    05/24/2024 Thank you MusicTheoryGuy for this lesson. I have been struggling with this series of Dc. and D.S. al Fine, al Coda instructions. Your active/progressive diagram with the two colour completion actions has cleared all this up for me. I finally made sense of the circle of fifths and fourths and the dichotomy of key references/scale key note references and how to calculate the progression ladder of sharps and flats in ascending order.

    Thankyou Music Theory Guy! Listening to your video about del segno & al coda refreshed and clarified their use for me so much more quickly than having to look up my old music theory books again - and you explained them with much more clarity. Excellent presentation, and again, Thank you.

    Ok, playing Walking in Memphis right now on violin, and it contains 2 Codas with D.S. and D.C. I've been home sick for a bit, and I've missed my last couple of lessons with my instructor, so this video has been instrumental, no pun intended, in helping me figure out the order in which to play this song. Thanks for the clarification!

    “Da Capo” literally means “from the top.” That always reminds me of hearing “take it from the top” during aerobic exercise! (Therefore, that means to repeat the beginning of that portion of the workout!)
    As for “Dal Segno,” I think “Il Segno” is supposed to be a combination of the “repeat the previous measure” symbol and the letter “S” which probably stands for “Segno.”

    This was wonderful! Thank you so kindly! I'm a "music teacher" with not college education. I've studied music on my own for years and have been teaching guitar and piano for years, but in a fairly unconventional way. Lots of memorization of shapes and sounds and feelings. I decided it was time to really focus on teaching kids how to read music and sharpen my abilities as well. One kid had a teacher who left and she was given to me. She already had sheet music, which was easy enough for me to understand...but when it came to the Coda and she was like...what do I do here? I was like umm...lets listen to the real song and see what they do! I discovered that I needed to learn this new fact and found lots of confusing info. This made it perfectly clear and concise and I thank you, like and subscribe! Can't wait to learn more so I can teach better! Thank you!

    Your lesson is really well done. I just want to clarify that the "gn" sound in "del segno", is not supposed to be pronounced like "g" and "n" separately but like a single sound that maybe doesn't exist in English and it is similar to the "ñ" sound in the Spanish word "señor" (e.g.). I know it for sure because I am Italian.

    • @musictheoryguy
      @musictheoryguy  9 лет назад +9

      Desiree1176 Oh dear! This isn't the first time I've been advised/laughed-at/told-off/etc. when it comes to pronunciation of Italian terms. I clearly need some help with these! Thanks for letting me know but I'm glad to hear, despite my poor attempt at Italian, you still enjoyed the lesson. Best wishes.

    • @Desiree1176
      @Desiree1176 9 лет назад +4

      musictheoryguy All your lessons are so accurate in every detail, so I thought they would be even better if you improved your pronunciation of some Italian terms. I know it's difficult to pronounce "segno" properly for a native English speaker, but I think you can improve listening how this word is pronounced by an Italian speaker: it.forvo.com/word/segno/#it. It's not so important but it's always nice to learn new things, isn't it? :-)
