Yes. He knew. He was giving a word and asked God why he was showing him these things and not waiting until closer to the time of them happening. God didn't answer then. But later on He asked God directly where he would be when all the good things would be coming to pass in the world..cures for diseases etc. He asked where he would be especially concerning the care of his children...then he stopped, looked shocked and grieved!
