  • Hello everyone! This is the start of a new series that will cover me building a new Knex ball machine that will be on display at Blocks to Bricks. In these videos I'll cover why I build things, how I come up with the design, and what I do to fix the various problems that arise.
    In this first episode, we first get a look at the basic plan for the machine and get to building (and finishing) the lift.
    I hope you enjoy!

    It actually looked really cool when the balls went down the helix

      Indeed, that's the first thing I had to do right after the tubing went on.

    Why did you go from red rod based ball machines to a green rod based ball machines

    • @borisvbrknex
      @borisvbrknex 5 лет назад

      I'd say because they look 10 times better

    • @Shadowman39
      @Shadowman39  5 лет назад

      My machines are still technically red rod-based, it's just that they get covered in green rod paneling. The support structures usually stay as red rods.

    I have the same gear ratio and same motor but my lift doesn't run as fast. I have tried 2 motors and different power supplies. must be friction or something else. Any ideas?

    • @Shadowman39
      @Shadowman39  Год назад +1

      Either there's more friction or the motors are different speeds than mine. I haven't measured my motor speeds so there's no way to tell for sure.

    I noticed that the 2 strands of tubing on the helix are at different depths compared to your instructables from a few years before. Is this more reliable?

    • @Shadowman39
      @Shadowman39  2 года назад +1

      Yes, I made this newer version where the strands act as a track instead of just stacking them. The newer one still has issues if it's made too fast, so I want to make a version 3 someday.

    Shadowman39 where do you get all your pieces from?

    • @Shadowman39
      @Shadowman39  2 года назад

      Most of them came from eBay as used lots, I haven't bought any for some time now.

      Hey shadowman39 what are the odds you could do instructions on how to build this inverted helix lift at this height?

    Holy shit how many pieces do you have? I'm trying to do an inventory of mine and I'm nowhere near that collection.

    • @Shadowman39
      @Shadowman39  2 года назад

      It's about 75k pieces right now, I did an inventory at the beginning of the year.

      @@Shadowman39 I'm also curious. How do you build stuff for museums? Do you just ask them or do they contact you? I may want to build something for some place where I live but don't know what that would look like.

      @@JustaHappyPotato They contact me, there aren't much local museums around where I live so I never attempted to contact any. You could always try it though.
