bro. what a simple method u take... i loved it too.... thanks.....
use 2 tissue papers soaked in wax instead of kerosene for fuel...also no need of aluminium foil container, attatch the tissue paper to the wire...kerosene did not work for me, it creates lot of black soot which made it heavier....

Use Thin kite paper for best result. Ask for Craft paper in your local stationary store. Thickness about 100 gsm.

Once I had done using newspaper...kind of worked ..... but some have told it doesn't work....I suggest you to use paper thinner than newspaper.

wax might not work because it burns very small. as you saw in the video the flame has to be large enough about 6-8 inch

Measurements are not very critical. The shape is important(sharp at the top). height of about 40cm should do good.

Pretty scummy of you to use plastic straws for this. What's wrong with balsa wood? You're dumped plastic randomly around, don't fucking do this.
They look really pretty, but the problem comes when they land on a building or on a field of crops and they burn them to the ground, ruining somebody's livelihood & hurting any people &/or animals in the vicinity. Even if the fire goes out before burning anything down, the wire ends up in silage for feeding horses & cattle, causing huge vet bills at best, and a painful death at worst.
Alternative models use plastic in place of the metal wire - the problems caused by plastic littering are well documented. Particularly (but not exclusively) for aquatic life.
Please, don't do this.
Do you think using wooden skewers will be alright, we are putting lanterns out for Vesak and I never thought about the metal harming. Is wood a good substitute?

A lot of people don't realise the harm, so thank you for taking the trouble to think about this.
I would suggest wood is less awful than metal or plastic as far as getting into rivers, streams or cattle feed is concerned, although there is still the issue of the lantern coming down whilst still hot & setting fire to something (I don't know if you're in the UK, but it's been tinder dry round here, farmers' fields would be like a tinderbox). It's the last thing emergency services need to be dealing with at the best of times, but especially now.
