, their heart eventually does give in. No conspiracy.
I don't know why some of you are trashing Adele. Adele loved Amy and much of her music/career was influenced by Amy.
Don't trash one artist just to bring value to another because both are great.
Both are great artists but Amy is just way better. 😊
To daraxiong, Adele sold her soul to Satan for fame and fortune, now she has talent fame and riches.
Yes. Agreed.
Nah, Adele is mediocre, Amy is one of a kind.
She was a real jazz singer ❤️
1,000,000 % agree!!!
"Where is the shepherd for this lost lamb?"
Sadly a very apt lyric for Amy
Too good for this world.
Beloved sweet Amy, such a loss , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
Philly, thanks for having her posted in such a beautiful version !!!!!!!
Cynthia Strasse You're welcome Mine! Hope all is well for you x
***** Countin' with a truthful friend makes all that difference indeed, whether in "real time" or virtually. You've shown me through the years you are one I can trust. True friendship is forever. Thank you Philly, truly.
Minerva González You're too kind Mine, but thank you so much for your sincerity.
I'm sorry I haven't been very active on here recently but even so I would never desert my true friends. xx
Notice how the tempo increases as the song progresses? Starts off as a calm ballad, ending with this goddess swinging the s**t out of it. 100% talent. 0% auto-tune. In other words, the complete opposite of most of today's "singers".
I’d take Amy any day over those “singers”!
Her voice truly touches my soul..her passing is such a tragedy
Awesome God Given Talent. Amy is in the class of the greats, Dinah Washington, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald etc. So fantastic, so beautiful. Rest In Peace Amy and Thank you so much of sharing your terrific talents with us. God Bless.
I didn't discover her until after she died. Hints of Billie Holiday, but more lyrical. What a talent! The world is poorer with her gone. So sad.
I was having a listen to Grace Kelly and wasn't satisfied so I made my way back here. Nobody does jazz like Amy. A legend.
That final 'SOMEone to watch oh-oh-ver me' (03:56-04:05) is where you can hear that sweet desperation in her voice. Best part of the song.
Floored! I knew that this woman had talent however I had never heard her version of this song until now and I am blown away.
She did an amazing job with this song! I am sorry we lost her so soon.
Gershwin wrote this tune, not Ella Fitzgerald! It's a Jazz standard, not a 'cover'. Many greats sang this tune, Ella was just one of them. It's from a musical. :)
And Sarah Vaughan did it best!
Amy oh amy.... you silly girl. You were so talented and beautiful... This rendition is absolute GOLD. At 3:31 Amy just SLAYS it with her sassy voice. She is one of the few that can make you FEEL the lyrics.
Koola King True that.
Koola King Addiction is a mental issue. She wasn't silly at all. It's sad.
I love how the piano follows every phrase she sings. She is perfect and the band waits for what she tells
Jesus, what we lost. I'm crying at the beauty and pathos of this. Free at last, sweet Amy.
everytime I hear her I shed tears...
This isn't a cover. It's a standard.
burpo Ever hear of the Gershwin's?
burpo SEMANTICS PLEASE...
burpo what's the difference? because she's covering a classic song?
***** Hi there. A "standard" is what folks have come to call a song that is/was in the general public repertoire, not really linked to one particular artist. It's a song that everybody performs. "My Funny Valentine" would be considered a standard, whereas "She Loves You" (Beatles) would be a cover.
burpo You have much to learn, friend.
Nice! A little more dangerous and rebellious than the liquid chocolate coming from Ella's voice. It would be wrong of me to compare. Sadly, Amy did not get the chance to mature into one of the great ladies of Jazz - but what she has left us is more than enough!
Emotions are a wonderful thing, they reach down into the soul, creating a plethora of feelings that cannot truly be explained - all welling up to create that wonderful ecstatic pain within heart and chest. If one is incapable of shedding a tear from an emotional pain - one cannot truly be a human being. Let the tears flow my friend, let not the cynics cloud your space, feel free to shed your emotions and be damned with them - after all, are you not living on a higher plateau? Kindest regards, Bill.
If it would be wrong of you to compare, let me step in an take the burden from you.
Ella Fitzgerald is the greatest female singer of the last 100 years.
There's Ella and then there's everyone else.
Amy Winehouse is pretty great. I wish she had a happier life and had lived long enough to... you know, I just wish she'd been happier and lived.
But she's not Ella.
On the other hand, I Cheated Myself is a really really great song.
+Rackety Boom I cheated myself is not a song the song is You Know Im No Good
It should be " You Know I'm So Good" coz she doesn't know how good she was!
Amy is the greatest singer/lyricist/artist/performer. Hendrix, James Brown, Beatles are here rivals.
Damn she was good.
She kills Adele in my opinion! Adele is amazing, but she doesn't touch this level! God bless Amy! RIP angelic vocal angel!
Adele has a good technique but listening to amy is just lovely, she sounds so natural.
As long as she's wasn't drugged out and drunk as she was wont to do in some of her live performances, but both of them are legends.
Thomas Wiley Absolutely!
You covered it... She was a vocal angel!
I agree....the one problem I have with Amy's singing is that she tried to get "too creative" with certain songs sometimes and it often sounds out of melody. But overall ability/skill and sound of voice Amy takes the cake!
Good GOD. I am a huge fan of Amy Winehouse but had not heard this cover. Mind-blowing voice on this absolute classic.
frrrr
I didn't know she was this good
Neither did I. This is a solid and credible Great American Songbook entry. I am impressed. I had no idea.
Wes Clark
Check out her singing Teach Me Tonight on Jools if you haven't already. It's just stupid, stupid good.
confucius12012 my FAVORITE!
She sounds like the baby Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday secretly had
so true 😂😩
That was exactly what I thought.
Haha exactly!
That's messed up but I get what you mean. In the 90s I saw Ella Fitzgerald's husband Ray Brown perform, a great bassist. People dismissed him because they had no idea who he was.
Amy winehouse was every female idyllic jazz singer in one
She took a little from this one and that one and made it her own rest in peace Amy Winehouse you are a genius
She has a far better voice than Adele. Amy's voice is more textured and soulful and it her inflections are excellent.
+DaOrigTruthSeeker had and was, a better voice.
+Austin Bunger In death, an artists's voice remains alive.
+DaOrigTruthSeeker agree I am not an Adele fan just don't like her voice not sure why I love music on other hand Amy she does it for me big time "old soul in young body" from the Amy Movie the voice is out standing RIP Amy XXXXX
She wrote good poetry too
Brett Billings am sorry. I haven't read any. Can you send a link to see this?
brought tears to my eyes.
amy left this world way too soon.
Beautiful improvisation! Only Sarah Vaughan comes readily to mind when considering Winehouse’s incredible vocal range.
Just unbelievable. One of the greatest voices of our generation, no doubt.
So sad the world lose this voice.
The way she says "someone" at 3:59 always gets me.
I don’t think I’ll ever get over this song.
I just wanted to hear this beautiful song and was confronted with multiple artists' versions from which to choose. When I saw Amy Winehouse as one of the performers of this song I was intrigued and selected it. I'm so glad I chose to listen to her version. A truly great jazz rendition that holds up with some of the best ever sung. Thank you, Amy. I truly enjoyed listening.
She stops me in my tracks. Every. Single. Time.
Yelp!!!
The falsetto 💕💕 gifted.
So sad she never found that one. Miss you, Amy.
This beautiful woman could sing all! Blues, jazz , rock, soul, and all! Her voice was unbelievable as in the ranges she sang... What a waste of a beautiful person and talent... the more I listen to her songs, the more I want to cry for such a talent!
I wish she could have stayed in the world of Jazz instead of the world of drugs. I literally only discovered her recently and her tragic story. I'm honestly bawling my eyes out for her and pray that she's able to find some peace in the after life. She deserved better.
With the recent passing of another special person, Robin Williams, - actor, comedian, humanitarian, I ask why is that these fantastically talented geniuses are tormented in the way they were. God gives someone something unique, but why does He allow that person to suffer because of it.
Hopefully they have all gone to a perfect world.
Gez- we should be thankful he died that old cuz he postponed a lot. I mean, he's been in suffer for years ;)
Suffering is part of the creative process. To write a song that eases someone else's pain you have have understand pain on a deep and personal level. Like how could Amy write Back to Black if she had never been in the agony of a broken heart?
It's that pain and torture that unfortunately make them the artists they are.
perhaps it is because creatives don't fit into society's boxes. If society were to become more embracing of differences some suffering could ease and some tragedies be prevented.
Eezee Listen didnt williams kill himself?
A born jazz singer.
Amy Winehouse's voice is a God-given talent. She was in a class by herself and could have surpassed all the singers who sang jazz, rock 'n roll, and that genre. I am 67 and and have become a fan of hers after my children raved about her. The way she presented her songs will be timeless. Her voice was all the musical adjectives. WOW!!!
I miss her, she departed too early. A beautiful soulful voice.
2:58 - 3:32
Such a unique arrangement of the song.
👌 perfection
Love for Amy!!! Bridging decades and a unique master of many genres. Hear her here swinging her face off.
the most beautiful voice in the world
Gorgeous, she really knew how to interpret the standards. #blownaway
I wish Ella would have lived to hear Amy’s version. She really makes this song her own.
Of the younger generation of divas, it's hard to think of anyone more talented, creative, original ,and better than her.
God I love Jazz
bicooo1 I don't like jazz but still love Amy's music. She was so beautiful and talented. So sad she is gone. Rest in Peace Amy.
Mr2 and Amy did to
It was her thing
Una voz de esas que no se olvidan nunca...En la serie de Billie, Ella, Elis, Sara ....
wtf one of the most interesting voice of all time .
Oh, I am still amazed by this woman! That voice!
Where the hell did this come from??? This is fantastic! Such class, such beauty, that swing of old time jazz...This is giving me goosebumps, around 3:40 I thought for a moment I was listening to Dinah Washington, I'm getting shivers. This is beautiful! Thank you for posting.
The Late GREAT Amy Jade Winehouse ❤️❤️❤️ IS The BEST Singer/Songwriter EVER in My book!!! When Amy🥰🤩🥰 Sang these Old Standards She❤️❤️❤️ MADE them NEW Again!!! WOW WOW BRAVO AMY👊👊👐👏👏👏👏👏👏
That voice.... heart wrenching perfection... Miss you Angel Amy.....
What an honor to hear true jazz music again
I see that people are disputing here on the quality of our lovely Amy. Nobody expects every other to love or like her, as there are always some marginal people around for dislike or even hatred. However we have to keep in mind that every classification always ignores the marginality, regardless of it's being highly positive or negative. If their perception is so much down on the floor not to realise Amy's variety of natural voice effects from foggy, smoky and slurry to sharp and crystal clear, as well as her superior tuning even in concerts, their criticism will have no solid base at all for dislike. Neverthless, we should also consider the fact that full perception of her will take some time, and every deep love is initiated first by dislike.
Thinkin your reply is the best one I have ever heard. You're comment says it all, and quite perfectly might I add. Loved it.
+Tanzer Başar The thing is, good or bad, so much about how you feel about it is not the music itself but what you project on to it.
+Bob Wrotenstien That is true..At that time of the comment I had specifically written it as a reply to some others, criticising Amy and her style of making music. On the other hand, if you intend to find I have more than 2000! comments on Amy's footages here on YT, solely praising Amy, her talent, her musical capability as well as blaming people around her, including officials , her family and her permanent doctor for why she is not among us anymore.
+Tanzer Başar By far this the most moving and original phrasing on this song I have heard. All the former big names sang similar arrangements designed to highlight their sweet and clear voices with usually with some strings dropped in for color, but this one makes you believe the story being told. Maybe if I lived back then, clarity is what would do it for me.
amazing! I had no idea she could do this. wow.
She was truly amazing. I miss her so much. XX
She sounds like Billy Holiday in this . Love them both.
Like Billie and Ella had a love child
more like Dinah Washington
She sounds absolutely nothing like Billie Holiday. Stop copying what you see and think for yourself
Amy had it all.........one of finest gifted vocalists, performers, entertainers, composers of the past one hundred years.....Gone way too soon....RIP...
What a talent! What is it about self destructive jazz greats?!? I've often wondered if there is some bizarre mechanism that counterbalances brilliant creativity with pathological destructiveness... like the kid who spends all day building a sandcastle then smashes it to bits.
check out stefan molyneux's video on drug addiction :)
Mental health , addictions, demons hand in hand with money, becoming celebrities… too many things combined and if not truly addressed can turn into a death spiral … nobody wishes to die but if your mental strength is not there you cannot make it.it’s a ruthless industry , to make money you have to tour , smile, give interviews, bare your soul on stage night after night … fight press , rumours and lies and if you don’t have mechanisms to cope with that it triggers the very worst … she wanted to be a mother … while saying that she would laugh and look down like not really believing that would ever happen for her… really heartbreaking…
Wow...all I can say is Wow.....what a talented woman she was. God Bless You Amy Winehouse, and may he keep his angel at Peace.
That is the best version of that song IMHO. She was so talented, I love the interpretation and the arrangements. RIP super talented lady.
Talk about a natural artistic gift! Hot damn! It’s depressing to say, but she had to go on the journey she did to truly achieve that pivotal iconic, heartbreaking form of art.
so AMY. SO ORIGNAL. TO A CLASSIC SONG. amazing. love her.
I really miss Amy....(sniff sniff) (tears drop) unbelievable sadness over this unnecessary loss. She had so much going for her. RIP Amy.
Snap. Snap. Yes Amy, take me there Angel. I will never forget your voice. you sang from your soul. I never hear that these days. I miss you girl. 🍀💓🍀💓 send those vocals to my soul. 💓🍀💓🍀
I just saw the documentary "AMY" on TVO (Ontario), such a brilliant talent: vocalist and songwriter! Honest, raw and authentic. Tragic loss at such a young age :(
Maravilhosa! Amy Winehouse eterna ♥️
I really think that at heart, Miss Amy was a "total jazz artist" at heart! I really do. I mean...damn..listen to her pouring her heart out here..so pretty! Such a shame that this kid is no longer on earth to "please" our listening ears...Heaven is one lucky place right now...Eternal peace to you Amy Winehouse...sincerely so!
jazz girl......................excellent.....her best music ........
R I P...Amy;;;even if your time in this world, was not long, , you are still a great jazz, singer...thank you for your songs....
Her voice is a musical instrument that can change voicings at an instant and is hers only never can be copied what a singer xxx
Rest in Peace Sweet Baby Girl. Thank You for What You Left Behind for Us.
Wow....This woman was at the top of her game...first time listening to her...gone too soon....RIP Amy
Best version, period. Mind blowing.
RIP Amy..Still the best...We miss you...
Extraordinary. Her voice. Oh God ❤
3:49 to the 4:05 THAT is genius. God I love this woman, indeed she was the real deal. Such a shame what happened to her, but damn could she sing.
I've written it before, I'll write it again: HER VOICE IS A TRIP THROUGH TIMES! Great, Amy, r.i.p., we admire you!
Amazing version of this already beautiful song. Amy, you are so missed.
¡ Suprema esta versión de tan gran clásico de Ella...Bravo, Amy !
I love you Amy. Our day will come. I'm ALWAYS thinking of you. I love you Amy💕💕💕💕
WHAT A COMPLETE LOSS TO THIS WORLD.MAGIC VOICE TIMELESS. SHE SHOULD OF BEEN LOOKED AFTER BETTER YOU COULD CRY.
I always thought she was the real deal, you were the real deal Amy. she gave herself to the art and the art gave itself to you. your in rare air but good company.
Jazz... Deus em forma de som
Such a nice cover of Ella , and Amy was always amazing !!! These old photos drive me crazy - Amy's young soul is soooooooooooo legendary !!!
amy's def. an old soul
que voz , que talento! nunca mais teremos uma voz igual, saudades Amy....
Actually, it was 3:31*...wow, what confidence, and force, it's beautiful. She had a Dinah Washington flavour there...it really was extraordinary. I love this cover, I wish she had made an entire album with the old jazz classics, it would have been incredible.
wonderful. beautiful in the deepest sense. Lucky she left this behind. I have someone to find.
