Last year, I was given a non emergency ambulance ride from Downey, Ca to L A Kaiser Sunset Hospital for an exploratory cardiac angiogram. The procedure discovered a 90% blockage in the artery known as the “widow maker”. The doctor placed a stent in the artery and needless to say, saved my life. This song was played on the radio during my ambulance ride. Every time I hear this song since then , it reminds me of the experience.
I have been in similar situatation brother as first when my left leg began to swallen and it was treated first as an infection in skin and finally I didn't even could walk I phoned an ambulance and in fact I had severe blood block in my artery. I knew the situation was dangerous, but I calmed myself by listening Kygo, this Norwegian artist while waiting and it all came out well.. With a voice like that, and Chaka Khan singing harmony and background vocals, a beat you can dance to and not want the song to end, this song could not lose. Love Steve Winwood!
He started with Spencer Davis at 14 but their first record was released when he was 16. Both I'm a Man and Gimme Some Lovin' were written and recorded when he was 18. The latter was conceived, written, rehearsed, and a rough demo made by the band in about 45 minutes.
This is Steve Winwood in the 80's. Disco had died, and the world was ready for some soulful rock and soul. Not only is Chaka Khan on this video, but did you notice who is playing guitar? That is Niles Rogers from the group Chic ("Le Freak"), and who also did "Get Lucky" with Daft Punk just a few years ago! Steve played organ on Voodoo Child (Live version) with Jimi Hendrix, and has played with all the greats. He was known as someone who loved to jam. He is The Man!

@@fredackrill, Thanks for offering that up ! Very cool song. It bookends well with my first listen to Steve, when I was 13. Been a big fan ever since - had 4 albums of Traffic in my collection during high school. Finally had a chance to see his live show in 2017 - so impressive !
I love this collaboration between Steve and Chaka! Don’t we all feel about life and love and soul like this song sounds?! I hope we’ve all been blessed to have felt like that at some time or another.
Legend has it that Chaka’s recordlabel didn’t want Chaka to be credited as a duet, because she had a solo record coming out a little later. They were afraid of mixed messages in the marketing of Chaka. Consider Steve Winwoods Roll with it...
That was an awful marketing team. Chaka co-wrote Addicted to Love with Robert Palmer as a duet and Warner Brothers her record label took her vocals out for the same reasons. Dumb move.
Steve Winwood has been around since the '60s. It's amazing how he can change with the times. This song is VERY '80's and more poppy than his classic music from the old days. Low Sparks of High Heeled Boys and Dear Mr. Fantasy are fantastic songs from when he was in the band Traffic. Must listen to both. I always thought he was just a piano player, but I watched a video recently of him with Eric Clapton, and Winwood was jamming on the guitar. Quite impressive. This guy is definitely a phenomenal talent. He was like 16 when he sang for the Spencer Davis group.
Steve Winwood is what you might call a "quiet superstar", by which I mean he wrote his first hit song when he was seventeen (I think), has played with and written for countless louder superstars, and he's still touring: stevewinwood.com/events. He's 72.
This is one of my go-tos when I need an emotional pick up. It's just impossible to sit still when listening to Steve Winwood. That bass line is courtesy of Philippe Saisse, playing a synth-bass, and it DEMANDS that you move, and pulls you onto the dance floor. "Back in the High Life" is a different kind of song. It's very emotional and introspective.

When Chaka goes off, she brought the “higher love”!
Hendrix said he was only nervous by a few... Stevie was one. Ty for this I hope everyone find this jam and has a beautiful day
Another award winner yes that is Chaka K they won a Grammy award for this album 😍😍😍❤️💙💙💙
what a wonderful reaction to such a wonderful song!
If you want Winwoods greatest vocals check out “had to cry today” Blind Faith, Spencer Davis group “gimmie some lovin” and Traffic “dear Mr fantasy”.
Classic Winwood from 1966. GIMME SOME LOVIN' from the guy who co-wrote it! ruclips.net/video/Iv6Q-v-94Lo/видео.html
I love their cover of Buddy Holly's "Well Alright" on Blind Faith.
Stevie Winwood-super talented, super gorgeous, love him
I love this collaboration between Steve and Chaka! Don’t we all feel about life and love and soul like this song sounds?! I hope we’ve all been blessed to have felt like that at some time or another.
Idk how anyone could be in a bad mood listening to a song like this. 80s music is the greatest
Dumb move.
steve winwood,,,,chaka khan,,,,ahhhhhhh yes the good ole days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes it is Chaka Khan
And the amazing Nile Rogers of guitar
Stevie has had a wonderful life making many happy with his music.
One of my favorite pop songs of all time. 👍🏻
Steve Winwood is what you might call a "quiet superstar", by which I mean he wrote his first hit song when he was seventeen (I think), has played with and written for countless louder superstars, and he's still touring: stevewinwood.com/events. He's 72.
I think he was more like 15. He was first hired at age 12, yes 12, to play Hammond organ for the biggest names in US blues when they toured the UK.
Steve Winwood…the complete musical package
Now you see why my late daddy used to refer to him as "my boy Stevie Winwood". You feel Stevie's music!!
Simply one of the best songs to come out of the 1980s.
He's the original "Blue-eyed Soul Singer"!
Time to go seek out the Rightreous Brothers James, years before the Giant Steve Winwood.
@@toddstevens13 I knew that would come up, they are not that far apart in the year they started. Good catch but I still prefer Steve!
"I COULD LIGHT THE NIGHT UP WITH MY SOUL ON FIRE....I COULD MAKE THE SUN SHINE FROM PURE DESIRE"....BEST LINE EVER !! :)
This album brings me back to much simpler happy times as a kid, this whole album was uplifting
Steve is FANTASTIC!!
Apples to Oranges
Steve is a much better person!
Steve Winwood can sing, dance, play instruments and is a great artist....
MS. Chaka is a class act ...period! Her back up vocals made the song for me!
Steve Winwood is an absolute talent. Freakin love his music.
Dude, your wall is looking good.
LOVED your face when you realized that was Chaka Kahn! Love your videos!
It's not even fair.
I get that. He's that good.
❤
This song, Roll With It, The Finer Things, Valerie....all played like crazy in the late 80s. Great stuff.
On his album Arc of the Diver he played all the instruments. Yes, he is that good!
What Instruments? The Keyboard, the drum Machine and the Rest of the Computer sounds?
wow,,,this song is 33 years old !!!!!!!!!!,,,,chaka khan on background vocals!!!!!!!!!!!! the lakers were NBA CHAMPS back then in 1987 ,just like this past year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1,,,,,,,,,,steve winwood is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This entire album "Arc Of The Diver" is phenomenal, every track played by Steve Winwood. Excellent choice sir.
"Arc of the Diver" was the album before this one.
